I am against trading up to get a particular midfielder in the top 6 when they are all so similar in quality. Yes they may have different strengths/ weaknesses but they are all good.
We need to have enough picks to bring in a couple of KPFs , which is just as much of a gap in our list as mids...
Seems like we will take Armstrong at 10/11 if still there.
What do we think of him?
Great athlete with X factor. Great kick, can take a grab and good second efforts.
My concern he isn’t tall enough for a key forward and seems to get bodied out pretty easily.
He is only a kid though.
Looking at this as a bigger picture, I don’t understand the rationale in giving away picks to trade up to find a particular player. We have sold the farm for this draft hand.
Statistically what - 50% of first rounders end up being any good?
Everyone is saying this is a very even and deep draft...
I just can’t see the advantage in trading our picks apart from #24 for a first rounder next year.
Seems to me pick #6 is going to give us one of Smith, Smilie or Langford.
#10 and 11 will likely give us two of Lindsay, Travaglia , Berry or Shannahan . Reid and Armstrong may also be there.
Sounds...
Agree, from the highlights Gerryn appears to have everything . Great mark, can ruck and moves like a midfielder.
Appears to be a bit loose with disposal. But based on what I could see looks a tremendous prospect.
If we were to take Shannahan at 10/11 and Gerryn at 23/24 that would go a long way...
Agree completely.
Would have to be an extraordinary offer to see us trade away any of our first 5 picks really.
We need to load up now , particularly in a draft like this.
IMO there is an opportunity to trade #24 on the second night of the draft from clubs who will be lining up.
Assuming we keep all our first rounders and say trade our first pick on night two to the highest bidder, I reckon we should consider taking Tauru at 6.We are then a chance Smilie is still there at 10. If not still plenty of mid options at 10 and 11 eg Reid , Lindsay, Allan , Hotton together with...
Can we not trade away picks this year please?
The exception is our last pick which we can trade on night two for a first rounder.
Next year won’t be nearly as strong and we have the opportunity to nail it this year with such depth in the draft.
There’s a reason teams like North want to buy back...
Don’t like the idea of giving away first round picks in a draft which is so deep and even.
This is the opportunity to load up.
If we take Jagga at #1 we are very likely to have Lalor or Langford/ Smilie / Armstrong still available at #6.
Travaglia/Lindsay /Reid at #10 and 11.
Shanahan/Hannaford/...
Yes. Crazy to give up a first round pick so that in effect we are punting two first rounders on a player just because he may look like he may have a few Dusty like traits. Our recruiting people would need to be very very sure we have the new Dusty. I can’t believe we would take that risk in our...
Agree.
Low risk.
Captain material and ball magnet.
Imagine for once in living memory us regularly getting first use of the ball.
Think about who you would want for the future Cotchin or Martin?
With Jagga you are getting a Cotchin . With Lalor or FOS you are getting the potential for a a high...
Agree we are still going to have a strong hand but it is a dilemma.
When you think about what Bolton brings to the team in our position, not sure.
On the one hand will do some spectacular things during the year to give supporters something to cheer about in what is going to be a difficult...
With #1 and 6 we are going to get two terrific midfielders.Don’t forget Draper another candidate in that early part of the draft.
I think add Hotton or Travaglia at #10.
One question is then finding. KPF.
Unfortunately Shanahan and Armstrong probably gone by our next picks.
I would like to find a way to find a spot for for Hotton.
Showed more than enough before ACL - fast ,great kick, good overhead and terrific decision maker.
Will be a dilemma if we have Berry and Hotton available in the second half of the first round.
There’s no way Sydney pass on him with their...
Interested to know why Trainor has apparently plummeted down the rankings.
Not long ago people were thinking North were a certain to take him at #2. - connections to the club etc.
If he does slip why wouldn’t we take him as a late 1st assuming we bring in the mids we are after?
Living in Sydney I can tell you that will be a devastating loss for GWS.They have a tiny support base that improves a bit depending on results.
Going into defensive mode during the third quarter was crazy.
There will be some very frustrated players who must have been thinking this was finally...
I don’t begrudge him wanting to finish his career having a holiday on the Gold Coast.
Gave us some amazing moments.
I can’t see a big game player like him firing up in front of disinterested crowds for a soulless team like that.
Very disappointed that he couldn’t have paid more respect to our...
So we trade trade Bolton, Baker and Rioli and get get 5 first rounders back in addition to pick 1 .
In all seriousness what do we do with the remaining 8 picks?
We do need a reset. But we have already lost so much experience with the loss of Cotchin , Jack etc.
We need to be careful with the transition because we could become complete basket case for years.
We don’t have the luxury that expansion clubs have with few supporters and no tradition. Our...
Agree we need to be patient.
Catastrophic injury toll made us uncompetitive after only a few rounds.
Looking at top team Swans today . A couple of injuries and they immediately look ordinary.
But my concern is there seems to be no evidence of a game plan and if there is a game plan , players...
Would be great to see a Tigers junior in Smith get drafted by us.
Terrific player.
But Draper looks a cut above.
But also no guarantee we get pick one.
Two winnable games before the end of the year against North and Suns.
To tank or not to tank?
I appreciate the important draft capital we get in a rebuild from trading Rioli, but given his family connection and mentoring role , doesn’t that mean we also likely lose MRJ? Not sure of his contractual situation but I thought Maurice made huge progress this year until his injury.
Like too many of our players - struggling to get their bodies right. I’m his case, for a number of years he has struggled with injury. At the moment a back injury. No doubt his age makes each injury harder to recover. Must have an impact on his motivation after so many set backs for someone who...
Agree there don’t seem to be any absolute standouts based on the published videos.
Not sure though we should rely on video of a game or two.
Recruiters will have been looking over a much longer term.
But if it is genuinely an even top 10- 15, I reckon we should split our top pick.
If we get a second ist rounder do we consider Hotton?
Fantastic player but did his ACL.
If not injured would be top 5. But because he isn’t playing will almost certainly slip.
But do we select another player who may be vulnerable to injury?
Not sure if I could deal with it if we found ourselves...
Yes agree the focus should be on mids.
But we are out marked in every game.
We should be doing all we can do to get another first rounder and taking two mids and then a Kpf eg one of the Whitlocks.
I would prefer to keep Baker.
Leadership and inspirational acts are priceless as we make our way through a difficult phase.
Bolton is a great player in a winning team.
Given Bolton is contracted for 5 years and a match winner on his day, trade can’t be for less than top 10 and future pick with...
