Have a go at Melbourne's figure. 257,000 even though it was a delayed 10:30pm (?) start.

The Hawthorn, were i was last night had the Origin Live via Imparja.

Not sure what imparja is, i assume it was a country Queensland or Australia feed.

IIRC, they didnt have the legends game on at all.

Game Two of the State of Origin Rugby League series was easily the number one program around the country (1.967 million). In Melbourne, the match peaked with 330,000 viewers, averaged 257,000 and dominated the last hour over Seven and Ten.

257k is higher than I expected, actually. And it won the last hour over Seven and Ten, which is very encouraging. I wonder if Nine will bother to show the dead rubber live down there?

915k in Sydney, which is 60k higher than Game I... plus the 77k at Telstra. Not bad.

725k in Brisbane - Its pretty unbelievable that such a massive amount of viewers would probably be considered 'unsurprising'.

The 900k+ in Sydney is truly massive considering the 77,000 that attended, because it seems they do not watch tv as much as their Melbourne counterparts.

I've noticed this trend for many shows, it seems Melbournians watch more tv then Sydneysiders.....when population is considered it seems even more apparent.

What was on Channel Seven at 9:30pm last night anyway?

I think you are right about the TV viewers in Syd v Melb...

I've wondered about this myself. Possible reasons;

- Higher penetration of Pay TV in Sydney
- More DVD sales and rentals in Syd v Melbourne...
- More people going out and doing stuff??

Am just guessing but there has got to be some explanations....

The Pay-Tv one could be a factor........i don't know the exact figures, i could be wrong, maybe Sydneysiders watch a wider range of shows compared to Melbourne.

In a surprising result, Channel 9 despite the boost from the metro figures for Origin 2 manged to lose the Ratings week to Channel 7 - 28.3% to 27.9%. So far this year the only week Channel 9 have won in the ratings has been the week that included the figures for Origin 1, so as you can tell they would have to be pretty disappointed that they couldn't pull off the ratings week win off the back of the impressive Origin 2 metro figures after doing so after Origin 1.

Its shows how far Channel 9 as a network has fallen, and shows that they really don't have people watching them outside Rugby League and a few shows that are left from before Eddie's run as CEO.

It isn't RL fault, it just shows even with a major ratings as the SOO was they couldn't win the week.

Imagine if Seven ever got the NRL rights, would never happen but it would probably condemn Nine to certain #2 status.

But that's not RL's problem or fault except for maybe the NRL Footy show (in Brisbane anyway).

When the season started 9 was getting 692,000 in FIVE markets with Kings of Comedy.

For the first FNF game they got over 1.2 million nationally (in 3 cities) at 7:30. This has since dropped off. Last friday it was 666,000 in two markets.

Certainly wasn't trying to make out that it was RL's fault, just pointing out that Channel 9 didn't win the Ratings week nationally off the back of the Origin ratings last week like they did after Origin 1 (which was their only win for the year so far), which was a surprise. RL didn't lose it for 9 and on the other hand the AFL didn't win it for 7, 7's better programming did with a bit of luck thrown in.

AFL being on Channel 7 isn't the reason why they have won all but 1 week this year in the ratings and nor has Channel 9 losing the AFL been the major reason in their downfall. It was bound to happen even if the AFL stayed on Channel 9, because Channel 9 under Eddie as the CEO ****ed up the programming, didn't bring in any rating winning shows from the US to match Seven and their News department was overtaken my Seven in the ratings to boot which has been the key this year.

I forecasted them to condemnation when they relinquished the AFL rights (as rob mentioned, the trend was forecoming - but the rights loss was the tippable event IMO). Many rebutted me saying it was Packer's last laugh, that he priced it too high, but I think Stokes is the one laughing actually.

They cannot afford to give up NRL matches, and I am amazed to learn theyve only won a single week this year.

Yet they've had great FNF and Sunday football ratings.

It will probably never happen because of the limited FTA games but have they ever (Ch.9) tried to go in with another FTA network to buy the NRL rights?
