At some stage we need to rip the band aid off. We are one injury away from losing all balance in the back 6 if we are reliant on Hayes.

He is just going at the moment after starting the year in good form. Not down but not dominating like he was projecting to do.

Still, I agree that at 20/21, he could look elsewhere for opportunities

Agree on his form - I thought he’d earned a spot in the ones earlier in the year, but right now that spot is Lav’s. He’s earned it.

But yeah, if you’re behind four or five in year 3, does some extra money and a chance at AFL level entice? I’d suggest it very well could

I'm not only worried about something that might happen if something else happens, I'm also concerned about the consequences if that something were to happen and what the ramifications of those consequences might be.

This concerns me deeply. Now I'm worrying about what the consequences of those ramifications might be.

I’m not on either side of the ‘trade Parish’ argument - but, he is one that if we decided to trade, we could actually get something fairly decent back.
Interesting you say that because Tom Morris (?) seems to think Bobby Hill is gettable - chasing a better payday next year from Collingwood more likely, but still.

Also, Rowan Marshall?

The bobby hill ‘gettable’ idea has been debunked.

Do you trade Parish straight up for Hill? I know it’s a 0.001% shot, but if Collingwood offer do you accept?

If they're willing and that's the trade, yes, I think so.
Edit: However, I'm exhausting the Stengle / Ainsworth options first.

The problem for me would be that we'd be faced with recouping the clearance deficit we've found ourselves in without Parish, if we traded Parish.

Is Ainsworth really that good? Doesn’t hit the score board enough for my liking
Hes always played far higher as a hit up half forward but also gone to the wing a fair bit recently, which was underatandable with Rankine around, but the last 2 years he hasnt been there, however theyve also had a lacking in quality wingers

But it is the concern, can he be a deeper/crumbing goal kicking small forward. Or can Gresham

We’re not after Tyson Stengle, put that to bed

Yeah the small forwards is interesting. It's a desperate needs.

1) Stengle, the player, is the pick of the lot. What he is, is exactly what we need. I find myself nervous though of paying him overs for a large quantity of years when he is (justifiably so) being forthright in saying he will basically accept the most $$. It's a refreshing attitude, but it also doesn't inspire confidence that he will necessarily put his best foot forward for the 5-6 years of the contract. We like contract-year Stringer? 5 years of non-contract year Stengle at big money is a big risk.

2) Ainsworth - I love the approach of targeting free agents. We're big enough and attractive enough to have success in this area. And with Tasmania coming in, it's important that we take our high picks, so being able to bring in talent free of this cost is important. But I'm not sure he's exactly what we need. He does feel like another Gresham. A good 'high half forward', but not a notorious goal kicker.

The one I want is Kako. Everything I've seen is exactly what I want in a small forward. Without being a draft guru, I'd be perfectly comfortable spending our 1st pick on him, assuming it's in the teens somewhere.

We would literally be the one throwing the biggest offer at him.

Geelong is a boring shithole tbh. The only people who find it appealing are old folks with nothing better to do. Any newly turned 25 yr old would be crazy to give up 200k+ to stay there.

It was already posted in here that Geelong have offered him $700 a year by 4 years.

You’d assume we could and should offer 850 x 5 to get him out
But ralphy seems to think we’re not a suitor which is strange.

No idea what saints are offering

If Jon Ralph thinks we aren't, it's a good indication that we are.
