List Mgmt. 2014 list discussion - drafts, free agents, trades, retirees, delistings and more

I would argue Motlop and Christensen are there after two solid years. Caddy, Guthrie and Murdoch are the next to come maybe by the end of 2014. Don't forget whilst Guthrie did play 18 games in 2012, he did get dropped for the final series on form.

List Mgmt. 2014 list discussion - drafts, free agents, trades, retirees, delistings and more

Couldn't disagree more. Blicavs hands are exceptional for a man of his size and experience, and his run and take on the contest is something you rarely see in a 195cm+ player. He seems to actually try and create with confidence, which so many ruckman do not do. I would compare him (and obviously...

List Mgmt. 2014 list discussion - drafts, free agents, trades, retirees, delistings and more

I think H Mac and Dawson are competing for the no. 1 ruck mantle at Geelong, and Vardy and Blicavs are fighting for no. 2 ruck/forward/utility. Although I wouldn't be too disappointed to see all 4 running around in a game (H Mac or Dawson would have to show some forward marking prowess).

List Mgmt. 2014 list discussion - drafts, free agents, trades, retirees, delistings and more

First 6? That's jumping the gun a bit on the back of a good second half of the year for a 21 year old. Overall he'll be a mainstay and the way he's performing he's going to be a jet, but at the moment, if he had 5 bad games in a row he should and would be dropped. Enright, for example, unless...

List Mgmt. 2014 list discussion - drafts, free agents, trades, retirees, delistings and more

Blicavs is in our best 22 because he is better all round than West, Simpson and HMac were injured and Vardy can't ruck out a full game. Next year maybe someone will pass him but not at the moment.

List Mgmt. Trade: Geelong trades Paul Chapman to Essendon for National Draft 5th Round selection

Might have something to do with Hawkins' back issue? Pretty tough being a one-man band against decent opposition. At least Hawthorn have Gunston and Breust playing forward, with Roughhead when Franklin is out. Geelong seems to just have goal kicking mids rather than true lead up forwards like...

List Mgmt. 2014 list discussion - drafts, free agents, trades, retirees, delistings and more

I do rate Guthrie and he should have every right to demand a spot in the back 6 every week on current form. If his form drops however, which chances are it will for some period within the next 2 years, I don't think Scotty would hesitate to give him a spell in the two's to get some form back and...

List Mgmt. 2014 list discussion - drafts, free agents, trades, retirees, delistings and more

This if for Round 1 2014. For instance if Christensen started 2014 poorly he would probably drop out. I just don't see players like Chapman, Bartel, Duncan, etc running around for weeks in the two's when fit. Guthrie and Caddy have both done this this year, and whilst they probably don't deserve...

List Mgmt. 2014 list discussion - drafts, free agents, trades, retirees, delistings and more

Not suggesting that, but he isn't a genuine backman. He is a flanker and pushes forward for the odd goal. I personally think we need him on the wing, so he doesn't have to be so accountable.

List Mgmt. 2014 list discussion - drafts, free agents, trades, retirees, delistings and more

I've always thought Stokes is overrated but he's definitely taking strides to change my mind. I think that to really cement a spot in our engine room he needs to kick more goals and just generally be more damaging. He does do some good things but I think Bundy beats him for pace and is generally...

List Mgmt. 2014 list discussion - drafts, free agents, trades, retirees, delistings and more

The way I like to think about next year is this. Each team has genuine backs, forwards and ruckmen (and not necessarily 6 backs and forwards and 1 or 2 ruckmen in a game). Our team has non-negotiables, which, regardless of form (to an extent) should never be dropped. I think we have 13 of these...

List Mgmt. 2014 list discussion - drafts, free agents, trades, retirees, delistings and more

There is generally a lot of overreaction in this thread. We were 5 points off a Grand Final. It's farcical to say on one hand "we would have won the Prelim with Chappy" and on the other hand say "get him out of the club". Enright the same - he's an All Australian this year for heavens sake...

