Analysis The Rebuilds of Geelong and Richmond and their Future Prospects

I expected a very mediocre season in 2011. Most people have conveniently forgotten that this was year one of everyone proclaiming that the Cat's period of dominance was over.. Scott took a team that had just been embarrassed by Collingwood, and turned them into literally the only team in the...

Why has 4th on the ladder not won a grand final this century?

Let's assume the top four teams each have an equal chance of winning the Premiership, and only top four team have a meaningful chance. That gives a 75% chance each season that fourth does not win and the chance that fourth doesn't win for 24 years is about 0.13%. This is improbable, but...

    Preview QF2 Geelong v Port Adelaide Thursday Sept 5 2024 @ AO 7:40 pm

Probably the hardest matchup we could have for the QF. I like it. Win, and I like us for Premiers. Lose and we confirm we're probably not good enough this year, but we get another shot at it anyway.

Game Day Rd 18 Pies V Cats Fri July 12 2024 740 pm @ MCG

I was at home, with about 20 Hawk fans. :( But I got us over line in the prelim the year before, so there's that.

Game Day Rd 18 Pies V Cats Fri July 12 2024 740 pm @ MCG

It's all good, everyone. I was at the Essendon game two weeks ago, and I will be there again tonight. The last time the Cats lost a game I attended was the 1997 Qualifying Final vs North Melbourne.

Autopsy Cats lose to Swans by 30 points

I'm a lot more comfortable with this loss than the previous week's win. No idea what the rest of the season will hold, but it's clear that when everything clicks, we still have what it takes. We've banked plenty of wins; from here on out it's just a matter of doing our best to finish with a top...

No, it happens to every fanbase. The least fun part of all the sports I follow is the negative fans of my own teams.

Why AFL Footy Sucks Explained in One Sentence.

This isn't unique to AFL. As you said, coaches are paid to win, not to create an entertaining spectacle, and it happens in a wide range of team sports. In general, coaches tend to preach defence first, whether it's AFL or NFL or hockey or whatever. And good defence is often something that bores...

Analysis The Rebuilds of Geelong and Richmond and their Future Prospects

Right you are, basic reading comprehension fail on my part. I really should have double-checked, because it did seem like a far more favourable result than it should have been.

Analysis The Rebuilds of Geelong and Richmond and their Future Prospects

Assuming your stats are right, if we hadn't beaten those sides, they'd have a combined w/l record of 15w/15l. Suddenly it's looking a lot better. In fact, it's almost as if playing good teams has a a tendency to damage your overall record.

Roast Geelong can't develop young players

Your points are valid. On the other hand, I'm confident that no matter how many games Geelong win or who who we beat or where we win them, a significant number of people will claim it's only because of a soft draw and an unfair home ground advantage, and that we're about to fall off a cliff...

Review Cats turn Lions into wet pussies at the Gabba by 26 points

Yeah, he's come along way from where he was when we drafted him right out of primary school. Edit: Oh, I assume this is a rating of the games he played before he turned 20, not saying he is still under 20. Never mind me.

Certified Legendary Thread 2 x Premiership Coach Chris Scott contracted to 2026 (aka the Chris Scott volumes

I've never been convinced he's definitely done, mostly because I didn't think we'd keep him on out of pure stubbornness. But there was certainly a time when it seemed to me that we'd tried everything, that a change at that top was all that was left to do, and I didn't understand the reasoning...

    Autopsy AFL 2024 Round 5 - Cats v North Sun April 14th 1:00pm (GMHBA)

It needs to clear the line. However, if it clears the line and hits the flag, it's a behind. I assume this is to avoid a situation where you are unable to determine whether it also hit the back of the post, while it did hit the flag. I don't recall it coming up very often.

Do you believe senior coaches should have an expiry date?

It sound likes you're suggesting that a new appointment should potentially come with a fixed end date, and the team moves on at that date, no matter what the current situation is. I cannot see any upside to locking yourself into such a deal. What if the coaching market has nothing to offer when...

Expansion Surely Wellington or another NZ based team is the next port of call for an new AFL Team/Franchise

The Saints drawing a GF they were minutes away from winning, and then getting smashed the next week, was hilarious. It would not have been nearly as funny if they actually won Premierships every now and again.

News ‘Would be unreal’: AFL to consult clubs over addition of ‘wildcard round’ to finals

When you say "equalising" what you're really talking about is invalidating the entire home and way season. The exact same logic you've used can be also used to extend the finals to every single team, thus ensuring that no team ever misses out due to an unfair fixture. 9 or 10th might only be...

News ‘Would be unreal’: AFL to consult clubs over addition of ‘wildcard round’ to finals

Sounds like it probably is the McIntyre Final Five, then. And I agree it was excellent. Among other things, it required you to beat everyone above you to win a Grand Final. When we have more than 20 teams in the comp, I wouldn't be too unhappy with a final ten that uses two groups of five teams...

Opinion Geelong in the last 17 years. Best team of the 21st century?

Ah, ok, I see your point, and it's a fair distinction. I'd rate the Cats 07 - 11 as on a similar level as a team, but at that point we're talking very subjective assessments, and you're entitled to see a threepeat as more impressive.
