Cerra probably wins our BNF last season if he didn't get injured against Collingwood. 2024 we can write off due to injury and poor management but I don't think he is a bust.
It's gotten to the point that you can "feel" the team switching off during games at this point. Hopefully we add some types who enjoy pummeling the opposition.
I'm not being critical because I think we are no hopers that's for sure. Teams stacked with talent and I think we should be the highest scoring by far if we get good luck with injuries. We can blow away a team in 2 quarters then suddenly drop off a cliff for an entire half. I hope our coaching...
A huge "win" considering we kick it 80% of the time to our KPF's after flooding our inside 50. We often had insane efficiency going inside 50 for a quarter or two before it would dry up completely too. I'd love to know what % of contests our small forwards actually won over the season.
If Walsh manages to have a preseason for once I think it'll be less of an issue.
Attitude wise he does himself no favours by demanding the ball when he is in positions where prime Judd and Ablett would struggle to get a good kick off.
Our forward line had a KPF who barely contested (Curnow) and the worst small forwards in the game. Durdin alone often took up our KPF's space to lead into and often contested them in the air too.
Sam Walsh and Kennedy are average kicks that our structure and coaching made rancid.
Our clearance game peaked imo with Dow, Kennedy and Cripps last season.
Cripps is king but Walsh is awful kicking inside 50 too and Hewett lacks hurt factor. Cerra we ran into the ground and now we are acting like Kennedy isn't good enough. In a final where we conceded the first 10 goals our...
We badly need a mid or two with pace and I'd settle for even decent disposal. It got real old watching the ball get outside the contest and watching the opposition stream forward in numbers while Acres tries to defend 1v4.
Our midfield is slow but our disposal is also shocking. I don't know how...
It seems insane to me that we would rely on Williams and Kemp to do that job though. A big part of the reason they were moved forward in the first place was because they weren't reliable enough in defence. Cincotta's form wasn't great but I can't imagine why he wouldn't be picked before several...
Considering how often we let the opposition better players run around unopposed it didn't surprise me.
How many clubs would let Nick Daicos run around goal side by himself in a close game....
I just find it incredible that the coaching department turns it nose up at so many players. Geelong and Hawthorn regularly blooded youth even during their premiership years. Why did we try to force Cerra and Cottrell so hard to the point it broke them? Nobody can say that it was worth the risk...
I had a sinking feeling that he was going to miss and they were going to carry it the whole way. It's irrational and nothing for me to be proud of but it just seemed like a very Carlton thing to happen to us.
All our coaches in recent history whenever we aren't total spoon tier hate playing the kids...
We always have to carry a bunch of mature age athletes who can gut run but lack footskills, game sense, speed and utility.
4. Stagnant ball movement until we are 30-40 points down and we switch it up to play attacking football. That's been a constant occurrence thing since Ratten too.
I still feel guilty for being upset at Cripps last year during our down patch.
He's a champion who desperately needs some support. Best extractor in the league and we have no quick mids for him to pass to....
