I was pretty flat after the pick 3 trade, like everyone. But now that the dust has settled I think it's far from the disaster many are making it out to be. Think we got less than we should have for pick 3, but we took the option available to us. Yes there were other picks other clubs had we...
I'm done with reading about draft picks.
Exact type of player we are missing. Experienced, hard at it, improves our age profile (you can't just stack your squad with teenagers), works hard for the team. It's not just what he brings as a player individually, but what it means for the team's...
Look, I can see what they were trying to do. The problem is we got squeezed on both sides of the deal. 3 for 12,14,73 (Owies should have been a DFA) in an even draft is not great... if that 73 was say a mid 30s pick I'd feel a lot better. Then 14 for Baker really needed to have a late second or...
Geelong a professional and well drilled team as always. Against the Power using brute force and bang it long tactics as always. Power could still roll over the top of them yet, but just feels like they should be a much better team with the players they have available... always doing it the hard way.
Think Graham will be an underrated get this off season if that goes ahead. Our midfield mix just isn't right. All of Kelly, Yeo, Reid are attacking mids. A defence - first role player who can tackle could really balance us out. Still clearly need to work on team defence regardless.
Even if they don't overtake us on % today... we have our annual Cats in Geelong game to finish up. Looking forward to that one. But would love to get the win today.
The 50m was technically there. But it's nowhere near as bad as some others that are let go. Not the sort of 50m I'd like to see given to decide a game in the dying minutes. Was the right call imo. Stop your winging pies.
Haven't watched much of Sydney since early season. But based on what they've dished up tonight, they look like a one trick pony. Teams have worked out how to stop their ball movement and they've got no plan B. Playing right into the Pies hands over and over. Just dumb football.
Fair enough, and I'm not knocking him, I'm a fan. I'm not as concerned about his kicking as others. Just not sure he has the natural leading patterns and nous of a forward. No doubt he would improve with patience... but when we have Allen, Waterman, J.Williams and now A.Reid coming through he...
I'd like to see this. I think B.Williams has improved his aerial presence a fair bit this year. Has taken some good marks behind the ball. He's athletic and a good scrapper at ground level and can't fault his effort.
More importantly, as much as I like him as a player, he doesn't appear to...
Coaches develop over time just like players do. He may well have ironed out those tendencies and be a more rounded coach these days?
Anyway, I know nothing of the world of coaching... so as long as the process is thorough I'm happy to back in whoever we pick. The players also need to take...
Really liked the game from him tonight. Not massive stats, but seemed like he was involved in a lot of good forward chains. Just looks a natural footballer. Could be anything.
To my untrained eye, Trew's strength seems to be his hands in the contest. He's generally clean and feeds the ball to the outside well, and can link up through the middle.
His footskills seem average at best, and he's not quick. We could afford to have one player like him in the side I think...
Not gonna lie. I love watching the Dons getting smashed. The constant cutting to Brad Scott in the box getting slowly more agitated. It's just good TV. Carn crows, keep it up.
I found this a good read. Some really interesting graphics in there. With everything that's happened over the past 3 years, it's easy to forgot just how damaging a side we were. The West should take notice of how real journalism looks...
Thought we did the right thing retaining Simpson throughout the past few disastrous seasons, and still think that was the right call. No point blooding a new coach in what was obviously a complete write-off of a situation with our injuries and list position. Whether Simpson could come out the...
Positives:
-Liked the look of L.Ryan through the middle. Always looked dangerous.
-R.Maric up the ground looked good too.
-Ginbey. Continuing to build.
Negatives:
-Forward conversion cost us a chance at winning it.
-A few weak links. J.Jones frustrating. Just needs to be cleaner. Petch was...
Out: Sheed, Gaff, H.Edwards (team balance)
In: Kelly, Hunt, Maric
Maric to start
Maric and Hunt to share wing/HB duties. Both can be line breakers... Hunt with run and Maric with kicking skills.
Came to post something very similar to this. Would love to see Maric trialed at HB, or possibly...
I think it should be a week off, 100%. The extra week loading is what I can't understand based on many other decisions made this year. There is always the potential to cause injury, but they seem to pick and choose when to apply that clause.
What a joke. So is this going to be the new standard punishment set for this type of incident, or is it just a one-off. Guess it will depend on the club involved and how big the game is the following week.
Adelaide is not a champion team at the moment, but what they are is generally a well organised and structured team that can move the ball well. If your team defence/pressure is off and they get to play how they want, they will cut you open. Different kind of challenge to last week with...
In fairness to Essendon, they do appear to be playing with a lot more defensive structure than previous years. But still think they'll be found out when the heat turns up against better sides. Would be a real shame.
I think LEdwards deserved an extended crack for promising signs he has shown in the past while being in and out with injury. In the past he has shown an ability to find space in traffic where there was none, made good decisions and had neat skills. But he definately hasn't shown as much so far...
Thought it was a pretty honest answer from Simpson? We are currently not using our wing a whole lot, the same as many other teams in the comp. It's all about winning the ball and attacking as quickly as possible through the corridor before the other team can setup defensively. If you need to...
