I feel like we're in the best imaginable hands. I've had this stigma/voice at the back of my head whispering that the successful coaches we've had since Parkin have all been non-Hawthorn greats and the unsuccessful ones have all been former Hawk greats...
Jeans - non-Hawk great, massive success...
A lot of fans and BF posters don't object to this sort of thing based on any kind of fact or reasoned thinking, they simply mindlessly kneejerk object to any name that gets thrown up, just coz....
Once again I find myself stoked out of my mind that BF posters are not Hawthorn recruiters or list managers. People talking themselves in circles trying to talk themselves out of grabbing Barrass have NO idea.
If a player of his calibre and profile drops into your lap, you fall all over...
Selection headaches galore. Good to have.
Inevitably there will be injuries, and I feel we're building really good depth. Everywhere except maybe in the tall forward department....
I really do wonder if we're going to seriously hunt a key forward this trade period. Our KPF position is not terrible, but not great.
Dear is going to be a star, we can be reasonably assured of that.
Lewis could be a star but is monumentally injury prone, and may not be back 'til mid-season...
I understand, and agree with, the notion that Sic, as a floating interceptor, is unquestionably one of the elite defenders in the league.
But I have to say that, with Barrass and Battle (hopefully) coming in, I'm completely tantalised by the idea of him going forward. He did that multiple...
Don't start throwing names out there, it triggers the mindless kneejerk auto-responses from the nuffs.
I actually don't think we are short in the midfield, especially if Weds moves in there like I think he could and should now we (hopefully) get Barrass and Battle. A midfield of Nuke, Day...
I believe that if a deal can be struck (if a deal in principle hasn't already been struck), the Hawks brains trust will strike it, Barrass will come to Hawthorn, we'll get 4-6 excellent years out of him, he'll be a very strong contributor and he'll probably win a flag or two with us.
And this...
If he gets a better deal elsewhere and wants to go, we sure AF ain't forcing him to stay. Just as the weagles aren't forcing Barrass to stay.
Contracts mean nothing in this sense.
