News Charlie Gardiner appointed as Collingwood's new head of football

Happy with the appointment. Very intelligent functioning human is Charlie, and seems to have done a fair bit in his time in footy, from playing the game, to coaching in the Swans academy to the role of GM of footy with them, to their legal counsel. He has ticked off a few boxes there, and he's only 41, whilst also having a Bachelor of Law and being a senior associate at a law firm previously to the Swans.
Highly regarded within the AFL, so look forward to what he brings to our great club. Welcome aboard Charlie....

Laws :)

Optimistic about this appointment - but mainly because of the positive assessments I’m reading on here.

But more seriously, it’s more and more apparent that we were treading water last year with Wright’s sabbatical, and chose to move people around to cover him.

Now that he, and others, have gone we’ve been filling positions and making changes throughout as per the announcements this week about both Gardiner and other new people in development roles.

While I have issues with Craig Kelly - is the club now forming in the way he wants, with (reputedly) his most active opponent gone (in Wright)?

Interesting times, but rather than mayhem and chaos in the club administration, as some of our more beloved journos would have it, we could be evolving into a more innovative and stable administration.

Or I could just be deluded, as I often am about Collingwood.

Quietly relieved we didn't opt to go for Justin Reid from Adelaide.
There was never any credible reason to believe we were looking at him when we were actually in the process of talking to candidates - Seems like it was between Gardiner and Bell.

The talk of it being Reid was seemingly only an excuse to pot the club for being a boys club, when it never actually happened, and no footy department changes have actually been any cause for alarm at all.

I'm just delighted that we've gone with an Executive General Manager of Football rather than a Head of Football - should see some real dividends. Hopefully he can prove himself and be promoted to Executive Director of Football.

More importantly, his kids have normal names - Jonno, Ted and Chloe.
Ted is a bit suspicious. Concerned that he may be stuck in the 1930s. Not sure I'm keen on seeing a shift to a no handball kick it long game plan. But it will be good to see us belting blokes in the head again.

I'm scared his Geelong Grammar education will see him push us towards rowing.

I think this is a joke that’s gone over my head.

We can always blame Sydney for the title..

'In 2019 Gardiner joined the Sydney Swans as Executive General Manager of Football.'

Had to look up physiognomy. The zoom calls indeed:

If you are anywhere near being into golf, Olive and Mabel’s owner has an awesome podcast called The Chipping Forecast. Very clever. The dogs interrupt it from time to time
