Hard to speculate from the media game. Even if he told his manager 3 months ago he wants to go to the crows, they'd likely keep playing the port interest all the way to the end to see if they can wring out an extra year or few more dollars.
Chance to bring back the "Plunge for Distance"? Saw this last week - is objective at least. Would take it over synchronized swimming.

Havent been over this way in a while and missed that you'd been dabbling around here. This is correct - there was a PC20xx that was probably 1/2 way completed before i ran out of time and motivation. The 18th club is in there and skills/ratings were heavily refactored. As Simon pointed out I ran...
Was curious to see how that stacked up historically. Here it is for anyone else curious.
Agree St Kilda will be a good gauge - another low supporter base opponent.
Not convinced either. Has done some nice things and shown he has something, but seems to lack intensity. I dont just mean contested ball, but generally - doesnt stand out as trying to get involved and make things happen. Can be hard to judge on TV without being able to see the whole ground but I...
Not many can measure up to Ben Hart as a kid. Saw his debut in the finals for North the year before. Incredible really.
I'm overseas & dont see kids coming through to the draft outside of the odd highlights clip. So i have no basis for an opinion on where Curtin ends up, how good he is at this...
I dont want out #8 pick playing full back either - i really hope they didnt see him as a tall defender when he was drafted. That would make ~ 5 of 15 1st round picks back to 2008 (6 if you want to count Doedee as a 3rd tall) spent at a position that history shows can be filled with late picks or...
This doesnt make much sense to me. There needs to be a coherent plan for what the kid ends up as, then take actions to develop him in that direction. Giving a kid who you want as a midfielder game time off the back flank or wing for experience makes sense. Lets get him in the side back there...
Thats fair, but this is the data we have. If a player like Smith is getting 70-80% of his possessions uncontested he bloody well better use it well. If the kick-ins are padding the effective percentage that just makes his 65% worse.
I dont love "meters gained" on its own as a raw data point...
The problem with Smith is that he no longer provides the drive and creativity off half back that he's in the side for.
He cant defend, and is becoming less reliable by foot. Was excellent once, but has dropped off sharply.
I'm guessing in general it would be better both short and long term. That's based on nothing but gut feel though, i have no data to back it up :)
I'm speculating that a typical player development arc is to continue to improve at some rate each year up to the point their body/physical ability...
Happy to put my hand up as spectacularly wrong on this one. Was never going to justify the draft pick but i thought he'd develop into a decent/serviceable AFL player as a high half forward type. He's got consistently worse the last two years (not alone there sadly) and reached new lows the past...
He's been an excellent pick-up. Pretty impressive footskills too for a guy who grew up kicking a round ball. Another reminder to stop spending 1st round picks on tall defenders.
They're going to be what-if scenarios with the preferred draft order in each scenario though. We can only speculate, but without spending too long on it if i piece together what's visible back there with a couple of strategic pauses...

All true, but when i hear "carry a player we saw so little chance of development or future success" his is the 1st name that comes to mind. If theres a condition under which you justify using a "list spot, coaching time and effort" the journeyman insurance policy is it.