Preview AFL 1st Preliminary Final - Hawthorn v Geelong, MCG, 7:50PM Friday 20 September

But it isn't pace with the ball that's the issue, it's (1) defensive run and (2) running to space and advantage (i.e. leading) when you're in attack without the ball. What is of paramount importance defensively is that second, third, fourth effort to tackle and put under pressure, that sprint of...

But I don't want to wait and see. I want the game to start now, or failing that I want work to heck right off, sink beers and watch the 2007, 2009 and 2011 grand final back to back.

Preview AFL 1st Preliminary Final - Hawthorn v Geelong, MCG, 7:50PM Friday 20 September

With the week off, I'm sorry to say, but I think this is dreaming. We can't run them off their feet - they beat us with pace and endurance, we beat them with muscle. We need to be so defensively minded tonight, run both ways and hit them really really really hard (below the shoulder ;) ).

Strategy Who gets Hodge in a final against Hawthorn?

Would've liked T Hunt v Mitchell to play a really really negating role. Kelly doesn't have the pace or the agility to go both ways to stay with him. I think people underestimate Mitchell's importance - sure tag Isaac Smith bc he gets the 15 touches and 3 goals, but cut the source of the great...

Preview AFL 1st Preliminary Final - Hawthorn v Geelong, MCG, 7:50PM Friday 20 September

I'm more optimistic today than I was earlier this week for a few reasons: 1. Yes, Enright and Chapman are out but people quickly forget that this is a team game, and great teams like Sydney, Geelong and Port Adelaide, often beat great teams of individuals like Collingwood and Hawthorn. 2. I...

Preview AFL 1st Preliminary Final - Hawthorn v Geelong, MCG, 7:50PM Friday 20 September

What are people's thoughts of putting Bartel as deep full forward and playing a forward tag role on Hodge? Play Hawkins and Bartel deep, Pods can roam up the ground, and clear everyone else out. What this does is: 1. takes Hodge out of the half-back line and makes him play more accountable footy...

MRP / Trib. AFL 2nd Semi Final findings - Paul Chapman accepts one-week ban for bump on Robbie Gray

It goes further than this simply. Fraser said the following in regard to Hodge's bump above - "You see him put his hand on Roughead's back – that's why his arm is by his side – and then he goes through and actually jumps to avoid the contact with Roughead, so whilst the high contact was made and...

    Opinion 2013 preseason best 22

Why is everyone so keen to drop West below Vardy all of a sudden. West did a stellar job shouldering the ruck all year and I would fall off my chair if geelong did a 180 and put him in the two's behind Vards. Vardy still needs half a year pinch-hitting in the ones and playing solid two's footy...

    Opinion 2013 preseason best 22

And that's the sad reality, the likes of Corey, J Hunt, Chapman have been servicemen of the club so we can't just drop them without a significant decrease in performance, and even then it's a hard thing to do. I thought JC's decline this year and decrease in pace was more obvious but maybe I'm...

    Opinion 2013 preseason best 22

I agree with the Hawkins and Pods switch, Vardy will slot in nicely playing the Pods role. Unfortunately I don't think we have anyone with enough pace who can play an accountable backline role. Enright, J Hunt, maybe Christensen need to play that role. People who want to put Varcoe and Motlop...

    Opinion 2013 preseason best 22

Too much depth is a good problem to have, but may be an issue in free-agency. IMO unfortunately I believe the likes of Stokes, T Hunt (if we don't look after him), D Simpson, etc may seek options elsewhere in the near future. Need to get at least 10-12 games out of depth players listed below to...

    Random de Grammar FRED

The most irritating, and super common when football players are being interviewed, is the use of 'you' and 'yourself'. "A great game by yourself wasn't it" - WRONG WRONG WRONG! Stop trying to sound more formal when it's incorrect. "A great game by you wasn't it" - CORRECT Yourself can only be...
