But that's not RL's problem or fault except for maybe the NRL Footy show (in Brisbane anyway).
When the season started 9 was getting 692,000 in FIVE markets with Kings of Comedy.
For the first FNF game they got over 1.2 million nationally (in 3 cities) at 7:30. This has since dropped...
Kenny
It is true that the NRL FNF has dropped off. It is correct that the first FNF included 238,000 for the Melbourne v WT game. This sort of figure won't be replicated in Melbourne for some time.
However, if you add the regionals the NRl/ARL wins the national FNF battle with AFL hands...
Here is a comparison on the FTA TV audiences of the first round of both the AFL & NRL this year:
The AFL's FTA audience for the first round was:
(4 Games)
in Ks
709 Friday (Ch 7)
591 Sunday( " )
127 Adelaide ( " )
829 Saturday night (Ch 10)
716 Saturday arvo ( " )
200 Regionals...
Kenny , we are talking about Pay TV.
(The NRL games got 762K BTW not 480K.)
With regard to FTA TV the NRL can get close to 2 million with its two games nationwide of FNF. The AFL can't do that except for the finals.
Here is last week's Pay TV ratings:
http://www.tvtonight.com.au/2007/04/ratings-archive.html
Note figures are only for metropolitan regions.
Total NRL 569K (4 games) v AFL 564K (5 games)
Some other AFL games that were shown on Pay TV (if any) would have rated under the 24K cutoff...
Here's a handy reference about the respective TV audiences of last year's GFs
BTW from memory Tasmania's AFL GF TV audience was about 130,000.
I think a lot depends on who plays in the GF determines which code gets the most TV viewers. Take Melbourne out of the NRL GF & Sydney out of the...
Around Easter time there is a two week non-rating period for some reason.
Just a reminder that the Austar ratings (rural & regional -pay TV) aren't included in the TVtonight figures.
It's a pity because it seems as though as many as 100,000 NRL viewers aren't counted each week.

Rugby League: Big crowds and visiting international open SP Cup
The Papua New Guinea Rugby League had a big start to it's semi professional national competition, the SP Cup.
Crowd numbers where up at all four games and...
Sorry - I didn't know the Richmond V Carlton game was the twilight game of the first round.
Anyway for consistency I will be posting the Pay TV numbers given on the TVT site. They are still not available.
Still no word on the pay TV ratings for the first twilight AFL game yet. The second twilight game played last Sunday achieved 212,000 according to the AFL
Here are the Regionals for FNF:
This only happens when one pack is clearly superior. The last time this happened as I can recall was during the Australian union side's tour of England. The Australian pack were being shunted around everywhere.
Less than 1% of the wins in top class union go against the feed. So you have to...

Here's something the LU site aboutthe NRL Round 2:
Tukati
I am using the figures from the TV Tonight site. Their figures for the first MNF game were 70,000 or so below the 316,000 which was widely reported a day or so after the game.
Some say they only have Fox numbers & don't have Austar figures included. I don't know.
However, for...
Here are the Round 1 AFL FTA figues:
(4 Games)
in Ks
709 Friday (Ch 7)
591 Sunday( " )
127 Adelaide ( " )
829 Saturday night (Ch 10)
716 Saturday arvo ( " )
That's 2,872,000 for FTA in the mainland capitals. They also had 99,000 watching the game in Tasmania on Friday night. That's...
Redcliffe is two small for an NRL side. It has population of about 60,000 & there is no more land left there. It is close to Brisbane & for all pracitical purposes it might as well be regarded as a suburb. There is no major corporate bodies in the area.
One team towns are the future.
In...
Would it be possible to start the game at 7.00 PM or 7.15PM?
The AFL game doesn't start till 8.30 PM or even later does it?
An NRL game could be could be done & dusted by then.
Hoops
Could you give me the reference for the populations in the respective TV areas. I can't find it.
There were also some Pay TV ratings' figures for the FNF NRL game:
They were:
http://www.tvtonight.com.au/
18 NRL BRONCOS V COWBOYS FOX Sports 3 43,716
.
.
.
60 NRL STORM V...
Don't forget the Pay TV ratings. These ratings are in addition to the FTA numbers:
The Regionals
in 000s
http://cs.agbnmr.com/Uploads/Australia/E2_20070311.pdf
QLD 242
NNSW210
SNSW 128
VIC 78
Total 659,000 - 4th for the week.
(1st in QLD & 2nd in NNSW.)
Matt
I have some doubts about the A-league GF figure you quoted-224,000 I think.
Here are the 2005 figures for pay TV:
Could you give an OzTam or AG Nielson reference for your figures?
BTW RL seems to be pretty popular in Brisbane:
Well yesterday it was announced that Townsville couldn't get enough backing to make a bid for an A-League licence.
http://www.news.com.au/couriermail/story/0,23739,21408335-5003412,00.html
So that region won't be playing in the A-League any time soon.
Any A-league on FTA TV yet?
What...
Are you sure about that?
When is the last time they got 200,000 for a H & A game?
& Beaussie you have erred in interpreting the ratings figures.
The 187,000 was for the replay of the Storm v West Tigers in Brisbane. It was shown on the 9.30pm to 11.30 pm time-slot. The live Broncos v...
