I'm continuing to research a project and, while I have some ideas about this, there is some stuff that only the loyals fans of each club know. So I'm after some opinions as to what were the best and worst moments in your club's history, on-field or off it.
Cheers,
E.
I am currently trying to put together a short summary of the greatest players each club has had: somewhere between 3 and 5 per club. While it's going along alright, I'm sure there are some I've missed. So I was wondering... who are the greatest players your club has seen?
Oh, and I'm sure...
To be honest, I don't think we're going to win it. I hope we do, but my gut feeling is that it's the Eagles turn. I just hope all involved are gracious in victory/defeat, and that we can share friendly drinks after the game.
I live on Sydney's lower North Shore. It is by no means a Rugby League suburb... and I am often surprised by the number of Swans fans I encounter in my suburb. While Rugby Union is certainly popular, I think it's fair to say that AFL is becomming increasingly so.
And when talking about...
I know there's a similar thread, but this is taking a slightly different tack.
There were all manner of problems this morning(see: http://www.redandwhiteonline.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=16627
I suggest calling early (we got through at 6:55am, so we were the lucky ones) and having...
Actually, I think he's got a point. Perth is growing rapidly, so it makes sense for the AFL to focus on it as a growth area, much the same as the gold coast. I certainly wouldn't anticipate a 3rd team in the near future, but the AFL's ten year plan should certainly have room for it. But the...
By the same reasoning, Davis should never have been dropped. His form last year was fantastic, particularly in the last half of the season.
Roos is arrogant to suggest he ought to be immune from criticism simply because we won the flag last year.
Tell me honestly this man is not arrogant.
Has he forgotten he would have been under serious pressure had we gone out in straight sets last year.
I think he's underestimating the intelligence of the average fan. We know there's more to the situation that it seems, but that doesn't excuse...
Why not? I for one would love to get to some games that don't involve the Swans. I can't make it down to Melbourne more than a couple of times a season, so a game involving a team other than the Swans in Sydney would absolutely delight me.
It might also be good for some of my more parochial...
She said let's put a plastic bag over our heads
and then kiss and stuff 'til we get dizzy and fall on the bed.
We were in heaven for five or six minutes, then we passed out
and I was so in love I thought I knew what love was all about...
At a Christmas-party, I'd hold your hair when you...
Prior to that, Carlton played a series of matches against the Rugby club Waratah, one under each code of rules. I believe that was in 1877. For a wonderful account of pre-1914 Australian Football in Sydney, check this out...
A crowd of around 18000 witnessed Collingwood play Fitzroy at theSCG on May 23rd, 1903. Carlton played a match against a combined Sydney team in the 19th century, but the first VFL match for premiership points was the game listed abouve. The match featured the 1902 premiers, Collingwood. The...
What a load of absolute rubbish. As though a woman admitting some sexual attraction to footballers nullifies any "natural passion" for the game. The two are not mutually exclusive.
As a young, straight, single woman, I am happy to acknowledge a fondness for Sean Dempster's pout or Ryan...
Absolutely. Press Gang was the thinking child's Degrassi. Still as good as I remembered it (if not better) on DVD. The last season comes out next week.
I'm not so worried about the fans (you of all people should know we can look after ourselves: or at least, Wendy at SARC can look after us). But I am concerned about casual viewers. The kid who has just done an Auskick clinic, whose parents won't take him or her to a game, is unlikely to be...
Club Highlights? Winning a Premiership, Kennelly's goal v. Brisbane at Telstra Stadium, Nick Davis' goals, Ryan O'Keefe in the St Kilda prelim, Leo Barry. Need I go on?
Club Lowlights? The crap we copped in Melbourne post-Round 10. Someone yelled in the street to me "You're ruining...
I can only speak from experience, but channel 10 has demonstrated committment and initiative to promoting Australian Football in Sydney. Channel 9 has shown utter contempt for AFL fans in NSW. Consequently, I hope Channel 10 gets the rights.
Oh, and another poster better answered the...
Out of season, my football brain has atrophied, but IIRC, we get a Sunday game live, or near live, on Channel 9, all Swans games live (or on 1/2 hour delay if they're in Sydney), and maybe one other. We often get Friday night football at sometime between 1 and 5 on Saturday morning.
What...
Already dedicated AFL fans who can afford Foxtel may make the transition, but the opportunities for the growth of the code will be limited. What use are all the Auskick clinics in the world if those kids can't then watch a match and get inspired to keep playing Aussie Rules.
I am a recent...
As a Sydney-sider, I desperately want the 7/10 bid to win. Under the deal the AFL agreed to, there is no guarantee of any live free-to-air AFL football in NSW. Not even during finals. At the moment, AFL fans in NSW are treated terribly by Channel 9, with movies on their tenth or eleventh...
When Tadhg arrived in Australia, we knew it wasn't forever. Most of us didn't think he'd get a senior game. To have come as far as he has, and be a 100-game premiership player for the Swans, he has more than repaid us. Kennelly owes us nothing. I think we'd all like to see him stick around a...
From what I understand (and I am by no means an expert), rape is not merely about sex. It is about power (and, I daresay, a whole range of other issues). While I have no clue whether any of the claims made in past against footballers are true, it is not so impossibly hard to believe that in an...
Plus the Irish didn't have Kennelly, one of the few who can claim to be a talented player of both Gaelic and Australian football. He would have made a significant difference; maybe not the difference between winning and losing, but a couple of points at least.
From the Swans, I reckon Craig Bolton would be a pretty good catch. Most Swans fans rated him ahead of Leo Barry this year, and Leo made AA (though we decided he earned it in the GF :p ).
Other prominent Swans not to have made it would be Jude Bolton, Tadhg Kennelly, Nick Davis and Ryan...
