Geez, tough draw - very few easy games in our first ten matches. Again.
And of course no double-ups against any of Tigers, Weagles or Kangas. Again.
We’re gonna have to win the Flag the hard way. Again.

Seems pretty straight forward. DeGoey there as patient and Wade there as student, for the future benefit of the whole squad.

Yes….but it wasn’t fair that we had the shortest off-season AND were scheduled to play three matches before most other teams had played two.
It really put us on the back foot and I have little doubt that the extra effort needed to lift out win-loss back into positive territory from such a bad...
I hope we put in a better performance than we did in corresponding match this season, when we were horribly uncompetitive.

Which players will be cursed with the popular chorus “His pre-season form has been exceptional. He’s in for a break-out year.”?
Last year it was Fin and Ash!

We are all-in on a shot at the 2025 Premiership but if Moore cops a significant injury, we are stuffed.
I’m not sure how we make it fit but we absolutely must recruit the best available delisted experienced key defender over the summer.

Last chance saloon for Reef but in his favour, defence is far more structured and requires less natural footy instinct than midfield and (especially) up forward, which was clearly a deficiency for Reef.
He has the physical attributes but whether or not Reef has the same manic, fearless...
Anyone else still find it bizarre that the Saints (a) cut Membrey in the first place and (b) didn’t even attempt to get something for him in return?
It’s not as though the Saints are over-endowed with reliable medium/tall forwards.
At face value it looks like a gift for us but anything that...
And stop playing him on a wing! At both VFL and AFL level, Allan needs to be played in the centre square. Its his best position and we need to fast-track his development there so that he's a real chance to take over once the likes of Pendles, Mitchell and Sidey sail off into retirement.
Yes, he’s no model citizen. We’ve had a few of those over the years who have matured and eventually excelled for us.
I watched a lot of Fahey’s junior footy in Canberra (he played for Queanbeyan). He completely dominated - miles better than everyone else in his age group - and was playing Mens...
Yes, we need to stop recruiting these conscientious, hard-working but oh-so-vanilla (and slow) types, like Bianco, Cal Brown and Macrae.
More mongrel and X-factor please, even if they’re a bit rough around the edges.
One such potential diamond in the rough, who is presently uncontracted and...
My wife’s family are Carlton supporters (she’s a Pies convert), so I have had the misfortune of watching more Carlton games than I’d like. So I’ve seen a bit of Carroll this year and he showed a lot more than I’ve ever seen from Macrae across his ~20 games for us. And I reckon Carroll offers...
To my eye, Carroll is the much more composed and impactful player. I have little doubt another team with take a punt on him.
Fin couldn’t even get a spot in our side when we were on our knees with about 15 players on the injury list. Our coaches have shown that they have no faith in him...
Clearly Carroll is no superstar but his highlights are far better than those of a certain first round pick of ours who’s about to enter his fifth season. As midfield depth I would pick Carroll over Fin every day of the week.

“excellent on both sides of his body” might be overstating it a smidge. He might kick it well at training and even the VFL but so far at AFL level, Fin has tended to rush his disposals in a bit of a panic. Carroll looks much more composed, IMO.

Did you watch the video highlights, or just look at stats? If you watched it, I cannot see how you could reach that assessment.

Carroll from Carlton looks a genuine prospect. Clean hands, nice left foot, solid mark and strong tackler. Particularly noticeable is the way he naturally raises his arms and the ball above the height of would-be tackles, so that he almost always manages to get a handball away under pressure...
Collingwood over the next five years?
2025 Premiers, of course!
2026 Lose in Prelim Final
2027 Lose in Elim Final
2028 14th
2029 19th

Hopefully 2025 will be like 2010, when old players like O’Bree, Lockyer, Medhurst, Fraser & Anthony were in the side at the start of the season but had been pushed out by younger players by the time we got to Finals.

Yep, spot on! I particularly share your excitement about the return of Boyd. I thought he was great first time around and now has more experience from a different program. He’ll add plenty. I’m not too fussed to lose Bolton, provided we keep Leppa and Fly together.
Yeah, Ned, is a bit of a...
Damian Barrett is a knob. Trying to make a story out of little in terms of our off-field changes but giving no credit at all for our trade success. He says that Port's loss of Houston was the worst trade in history. So, Damo, if its that terrible a deal for Port, wouldn't it be reasonable to...
