Started off as a kid supporting Souths.
Now live in Bassendean so switched to the Black Ducks 20 years ago - manage to get to most home games and have 2 of my kids that come along as well.
Not much love on the forum this year for the Black Ducks.
Crowds have been pretty disappointing - not sure if it's because all games are being live streamed, lack of marketing or an ageing supporter base finding it harder to get to games.
Budgets hard to come by for 50% of games (Rose Garden...
Was lucky the crowd was well down on the 5,000 talked about during the week. Half an hour before bouncedown and no budgets available. 10 minutes into first quarter & can bar has run out of Great Northern (was later restocked).
No WA AFL based sides playing and a very late effort by the WAFC to...
Was a poor crowd given the great weather and no WC or Freo game in competition.
Great "child minding" via the kids play zone.
You can also sign up your kids for a free junior membership which gives them a free sausage sizzle and drink plus a few other goodies - lets get the next generation of...
Terrible effort (if there was one) on Saturday.
Well done however to the club (off field) for their ANZAC commemoration and kids zone initiatives.
If you're a 6054 resident it's 2 for 1 entry this week as well a free pie & drink (just bring some ID) - full details on the club's Facebook page...
Enjoyable day on Saturday.
With good weather slightly disappointing crowd.
Kids loved the "kids zone" and each managed to get a footy to kick around.
No eftpos at the can bar and a bit messy with the new pricing for mid strength beers.
Well done Swans both on & off the ground.
Seemed like a very small crowd for a glorious weather day.
It was fun trying to work out who was who from the adjoining can bar!
I believe a certain Sandover Medallist may have been missing due to him getting married !
Troubles getting in the ground again - no change & took 15 minutes for them...
Great start to the season on field.
Off field things a bit different - first 2 games the "rose garden" gates has had no budgets or $5 notes well before bounce down. FFS not hard to work out it cost $15 to get in - you're going to need a few $5 for change.
First game can bar on hill ran out of...
Probably last game of the season given we need to win and then have games go our way in the last round (bye for us).
Weather should have blown over by bounce-down and with no Eagles or Dockers hopefully a big crowd turns up.
Minutes of the meeting are not yet up however the recommendation was:
"That Council lists $45,000 for consideration in the draft 2015/16 Capital Budget for the demolishing and replacement of the steel infrastructure for the scoreboard and clock within Steel Blue Oval Bassendean."
Not quite...
If the ToB hadn't spend god knows how much putting stupid significant tree signs everywhere perhaps they'd have some cash to do the repairs. Think they decided to spend all their reserves on the basis that they were going to merge with City of Bayswater (which all fell in a hole).
Love the...
Article in todays West hailing the "large" crowd on Saturday night.
Would be interesting to see how many people actually paid to get into the game.
I was offered free tickets by 3 different acquaintances and you could also get free tickets with the purchase of a meal at the major sponsors...
Vast majority of "promotion" has been around the C7 game.
Agree with Masai about trying to lure WCE/Freo members with discounted entry. The trots occasionally have $2 nights, $2 entry, $2 hotdogs etc - anything worth a try.
Weather forecast looks fine for Saturday afternoon - but wait only 1...
Well it's round 1 this week and once again the promotion (in my opinion) has been pathetic. Apart from some C7 driven(?) news about their televised game haven't seen much about the other games.
There is no AFL to compete with for the first 2 rounds and this would be a perfect time to get first...
Seems a contractor has destroyed the old entrance gate (Guildford end of ground) - got his forward & reverse gears mixed up and drove a cherry picker through it.

Skint Swans bank on transfer boost

Swan Districts are banking on a glut of player transfer fees and plan to use club buildings as a regular entertainment venue to shore up their tenuous financial position.
The...
My kids (9,7 & 2) love going to the WAFL and hopefully will continue under their own steam when older.
The people who run the game need to have a bit of a look at how they promote it as round 1 this year was a non-AFL round and WAFL should have been promoted on a free or $5 entry to get...
Got down to "christen" the new facilities on Saturday. Congratulations to all involved in getting this up and running.
Great to see 3000 odd people for a top of the table clash.
One thing that does need doing (and I've asked the club a few times - no response) is for the PA system to be hooked...
Apologies if this has been covered before - a search did not reveal an answer.
I will be over for a boys footy weekend soon and am in the process of booking tickets. Looking for advice on the best reserved seating available to the general public for both venues.
In particular are blocks...
Went to the Perth FC Family Day on Saturday @ Lathlain. There were over 4,000 people there - mainly junior footy players.
At half time they had a parade with all the kids marching round and singing their club songs. Prizes for the best represented junior club and best presentation. I remember my...
I am actually quite upbeat about the WAFL after many years of being in the wilderness.
I loathe the WCE for ruining what was a great WAFL comp.
I was a diehard South Freo supporter however with 2 small boys and living in Bassendean we have now "adopted" Swans as our team.
There are quite a few...
Quick break to order the pizza and clear the empties away.
I think the real killer is the incremental increase in ads after goals in the 3rd & 4th quarters!!
