Such a disappointing loss...we absolutely did enough to win that, but luck just wasn't on our side (plus Cripps brainfade)...but I tell you what, I absolutely bloody love THIS squad and the phase we are in...almost as much as our 2018 squad.
Waterman going from whipping boy to whipping boys...
Ideally we would try to front load contracts for older players, back load contracts for younger players.
Older players who are no longer performing might be more likely to retire off their own back if they aren't getting paid enough in their last years (see Gaff this year).
Young players who...
Yeo & Kelly might do great around the contest, they are clearly skilled, but if you actually watch the game properly, they are both lazy defensively and lack any poise around the contest. How many of their handballs and kicks ended up as turnovers?
I agree with that 100%, but holy shit their disposal is f***ing sh*te. Loopy handball or hack kick over their shoulder...every damn time. They could learn a few things from Reid.
For all of Duggan's negatives, this is one area we can praise him as a captain.
Without a doubt in my mind we'll see him clean someone up in defence of Reid at some stage this year.
In: JWilliams, Hall
Out: Barnett, Maric
JWilliams to FF. BBW to ruck.
Don't think we should play Maric as sub two weeks in a row, and unless we are going to go with Waterman as 2nd ruck, we're a bit too tall with Maric in the starting line up.
Darling worked his ass off today and helped most of our goals happen, however I tend to agree. He's not as good defensively has he used to be and he's lost a tonne of speed so can't be a leading target anymore.
LEwards looks like a Hutchings-type player to me and will be good depth as we gain...
Have to own up. I wanted the club to split the #1 pick, but boy oh boy was I wrong.
He's already the most skillful player on our team in traffic, 2 games in, at 18 years old.
A true natural footballer, I hope we get to enjoy him show off his skills for many years to come.
Positives
Hunt. Was BOG for us imo.
Reid...enough said.
1st quarter ball movement and pressure was beautiful
Negatives:
BBW at FF. Until we have Flynn back, he has to be our #1 ruck.
Our disposal and forward entry was still horrendous.
Cole...doesn't look confident at all when the ball goes...
His knee being strapped tells me that he wasnt 100% fit to play, but that is just an assumption as well never actually know the inside facts.
Ultimately, I guess you just have more faith than I do right now when it comes to the club making medical decisions.
That culture you're talking about seems to be working pretty well for us right now, doesn't it?
There's a big difference between playing out a game with an injury, and starting a game potentially injured. One is to be admired, the other is selfish...especially when we have young players in the...
Fair enough.
As I mentioned, I only think we should be doing this because of the last two years of recurring injuries and the fact that we are rebuilding. Fully understand that it's part of the game when you are hunting a premiership.
Yep 100%.
Given the issues we've had the last two years with reoccuring injuries, we should be extra cautious with anyone who has foot/knee/shoulder soreness or calf/hamstring tightness.
Put them through a full match simulation or limited WAFL minutes before allowing them to play AFL. No...
Also doesn't help that our mids are probably in a defensive mindset because we lose the tap so often. Our mids are always stationary, waiting to see where the ball goes as opposed to hitting it at pace from a deliberate tap.
Out: Gaff, Darling
In: Jones, J.Williams/Barnett
Sub: Edwards
I know Darling won't be dropped but the game has gone past him, just like Gaff. He's too slow and provides nothing defensively.
Further to that, if we're going to be using Jamison as a backman, we should be rotating B.Williams with...
