We were playing an injury-depleted JJs team on game 4 of a Sun-Tue-Fri-Sun doomsday quadruple.
Can only beat the team in front of you, but I'm not reading too much into that for the Cats' defence. (or the offence for that matter. Tassie were uncharacteristically awful at that end too)
Cats dominance in that one probably cost Cotton a 40 & 10 and the team $100k. They were heading for a big total.
Turned into garbage time early unfortunately, but absolutely the correct call by Roth to throw the kids on. A comeback was beyond reality and his main guys didn't need to be worn...
Bryce has nothing to do with it IMO (other than perhaps getting us a few extra wins that we didn't otherwise deserve)
Back when we had a competent GM and a competent coach we - strangely enough - managed to win titles despite the burden of being stuck with the best player in the league on the...
Yeah, this win was a lot more about Bryce than about the Wildcats, who are consistently dishing up some of the worst defence seen in recent decades. So much so that it takes a superstar going stratospheric just to get past a pretty average opponent.
Not from an Australian who is able to string more than 3 games in a row without another injury, anyway.
Yeah, I love the way he goes about it. It's not just how good he is, it's the whole way he plays. It's pure.
I too was interested to see how the dynamic would shift with him back.
It all went ok in the end. We took the foot off the pedal late and turned a 20 point win into 13, but that was just Wildcats rather than Bryce. Pretty handy return!
Phoenix mostly insipid after a great 1st quarter so it...
That game looked early on like it was heading to another sad undermanned JJ's loss, and then out of nowhere they pulled a hard 180 handbrake turn and completely shut NZ down. Good stuff.
Credit where it's due. You called it. Chalk up another win for sarcasm!
There are few bigger contrasts in the NBL than Pinder on a good night vs Pinder on a bad night. Massive game, and just about everyone around him played solid roles for 40 minutes even though the shots weren't always...
The way I saw it, Mooney and Darling shot out of their skins because we showed no inclination to play proper defence. Too many of their shots were uncontested looks.
We showed a bit of grit in the 2nd quarter to pull the margin back for half time, and that was about it I thought. Hard to pull...
I'll accept it when it is Slice of Heaven during a NZ home game but outside of that I 100% agree. It was already bad and somehow seems even worse this season around the league.
Heartless "effort" by the Wildcats today. Very disappointing.
My excuse for this post is Alanna Smith starting for Minnesota, and Sandy Brondello coaching New York.
This WNBA finals series has been crazy good so far.
Minnesota just leveled it at home.
Game 5 decider is back at Barclays on Monday morning aussie time.
It was an entertaining game and a good win, but I agree it's not all that meaningful because of those circumstances.
However ...
... let's not get too carried away now!
