Just looking at Miers stats. We don’t want his little “form slump” to last too long. 12 possessions @ 25% effective and 6 turnovers. Last 2 weeks he has combined had 5 score involvements and 1 goal assist.

The two games before that he was more “gryan like!” So lets just hope it is a 2 week bug.

Maybe we can release him a little more up the ground given Dempsey seems to be more effective forward? Need Miers as the plus 1 around the contest
Getting more attention off the ball like Stewart?

No, it happens to every fanbase. The least fun part of all the sports I follow is the negative fans of my own teams.

are from fans that been spoiled and their expectation are then stayed at a certain level.

we won a lot of games unexpectedly early in the year and lost some unexpectedly recently.

we were within a goal of GWS and Port. The comp is very even, on any given day anything can happen. Richmond are the only team to beat sydney so far.

that's what separate great players, you play well, you get more attention, up to you to adjust and elevate to another level.

Just wanted to make a somewhat orthogonal comment about reffing in league sports.

I used to believe in umpire bias in the AFL. Then I moved to North America and realized the AFL doesn't have anything close to an umpire problem. The NHL is absolutely ludicrous. The team I follow has crazy stats, like losing the last TEN games in a row when reffed by a particular guy, despite my team being a league leader. Its totally shameless.
Now there is a word you dont hear very often.

So it's ok to hit someone in the face now?

"Tigers forward Rhyan Mansell has also escaped with a fine after his strike on Geelong's Jake Kolodjashnij in the first quarter of Saturday night's clash."

Again.

It's due to the grading:

Careless conduct
Low impact
High contact

= a fine

Medium impact would have seen it be a 1 week suspension

You know why, allrighty! Like the old tribunal.

Because. . .

Ridiculous that a glancing head clash from Clark is deemed "medium impact" but a punch that rearranged Kolo's face is deemed low impact.

As per Tribunal guidelines, high bumps will basically always be graded as medium impact due to the "potential to cause injury"

1. Rough Conduct (High Bumps)

The AFL Regulations provide that a Player will be guilty of Rough Conduct where in the bumping of an opponent (whether reasonably or unreasonably) the Player causes contact that is at least Low Impact to be made with any part of his body to an opponent’s head or neck. If not Intentional, such conduct will be deemed to be Careless, unless:
  • » The Player was contesting the ball and it was reasonable for the Player to contest the ball in that way; or
  • » The contact to the opponent’s head or neck was caused by circumstances outside the control of the Player which could not be reasonably foreseen.

In the interests of Player safety, the purpose of the rule dealing with high bumps is to reduce, as far as practicable, the risk of head injuries to Players and this purpose needs to be kept firmly in mind by all Players and will guide the application of the rule.

Any high bump which constitutes Rough Conduct that has the potential to cause injury will usually be graded at a minimum as Medium Impact, even though the extent of the actual physical impact may be low.

For the purpose of these Guidelines, head clashes that result when a Player has elected to bump are circumstances that can reasonably be foreseen. Players will ordinarily be liable if they elect to bump if not contesting the ball.

Who would have thought at the start of the year that we would have a game where Bowes, Holmes and Dempsey was unanimously voted by both coaches as the three best on the ground! (Coaches splitting hairs between Bowes and Holmes for BOG)

Other point is that it shows how much love Scott has for Duncan. He will get managed once, max twice and almost certain to stay part of our campaign to peak into finals

Yes, probably more suited to earlier era type of football.
Can’t see him as a backman and not a good enough tank for wing/MF
Might end up like a Houlihan or Ryan gamble.
Trying to take speccies all the time limits his second efforts. Can’t see the coaches being too happy with that.
He does manage to hit the scoreboard regularly though.
A dry spell in the scoring department may see him relegated.
If he doesnt have the tank to move up field then i think he is another ryan gamble (another player who had similar talents but less opportunities as ollie henry) and is done.
