SEASON 2024

I'm not sure how people expect that Powelltown with it's 200 population would be able to field seniors and reserves without recruiting externally. It's a miracle they've been able to survive as long as they have.

Makes it even more inexcusable they’ve neglected junior pathways.

The last time the league began advertising its Div 2 fixture whilst one of their clubs was clearly in the middle of a difficult situation only added to the noise around the situation and probably the anxiety to those involved.

Why they would choose to do it again should amaze me.... but......

Couldn't resist, I played a game there a few seasons ago and couldn't get out of there quick enough hehe!
I’m very tempted to ask which rdca club you played for but I’ll resist.
As a Powelltown cricket player I found some teams that travelled the distance to Powelltown had their knickers in a knot when they arrived (North Ringwood for example were absolutely feral on arrival)
Most teams especially Kilsyth and Warrandyte made the most of the country drive and I believe enjoyed it.
I’m sorry you felt you had to speed away hopefully your next trip is more enjoyable!

I've travelled to Powelly cricket also but not so recently - this was in last few seasons of YVCA. Their team played in the 4ths and smashed everyone each week but they refused to go up to 3rds as it was easy to sit back in a lower grade and collect flags (a theme???). Our team (like most 4ths) were heavily made up with U14 and U16 players and Powelly took great joy in pounding these kids with short bodyline stuff. Anytime one of their batters went out they would leave the ground swearing their heads off despite the women and kids present. Other teams we played with also shared the same experiences. Maybe things have changed in past few seasons but it wasn't a good look for cricket.

Yeah that’s probably a fair enough assessment from years ago but I feel Pedro and team have tried hard to improve things every season. We have never performed well in finals over the journey so we were probably reluctant to go up grades after being knocked out in semis or losing finals. The fact the club has arguably outlasted warby, launch and Gruyere is a testament that they are doing something right.
Powelly won c grade vs Gruyere 08/09
Their 2nd XI won
One day grade 10/11
1st XI just beat mt evs 4ths 14/15 (I made 6)
2nd XI just won vs Healesvilles 4ths last season (I was 13th man)

I think the comment we sat back and collected flags is a bit unfair, we rarely missed finals but often got rolled once bigger clubs got to full strength.

Only fair that you know who I was playing for, It was indeed Warrandyte.

I was actually filling in because a few guys couldn't make the long trip. Maybe a few of the Powelltown players woke up on the wrong side on the bed that morning!

I definitely don't miss playing cricket where the players have to umpire.

Well there you go. We must not have overlapped because both times I played against Warrandyte it was a good day. It was Powelly’s seconds vs Warrandyte’s 8ths I’m pretty sure

I'm fairly sure the game I played was against the first 11.

Also not surprised you had a good experience playing against Warrandyte, the cricket club is easily the best sporting club I ever played for.

Yeah they were a delight, played on the tiny oval down there and was made to feel very welcome in the social rooms after!

Hahaha Powelly recruit and its cheating the cap but Healesville go and recruit a player that was getting $2500 a game and its good.

What a joke.
Sure he was getting 2500 a game

100% you're on the money

I've heard that for at least one particular player who has been kicked out of other former YVCA clubs that hasn't changed.

Be great to hear what’s happening outside one club! Over the same old same garbage about Powelltown and the dribbling out of pumppineapple pumpkin head or whatever the **** he calls himself. Great to see premier league starting much earlier than last year with a few games in the 1st week of April which somewhat aligns with EFL making practice matches balanced around build ups to each of the respective round 1’s.
