Wow! 16 flags and 8 runners up in 33 years. That would have to be one of the best records of any club any size. Population according to Wikipedia is 29. What is their secret?
3 times the population of powelly plus I’m guessing some players might have holiday homes there ?
Mansfield has 5000 people and a major league club, no other district league clubs as close? I wonder if any locals from swanpool and tatong were inclined to migrate to to BD?
I’ll still give...
You make some good points but I disagree slightly. Winning a flag should be the goal of every club but I don’t think it’s their sole purpose. I would put providing a safe and healthy outlet for the community as the top priority.
Which towns are the best examples of this? Powelly has to be up...
I’ve just double checked how it played out. My bad, Seville FNC as the senior footy minor premier have been prioritised.
In my defence I’m a casual observer who wants to see the Burras do well 😅
This wouldn’t be ideal but you would have your home games together obviously, some opponents would be traditional rivals so all together. Some new opposition would be able to have netball nearby easily and some would hopefully adjust over the next decade. Yvmdfnl took 10 years I’m guessing to...
If a senior coach doesn’t recruit well he’ll be criticised. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t.
Powelly’s new coach looks to be great get. Any thoughts?
RUMOURS are a few minor gippsland league clubs are exploring moves. Could be a domino effect that opens opportunities for Pakenham etc.
Lots of talk of club movement statewide, is it time for afl vic to grow a set and adjust league compilations to suit 2025 and beyond?
Interesting questions. If an Alex player was serving a suspension would this count as a week missed? Would this count as games played toward finals qualification for each player?
Hopefully Powelly get on the park this week
Life ban? I believe that comes after 16 weeks suspension.
Junior received his first suspension in 20+ years of senior footy last year thanks to a personal targeted social media campaign from an opposition club. He is far from a thug.
Hopefully the Alex player recovers fully and speedily...
I played all my juniors at Wesburn 2000-07. At that time the natural progression was toward Warby’s U/18’s as Powelly didn’t field them. Powelltown was kind of the alternate option for anyone and I feel like it has continued along that path essentially. I’m not sure how striking up a secondary...
I’m trying to think big picture. In the last 5 years Yea, Broadford, Thornton have all gone into recession. Hopefully not but potentially Powelly. This hasn’t helped anybody. If the trend continues the situation starts getting pretty dire.
could this option of one team per club be more sustainable for small towns? Omeo district has never had reserves I don’t think
local clubs survive and continue to provide an important active social outlet
Good luck to Yea this season. I don’t see the point in being pessimistic at this stage.
I was involved at Powelltown in 2007 when we were coming out of recession. Very hard to recruit players when they might take a phone call then hear on the grapevine we didn’t even have a team. It’s a shame to...
Well there you go. We must not have overlapped because both times I played against Warrandyte it was a good day. It was Powelly’s seconds vs Warrandyte’s 8ths I’m pretty sure
Yeah that’s probably a fair enough assessment from years ago but I feel Pedro and team have tried hard to improve things every season. We have never performed well in finals over the journey so we were probably reluctant to go up grades after being knocked out in semis or losing finals. The fact...
I’m very tempted to ask which rdca club you played for but I’ll resist.
As a Powelltown cricket player I found some teams that travelled the distance to Powelltown had their knickers in a knot when they arrived (North Ringwood for example were absolutely feral on arrival)
Most teams especially...
I won’t pretend to know how these decisions are made but I would be interested to compare how many applications were made by each sporting club.
I’m a former Powelltown footballer and recent cricketer. I know that plans and applications have been in the pipeline for at least 15 years. Again I...
