You make a very good point - culture/leadership - he's a big contributor and very hard to replace. He will help their rebuild enormously if he's around the club for the next six years+.
I think we went past the 'meaningless' comment. The result is meaningless. But there is still lots to see. Especially how young blokes are tracking, how a game plan is shaping up, how are new recruits fitting in, are new draftees going to get a shot? etc
We all know that he is good but this is too spooky, too scary. LFG!

Interesting the whole role thing.
If you had 6 Matthew Pavliches, would you only play 5 plus Banners so you had a different role?
If you had 6 Ballantynes, would you only play 5 plus Kepler for the different role?
At what point do you just play the best available players and model the team play...
Ouch! Bit harsh. I've heard Brayshaw described by his peers several times as 'the best two-way running player in the league'. His skills may not be elite but they are not below average.
I think that's right. I'm no expert but there are laws about public affray/nuisance?? So even if no-one complained you could could get pinged but unlikely.
People are talking about the pressure that JLo will be under in 2025 given it is his last year under contract.
JLo under pressure is a GREAT THING.
If the pressure is external to JLo then he should be laughing inside because he knows that the team's performance in 2025 will silence the doubters...
It's a huge plus for Freo that in 2025 we barely need our oldest players - their young replacements are close to, if not already surpassed, what they offer. We also have leadership and footy nous way beyond the age/games played metrics across all lines. Exciting times.
I agree with you that there has to be a better option. If the club admin are doing their job they have already gamed out that scenario and have a list.
I don't know that it is in the club's best interests to extend pre-finals. Would we be worried that JLo might be poached?
If we are serious about contending for a premiership in the next 5 years then JLo's pass mark for 2025 cannot be incremental improvement ie simply making finals.
IMO a minimum of Top 6 when all is said and done should be our trigger. That means either a Top 4 HnA finish or a 5-8 HnA finish with...
If we boil reasons for optimism down to one simple question:
Are we 2 goals a game better in 2025 compared to 2024?
Bolton + a better midfield + a better attack has to mean the answer is yes.
An extra 2 goals a game changes 2024's 12.5 wins to 18 wins.
It also puts us up there with Sydney as...
I'm not worried about our '4th quarter fade-outs' in 2024 as an indicator of anything in 2025 because I think there is an obvious reason for them that is already passing.
There is a general view that older teams are fitter and therefore better able to run games out. I don't think that is the...
I wasn't meaning to imply that you rotate 7 every week. Just to shift the mentality for a B23 with all other players viewed as injured/depth/development to a B30 with the expectation that rotating these players thru the team as necessary does not imply that people are being dropped or rested as...
Merry Xmas everyone and thanks for a great year.
Cracker Question:
Why is Santa's sack so big?
No, it's not because he only comes once a year.
It's because he's saving himself up to come at Freo in September 3x in the next 10 years.
LFG Boys and Girls.
Yes, good observations.
Obviously first prize is to play the same 23 week in week out with occasional changes for specific match-ups. The pro-side to that is connection/unity. But the concomitant con-side is rigidity. And it is obviously also impossible - s**t happens.
So team flexibility is...
Great picks and discussion thank you.
My main difference would be Johnson for Erasmus. Jonno was clearly ahead in 2024 and I don't know what Ras has shown at this stage for him to have topped Jonno.
Draper is hard to leave out. TBH Chapman/Cox/Pearce all have above average injury profiles so...
