True. I was talking about 12&14 vs GWS 15&16. Of course it would have been better if we kept pick 3 rather than splitting. We are less likely to make a mistake with pick 3. We all know our recent track record with these mid first round picks.
Wasn’t it reported in the media (also by Daniel’s, I think) that we rejected Carlton’s initial offer of 12&14 for pick 3 and we only accepted after they included Owies in the deal.
Anyway, the bigger problem is with sending pick 14 to Richmond for an OCC Baker and nothing else. Paid too much...
Matt Clarke did amazingly well ...... for Richmond.
Got them way way overs for an OCC Baker. Made a late play for Bolton which spooked Fremantle into sending 10, 11 and 18 to Richmond. Should have place reserved already in Richmond's recruiting hall of fame.
I am not talking about problems of getting players in. These players are NOT in that age bracket so these changes do not address any issues solves any problems we have in the 23-27 age bracket.
From the AFL website
The 23-27 age backet [sic] is another hole in the Eagles' list that they are keen to address, with Baker, Owies and free agent Jack Graham all helping in that regard
Who Writes this stuff? None of them will be in that age bracket (unless you count 27/28 year olds as well)...
But Obeanie1 where are these blend of picks coming from?
The picks we get (if we get them) in Barrass trade will go for Warner. You propose giving our F2 and F3 back to Hawthorn for the Barrass trade and you also want to trade our F1 to Richmond for 10 and 18 this year. That’s 2025 R1, R2 and...
The highest he ever averaged was 20.3 disposals a game in 2021 (career average is 18.3). So highly unlikely that he will get 25-30 consistently. Will be 27 in January 2025 as well. People usually get worse not better at most things as they age.
Figured out what happened. Pike wanted to teach the recruiters the power stance. Somehow he got his wires mixed and taught them the empower stance instead.
Explains why we end up giving far more when we clearly had the upper hand (Baker OOC, superior pick).
The recruiting team (Matt Clarke in particular) should have learned the power stance from Pike before the trade period. They wouldn’t have blinked in the Baker trade then.
Let me get this straight. We trade our own F1 to Richmond for picks 10 and 18 this year but keep Haw F1 and Carlton F1 (highly unlikely to get both anyway) to trade for Warner this tme next year. So in 2025 we get Warner but we have no R1, no R2 and no R3 left to draft anybody. Isn't this correct?
Are you suggesting trading our own F1 (which most definitely will be a top 5 pick) to Richmond for picks 10 and 18 this year? That's two top 3-5 picks out the door in 2 years. Haven't Richmond got enough from us already? If we are trading any F1 out then it should be either Haw F1 or Carlton F1...
