Thing is too many of our players seem to lack even the most basic of skills (kicking, marking, hand pass, etc).
Against the Hawks how many times did the kicker miss his target ? Remember Fev going off more than once because he was in a good possie but the ball delivery sailed over him or way away...
Having grown up here in Darwin I know most of the players mentioned above, played with/against them, went to school / worked with some of them.
Basically the sides back then WERE much better than sides today.
The Districts side of 1988/89 would beat the current Districts side by about 80 +...
The best Districts side was back in 88/89 when we had Jakovich, Hughes, Cox, Kemp, Lawson, Collard, Buckley etc.
Now that was a great era in NT footy which wont be seen again, not long after the teams went downhill and the crowds followed.
For those who have been in Dwn for 40 yeras like me we...
With Joe Anderson his best position will be on the oppositions small forwards, and as a rebounding defender.
He will make a good tagger one day as well, but his ability to go forward should not be under estimated as he can do that as well.
For those of you with Foxtel / Austar if you have yet...
The biggest problem for Australia is scoring goals against the medium to better teams.
Playing with one striker is not the answer, we need to play with two..if it is the A League selection then Griffiths and Aloisi..if it is the overseas selection then Viduka and Kewell in a striking role.
The...
It is pre -season as we all know and I for one am counting the hours till the new season begins.
As a result of being news hungry I grabbed the Inside Footy and the following stories are in it that I am just going through.
And no, I live in Darwin and do not work for the paper, just snapping...
Joe Anderson rolled his ankle training here in Darwin with his old team while he was on his holiday.
From what I know he is in the re-hab group at CARLTON now.
While home in Darwin he went magpie goose shooting with his mates.
As for Benjamin...
He has what it takes, no doubt.
The BIG problem is he burns up the training track in Summer...PROBLEM is he can not stand the Winter, hates it.
That is probably why he did not seem interested last season, he was too busy hating the cold.
He may be a little more used to...
To add to the Darwin post.
Yes, Lance is set to play two games up here for the Palmerston Magpies (a mid table team where he has a cousin playing, and brother Shane Whitnall played a season for), don't know how Lance will like the heat though, although he visits Darwin often.
Having lived...
If Whitnall is axed as a player he should come on board as an assistant coach a she does have a good footy brain and is young which is what we want in the coaching panel to go with our young list.
So I expect many saw the Fox Sports "Before the Bounce" on 21/09/07.
The panel said Fev was shopping around other clubs and wants out of PP.
Any thoughts ?
If he does want to go, then the Eagles can have him and pick 3 for Judd.
Although, the panel also said the Eagles DO NOT want him !!
We will not get Buckley.
Most people would have seen the Eddie interview a week or two back I think.
Anyway, Eddie said he would love Bucks to play on in 2008, but that "we" are sitting down with him and working on his continuation with the club when he stops playing. So guess Bucks will be...
Source. A life friend of Sheedy - who's son worked for him in a video editing role.
I must admit that i am an anti-Fevola fan. This is however a fairly reliable rumour. I would hope that Calton would consider
= Brian Donohue ?
My ex's first cousin.............
Anyone know how he is travelling ?
We need a fast player, and he was touted as very fast...yet he seems to be struggling in the Ants yet alone coming close to an AFL call up, despite our form.
I know he had an interrupted pre-season, but does he look the part to those that see him play for the...
And on the footy Voss was saying he was not sure if he wanted to coach..smokescreen or is he a done deal ?
Did come up that he had met D.Pratt prior to the game...reckon he is in..and hope Ratts gets a gig in a senior role.
I saw the press conference, and heard Kevin say he has met great people at the Bombers, like Brian Donohoe.
Can anyone explain who Brian is and how he affected Kevin ?
Thanks.
I think that Voss will coach us with Sheedy as mentor, and hope Ratten stays on as No. 3 in that order.
And I know that Pagan had lost the players....know for a fact (can not disclose source for same reasons as others can not) that Betts was in the team to play Brisbane, but asked to play in...
But Ratten was there, sitting next to Pagan in the box.
Therefore, if he was there and had some influence and we still got belted and showed no emotion, what does giving him the hot seat change ?
Or is it that he was held back by Pagan and could not exert his influence on what happened ?
Not...
Re: partition to sack Pagan
Yes, the players were very poor vs Brisbane. Several were not trying.
For those who say what could a coach do to change this.
Well, get in a good coach who will make each and every player s@#t himself if he stuffs up. Put the fear in them, get them to walk over hot...
And hopefully it is a caretaker coach, Ratten, to see us through to the seasons end.
I do not think Ratten is good enough to coach us in '08 (after all, he is part of the present set up) but maybe he will be told to play the kids.
Be much better getting game time into them than wasting time on...
You all miss the point on my Kennedy bit.
He is NOT that good a player that he should have gone at No. 4 in the draft, there were better players than him BELOW him in that draft.
He is not a natural footballer (basketball as a kid)
He is not fast (a worry in this game where being quick is...
My two cents worth...
Even before the bounce Fev was walking with hands on hips and head down..looking disintereted and even resigned to another loss..was a bad sign.
The day before I heard a radio grab saying that J.Brown was ready for a big performance. I immediately said to myself "he...
Admit it...Pagan is one answer to the poor showings.
The players, well most are not AFL standard. The likes of Young, Bannister, Kennedy, and several others are not elite players, and never will be.
For those who saw the telecast, commentators wondering if we chose wisely in using a no.4 pick...
Why Ratten ?
He is a part of the coaching mess.
Don't you see him sitting beside Denis on the telecast ?
Obviously he has a lot of input.....and we are getting flogged.
Will he do better if he is coach ?
Need to replace Pagan at seasons end without doubt.
I just believe he can not communicate with kids anymore, he is too old.
Just a fact of life.
We need a fresh young coach who will be full of enthusiasm and energy. Someone like Voss or Harvey would do it.
There are also obviously problems...
With our need for more pace, how is Benjamin faring in the VFL for those who know ?
He is supposed to be super quick, and tall...what is wrong with his game that he can not get up to AFL standard yet ?
Yes, I know he is young, but look around the other clubs. The kids they have are starting to...
