carlton wont make a play for harley, not for a while at least. no currency in 25, and 26 we got a possible top 3/5 FS coming through
Straight swap for Patrick Cripps and we'll probably chuck in our first for the privilege, just so we can bring the boy home...

Probably pay 80% of Harley's salary too.

Oh the situation is not good.
We had a slim and slender chance to get out list in decent shape before Tasmania comes in.
In order to do that we needs to nail the following drafts, so how are we tracking ?

Draft 2022: Not looking that promising.
Ginbey ok, Hewett injury woes, Barnett looks a dud for now, Burgiel looks a injury prone player, Long looks good and a great pick up.

Draft 2023: HR9 outstanding, say no more. The other Reid looks promising.
Hall to early to tell, Johnston looks ok.

Draft 2024: Fu(ed the trade period going to need an excellent draft to redeem our trade mistakes.

Draft 2025: Let’s see what picks we can pick up from the Tommy trade.
Next years draft is vital to us having any chance of being competitive in the mid future ( 4-6 years ).

Fair to say that the mismanagement of this years trade period, has set us back in our list rebuild, at a time when we could least afford it.

Feeling pretty flat this morning after learning that Matt Clarke has shoved a pineapple up the Clubs arse.

Hopefully the Club will include a couple of tubes of Anasol in its give aways in the 2025 Membership Packs…… we are going to need it.

Yep we should be very upset with our club and the people who made these decisions. No point being upset with the players, they are just pawns.
Clarke and Pyke have basically committed the cardinal sin of throwing away your draft picks on short term improvement.
Im my opinion it was vital to get a pick 3 midfielder to grow with Harley and then bring in Warner next year.

Now we have to hope who we get at Pick 12 is something out of the box. We both know this is possible as all drafts can be a bit of a lottery. Lets hope we nail pick 12????

Still bloody angry about this though.

Can't ****ing believe the shit that was just dribbling out of Pyke's mouth on SEN.

He said we had to do this deal because they made a commitment to Baker to get him here.

That was the priority, thats why the deal happened. Forget the future of the club, forget rebuilding after lean draft years, forget doing a trade in the club's interest, they made an idiotic commitment to a guy who didn't finish top 3 in the B&F at the wooden spoon club last year and that's why we had to do this deal.

Seriously.

Should we just rename the club the West Coast Liam Bakers since he's apparently the most important thing in Don Pyke's peabrained mind?

4D chess move by Hawthorne there, we have to admit. They trade a shite first rounder for a future first and second.
Now they have us over the barrel and the pressure is back on us.
Otherwise if the trade is cancelled we end the trade period having lost 3, for 12, Baker and Owies who wasn't needed in the first place

Welcome to the wet sheets club mate. Got you on board eventually.

Baker in the midfield will make Reid, Hewitt and Kelly better players - the best I can think of is the mix that Stenglein added in the 2005/6 team. Stenglein in his own right was an average accumulator but did a better job of defensive structure than anybody. Mini is probably looking at blokes who know the game plan and can help to implement it.

I like this traed more than most - draft picks are over rated.

Carlton traded more or less entirely out of next year's draft for a 9 pick upgrade. They are about the least well placed team to make a play for Harley.

Every Victorian team will make a play for Harley whether they have the currency or not.

I get why Pyke led every answer with ‘we needed to honour our commitment to Baker’ - ie, he wants to turn the pressure up on Hawthorn, but it still grates. He’s talking like Baker is the prized FA of the trade period.

Sounds like we made a promise to Baker at a pretty dark moment during our 2024 season and we are choosing to put that ahead of what a clinical strategy would be.

The only upside in that interview is Pyke talking about getting back in to the ‘top ten or twenty’, but my confidence in that is gone.

We’re looking totally out of our depth here.

Baker is not a midfielder and comparing him to Stenglein is (dare I say it) copium.

He’s a tiny little HBF or HFF who sometimes finds himself in the midfield.

Kelly and Baker taking turns turning the ball over will be a thing of beauty.🤩

Baker will be too "clever" for our guys to read his play.

He'll try little chip kicks to space and we'll be running to weird places waving arms.

Can see Baker just thinking "I'll do it myself" many times
