Resource 2024 Finals Ticketing and other finals info

They have a facebook group but haven't posted anything. I remember 2014 prelim there was a meet up at Fed Square and then a mass march to the ground that was organised by the club (at least from memory). Hopefully there are some plans in the works!

Just had a crack now to see if any tickets are available for public sale. Looks like its either sold out, or very close to. Hopefully any Port priority members got through! Have to say, have been pleasantly surprised how easy ticketek has been this year for all three games.

Also, does anyone know if there is any pre-game/post game events happening?

REH says so, I sat near there a few years ago and it's not bad. From memory, the SCG has pretty good views all over the ground.

Second guessing myself now. Will sell one lot. We have either Bay 1 or Bay 5. Also would prefer to sit in an area with the most Port fans! Do you know what race the Port players will come out?

I decided my kid would rather sit behind the goals near the cheer squad, so I went and got a second set of tickets. I now have 3 tickets to sell if anyone is interested. Will sell at face value, the tickets are in Bay 5, underneath the big screen.

I got 2 under one barcode. Have a spare barcode if needed.

There looked to be heaps of Port bays still available. The issue will be if they start to allocate Port bays to Sydney fans. Remember the que probably includes Geelong and Brisbane fans.

I'm in Bay 5, near the front.

Have flights booked! Didn't really think about the SCG being a smaller ground and tickets being a problem. Kind of ridiculous they allow SCG members so many tickets for $20 in a final, with already limited seats. Also strange they would allow 2 tickets for every one barcode. Will be very...

Roast Umpiring: Corruption or Incompetence, or both

Your using a lot of big words and deep thought which I can't match, so I'll just give my quick take relating to what I think you are saying, but in my own limited basic way. Selections/performance/dropping/promoting is very subjective, and always has been. Whilst I do believe the coaches at the...

Roast Umpiring: Corruption or Incompetence, or both

At SANFL level, the review system was a weekly occurrence. There was always an observer at the game who basically made a video for each umpire to watch before training. This video included every decision and an assessment whether it was correct or not. It also included missed free kicks, bad...

Roast Umpiring: Corruption or Incompetence, or both

Thanks for the nice words and agree with what you've written. Just quoted the last bit as it is an interesting analogy. My only point I would add though is that umpires are basically instructed to carry out what the umpiring coaches want. Unlike police officers, literally every movement and...

Roast Umpiring: Corruption or Incompetence, or both

Seems a very odd thing to say to a fellow Port fan merely offering an educated opinion on individual free kicks. If you can point to where you think I've completely gone wrong by all means. For my defence I can point to over 200 games of umpiring across various SANFL levels, being in the middle...

Roast Umpiring: Corruption or Incompetence, or both

Im not sure, but I suspect you may have miss interpreted my post a little. Or I may not have worded my thoughts well enough to understand. Having said that to clarify: - Gray 50m. Yes was a correct decision. I think I said "crows player didnt need to do it" or words to that affect. That is...

Roast Umpiring: Corruption or Incompetence, or both

Yes I was, because Gibbs retained clear possession of the ball all the way through, he is entitled to play on from a mark or free kick. Very different if the ball spills out or another player gains possession.

Roast Umpiring: Corruption or Incompetence, or both

Watched the game today and took down some notes on the umpires as they went. Overall umpires were not brilliant, but not the worst. The first five minutes of the game was terrible, and in the last quarter there were some very important frees/50m penalties I wouldn’t have paid. I think Port...

    That score review

I'm not sure what they are currently doing, but in previous years all decision making is done from a bunker in Melbourne. Not from anyone at Adelaide Oval. Not that this is really relevant to the decision, but I doubt there would be any bias alliance to the crows. What was very surprising to me...

Mega Thread Port Forum 'General AFL Talk' Thread Part 9

It's not that Magpies players don't care. It's that they care far more about getting a spot in the A grade then they do about a Magpies premiership and winning. I'm not privy to the inner sanctum of the team, however the feeling I always got from them was one that was very similar to that of a...

Mega Thread Port Forum 'General AFL Talk' Thread Part 9

Not wanting to be disrespectful/aggressive, but being out in the middle in 2013 was very different to 2014. I know there are some fans who still think/believe differently and that's all well and good, but unfortunately it was a huge change. I'm not meaning that to get into a magpies v power...

Mega Thread Port Forum 'General AFL Talk' Thread Part 9

Whilst I can't give a comprehensive answer, I might be able to shed some light to this (I am a former SANFL League umpire who did quite a number of crows and magpies games, including finals and games where there were large free kick discrepancies against the AFL side). I cant explain why there...

Roast Umpiring: Corruption or Incompetence, or both

That may be what triggered the rule, but not why they said they would pay a free kick. They could have done a lot of other things instead of paying a free kick, such as having a ball up in the goal square, boundary throw in, or a free kick from the closest line of the centre square (all of these...

Roast Umpiring: Corruption or Incompetence, or both

I tend to agree, I personally think it's ridiculous that a sport literally penalises a team which scores for the opposition. I preferred it when teams could rush as many behinds as they liked. This also meant complete consistency and avoided human error when applying this rule by umpires. But...

Roast Umpiring: Corruption or Incompetence, or both

You might be interested in this video. It gives a very clear black and white explanation of what the current interpretation is (tightened in 2017). You're correct to say that between 2008 and 2016 the Shaw one was probably not a free kick (being honest, when I first saw it I thought it was a...

Roast Umpiring: Corruption or Incompetence, or both

Fair analysis I suppose. I guess I can alter my words to say only in my opinion the better team on the day won. I wasn't at the game and just watching on tv from London in the early AM, so probably didn't have a great feel for where the game was at.

Roast Umpiring: Corruption or Incompetence, or both

Just a quick take: Free for rushed was probably correct. Shaw had no pressure and clearly deviated straight to the line. What followed was unfortunate and clearly an error by the two umpires in the vicinity. Personally I would blame the umpire who was standing alongside Wingard than the umpire...
