I get what you are saying - but it's not up to the SFL to ensure teams are competative, it's up to the clubs.
They (SFL) can't sit there "Oh this club can beat these guys so it'd be nice for them to have a win early on" etc.
South Yarra thirds went from a team that got SMAISHED in 2014 and all...
There are always going to be stronger teams who have to play the weaker ones. It's not purely up to the SFL to put out a fixture that appeases the cries that a Div 1 thirds team can thump another Div 1 thirds team. Nothing stopping teams working harder on the track and improving like South...
Agree. Would work better and create abit of an even playing field. In saying that though, I think the idea was there this year to make the 2 comps based on what Division the senior teams belong to. Bit of tinkering and should be a sweet season next year.
Any info on how the league plan to structure the thirds comp in 2016?
Have heard conflicting info saying that it's going to be the same as 2015 with Skye going up into the Blue Comp, and that it's going back to the way it was in 2014 as just the one single division.
They have performed real well in the finals. South Yarra were also strong, which was a real good turn of form givent heir last few years.
I'm tipping Dingley to take the cup home in the Blue comp.
Here's to hoping things get easier for Doveton - but Hallam have only actually played one game so far in this season and forfeited the rest. Disappointing for them as a club/team no doubt, but also for their opponents each week.
That's a pretty good point and a pretty devestating reality.
Spose it made more sense on paper than how it actually is. You'd think that a Div 1 team that fields a Thirds side would be pretty strong (eg Dingley) but you look at how Mordi are going so far...
They'd have to see how many Thirds...
Any news on how teams are going for numbers this year?
I know Hallam and Doveton are running low on players.
South Yarra seem to be stronger this year and I've heard their list has had a boost with new blokes.
Round 1 is a good guage to see how well teams prepared and gelled in the pre-season. Not directed at anyone here - allot of other comps blokes are claiming for certain teams to "have it in the bag". After one hit out - extremely rich call.
Last couple of seasons it's been pretty evenly matched with the mixture of all Div 1,2,3 teams. There's always going to be sides that struggle, and just because your senior squads are in a certain Division doesn't really give your team any real advantage.
End of the day it's still a competition...
