What a article. Shai Bolton is akin to a Rolls Royce or Angus Filet Mignon. Mansell is like a dented up ford escort on blocks surrounded by overgrown weeds out the front of a housing commission place and the gristle stuck between the teeth of a meth head after eating a 4 n 20 pie.

With Clarke, Alger, Hotton and Steely Green, hell even porkie MRJ on our list, if Mansell is still best 22 towards latter part of 2025 we're even sh1tter than I thought. 2024 worst season in history, Yze needs to move on from list cloggers like Mansell, Dow and McIntosh ASAP or he can vacate the seat for our next premiership coach.

You’re wrong on Mansell. His overall season was good. His last 11 games were very good. 14 goals. 7 games exceeding 10 x ratings points which is an excellent rating for a small forward.

He’s following a very similar trajectory to players like Brent Daniels and Switzkowski who are both excellent small pressure forwards.

Why our supporters continue to think players with 30-games are at their peak is beyond me. Majority of players really find their feet at AFL level and get somewhere near their peak at 50-60 games, and Mansell is at 53-games now.

There were 92 x ‘small-mid forwards’ to play 10+ games in 2024. Mansell was ranked 22nd overall.

He was 24th for tackles. 22nd for pressure acts. 40th for goal average. 27th for I50’s. 10th for tackles I50.

Mansell is going to prove everyone wrong and all signs point to him turning into an excellent player.

Judge our players at 50+ games, not 10-30.

Hopper has never been a star. Good player at his best? Star. Nope. Let's not throw that around casually.

Also, he last played his best football in 2021. Well over 3 years ago now. A year before we even traded for him. We traded for a broken down, average on field version of him and that's what we've gotten for 2 years.
Time to move on. Yeah, hindsight says we shouldn't have traded for Hopper, but hindsight also says that GWS gave us Taranto too cheap.

Hopper will be handy for protection while we're developing our young mids. And who knows, Serpell might even be able to get him fit again?

That's the old game plan.

We're going to the left pocket next year. Fool everyone.

Really hope Nigel becomes more of a weapon…he ain’t Shai but he can stilll cause headaches….

And I liked it when he smashed Ginnivan
That’s the thing with Mansell
It’s cliche but goals are almost a bonus and not his primary role but the fact that he is becoming increasingly dangerous is an excellent sign and credit to his desire to improve and development

He’s a defensive medium forward who can shut down oppo marking threats if he has a cohesive forward line around him

His best game for the club was I think 2 or 3 seasons ago when he absolutely destroyed Tom Stewart who was at the peak of his powers but Mansell held him to essentially zero impact on the game

One aspect of his game that also tends to be overlooked is when he pushed up onto the wing to assist with the outside midfield rotations

He’s not the guy who sits goalside of the high balls hoping for a cheap goal to pad his stats (hello Cumbo) he’s the one ensuring that his man isn’t the one who becomes the easy release option for a quick switch

I agree that Mansell will never reach the heights of Bolton as a player. But 21 goals from 21 games in a wooden spoon team is a bloody good effort. With another year of improvement there’s no reason he can’t become a 30+ goal per season player.

Add in elite forward pressure and the fact he’s hard as a cat’s head and we’ve got a bloody good player that didn’t seem likely 12-months ago.

Put Mansell into our 2017-2020 teams and he probably kicks 40. If we have a half-functional forward line this year aka Lynch plays a decent amount he’ll improve on last year too. He’ll never be a bolton but for someone we paid nothing for I think he does ok, and sounds like he sets a good standard too

I liked reading that we have stripped everything back and are starting from scratch when it comes to building up the players fitness base. It's a marathon not a sprint and we don't need the players cherry ripe in early December. Build them up slowly and with purpose, so that they build into peak fitness during the season proper, which hopefully means we're less likely to be impacted by injuries like we were this year.

This article reminds me of those times where my mother used to say something like "we already have Oreos at home" and it turns out to be Coles brand chocolate biscuits. You know, it's just not the same.

Sorry to say, but Mansell is Coles brand Bolton. Just not the same.

Arnott’s Delta Cream biscuits are Aussie-made and loved sweet biscuits designed to be dunked. A treasured favourite since 1926, these classic cream-filled biscuits have a chocolate twist, with two crunchy cocoa biscuits sandwiched with a generous layer of scrumptious cream.

Better than Oreos!

I agree. He might be handy. Bigger body for kids etc. I'm just disagreeing with calling him a star when fit. That is delusional

I've never really liked Oreos
Think they are vastly overrated.
I would never buy them but the Mrs does on occasion but when she does it’s the type of biscuit that I will just smash out an entire packet without even really realising it in one sitting

Oreo's are essentially toe Jam from a meth head sandwiched between two blackened pieces of cardboard ...they are a universally sh!t excuse for a biscuit

Easily the most over-hyped biscuit in the world. I remember being a kid when they first became somewhat readily available and having my first one

Just horrific and have been every time I’ve tried since

America in general have terrible chocolate/biscuits. Unless they find a way to put peanut butter in it they have no idea what they’re doing

Harry hindsight in full view right here. We did what we did and have to work with it. Cannot change the past, if only we’d taken Buddy, is that right?
Daniel Dickhead in full view right here.

I was making an observation.

No point dreaming about things that weren’t possible. Bowes wanted to go to Geelong.

If we didn’t get TT and Hopper we would’ve had to draft in multiple midfielders instead.

Take me through the list of big bodied mids taken that we had access to which would be valuable to us right now?

We don’t have to think back far to remember how desperate posters on BF were for Hobbs … how’s he looking? Hobbs or TT? Or Allan went late teens to Pies … has played a couple of games but has question marks.

Based on who was available to us you’d do the TT for 12 and 19 again every day of the week.

And it was Hopper, Steely Green and Kaleb Smith for 31 and 8. So if one of Smith or Green become a quality senior regular the deal isn’t a worry, even if Hopper doesn’t regain full fitness.

Hopper also wanted to go to Geelong, until he didn't.
