So much upside in Hotton, I know he's coming off an ACL but I'd be happy to grab him.

The slider who Matthew Lloyd believes could be the best player in the draft

Matthew Lloyd believes one draft slider could land up being the best player out of this year’s crop.
Sandringham Dragons’ mid-forward Taj Hotton tore his ACL earlier in the year, which is expected to see him slide down the order.

But Lloyd says Hotton, who he coaches at Haileybury, could be the best player out of this year’s draft.

“One to watch is Taj Hotton,” Lloyd said on Wide World of Sports.
“He is from Haileybury and did his ACL mid-season, but I think he’s a top five draft pick.
“Whoever selects him could may well get the best player in the draft.”

surprise ****ing surprise someone matthew lloyd coaches could be the best player
just like that slug armstrong is the greatest forward because matthew lloyd coaches him
**** off lloyd you ********er

Lloyd's judgement has been pretty lousy in the past. In 2016 he said Hardwick should be fired and we needed to rebuild and trade out players as the team was trash and miles off a flag. He's also highly biased with kids he's affiliated with previously declaring the King Brothers and Joe Daniher would be the best players in the comp. He also said Luke Davies Uniacke is the best player he'd ever seen in U18's. LDU is 7 years in now and 1st year he's done anything and even then probably just scrapes in the best 100 players league wide. He's got a vested interest in talking up his players as it gives Haileybury more prestige the more players are drafted higher up. Lefau's year was level pegging with Max King and 1 was a former pick 4 and the other a foreign born supplementary pick. Lloyd's opinions hold little value.

True he also pumps up FOS in the audio. I don't think he going to be the best player as Lloyd has stated but I will say most punters have Hotton as a top 10 if he hadn't done his ACL. I've seen enough to think he is going to be a gun.

Some stuff to like, but I hate how up-and-under his kicking generally is.

Just also wondering about his running action. Very long strides with some heal striking there I think, and it is possible this has led to his ACL problem. In the picture captured below he is turning/decelerating but that doesn't look a great position to put your leg in when running at speed. It is a bit hard to tell from the footage, other times he seems to strike the ground in a safe enough position under his body. The worry is definitely that ACL and we can see from the bandaging on his knee here the ACL is clearly not the first issue he has had. Very slippery looking player so if he was sound he would be a great prospect. A bit like Peter Matera?

This was some of the footage I watched of him earlier this week and I just don't see it in him
Sure he has some nice movement, but his disposal is attrocious
Grubber kick, lucky to go 5 meters to a teammate
Long kick to a contest
Takes an eternity then kicks out wide to an open player but in a way that gives his opponent the ability to contest it
Kicks to a 2 on 1, turnover
Good kick marked by a team mate on the wing
Nice interception, then kicks inside 50 but it ends up being a grubber along the ground straight to an opponent
Shows some nice evasiveness, then handpasses 2 meters to an opponent (while being tackled/under pressure, but still)
Kicking for goal about 25 out, behind

I couldn't even finish the video before putting a line through his name

Hotton is one of the few players in the draft with electric pace. Combine it with his agility, ball-winning ability, leap, hands, goal-kicking nous, creativity and slipperiness. He's a must-have for me.
Yep. 100% with you there.
Very smooth mover and very elusive.
