Exactly and the first consideration is what is causing the issue. Some think it is still a consideration and some think the players have been passed fit already.
Look mate stop trying to make an argument out of nothing, yes you try to win every game but you don’t die on a hill trying to beat the team that has won 3 of the last 4 premierships if it means damaging your chances to beat Freo, the Suns or the Pies.
Because right now Russell has said he has to get through training tomorrow and therefore is no certainty to play.
If you look back to where this discussion started you will see Michael Jezz posted a forward line on the presumption McKay and Casboult would not be passed fit. That isn’t saying...
Where did I say they wouldn’t, and who would suggest they wouldn’t. The point is there is still doubt IF they will be passed fit.
And the surely the risk of future injury and missing future games impacts on whether they will be passed fit.
Who said anything about “resting“ players, (classic strawman) I am simply suggesting we don’t risk playing an underdone player, especially one who has rolled an anKyle in his last 2 games and is a crucial part of our season. Massive difference.
Of course you try and win every game but that also...
Decent presumption Michael, just like we can’t play players on reputation we can‘t play players who aren’t fit. I trust Andrew Russell and the MC to make the right call but the last thing we need is Harry going to down again early in the game and then missing crunch games against the pies...
Reality is they are the reigning premiers having won 3 of the past 4, haven't beaten them in the last 10 games and have hardly been inside 4 goals in that stretch and have an uncertain line up.
Past performance is not an indicator of future performance but odds are set for a reason.
My hope is their shorter pre-season will have a bigger impact this year given it is so much shorter and we can pinch one. Would have been much more ocnfident with Williams in, McKay at full fitness and Casboult with at least a game under his belt.
"won't" might be a bit strong but I agree with the sentiment, the Pies game is a must win and the the Freo and Suns games could be the most critical of our season - no point risking McKay for a round 1 game we are long odds to win with such important (and arguably more winnable) games imminent.
Last year we averaged 10 inside 50 tackles per game, I believe we had 15 against the Saints.
Obviously not playing any real talls for the game helps that but it will be interesting whether they want to stick a bit closer to loading up with smalls or if they go back to having McGovern, McKay &...
Murphy is a dead cert and will take Gibbons spot. Wouldn't be surprised to see Fogarty in for Betts and I was really impressed with O'brien's limited opportunities in the pre-season - if Newnes doesn't come up I think he would come in.
"You only need 'match winners' to play 15 minutes" That's only if you only focus on the positives. If McGovern was playing his role then popping up and having a 15 minute purple patch it would be one thing, but generally he isn't getting near it for 3 and 1/2 quarters then getting 6 possessions...
McGovern at his best is a real match winner but we generally only get it for 15 minutes a game.
JSOS simply competes, presents and locks the ball forward. We are a better team with him in it.
In 2019 McGovern had under 10 disposals 10 times in 16 games and didn't lay a tackle in 6 but kicked 22 goals. Silvagni had under 10 possessions 3 times in 17 games and laid at least 1 tackle in every game only having less than 3 in 3 games and having 5 or more in 5 but kicked just 11 goals...
That what I was about to say, surely the potential to cause injury is covered by the “careless V Reckless” section, the impact covers the actual injury not the potential.
The AFL seems to have got the penalty close to right while creating a massive rod for their back going forward. Any contact...
