Yeah it's not ideal, but been plenty who've been successful, but there's always some resentment amongst supporters. I grew up playing for a merged club, many miles from here. They merged because the out of town club didn't have numbers and they were taking players from each other, and they were...
This is one of the best comments I've read on this site over many, many years.
Once kids are playing under 18s, the majority are at a senior school, so year 11/12. They want to play with their old mates/new mates, so all go to a club together. If a club can also offer their parents the feeling...
You do realise that Bullioh and Tallangatta merged previously back in the late 70s and became Tallangatta Valley Football Club.
Then Bullioh wanted their own club back and re-formed in 2001, and this caused a lot of strain on the Tallangatta club.
Neither club would want to merge, and...
I reckon players would rather drive to Bethanga to train than up to Corryong or Walwa during June and July. LOL
It's their best option I reckon, and facilities must be ok if they are allowed to play a game or two at Bethanga already. Always enjoyed playing at Bethanga, although the changerooms...
Talk on here is out of control!! edit - just saw another thread.....
You need a decent crowd-puller if getting an ex-AFL player, not Brock McLean.
Maryborough FC is stuffed and lucky to still be in the BFNL. Three clubs in a small town is far too many for sponsorship dollars, and obviously...
That's a poor reflection on the coach of the team and the club.
They've struggled for a long time, but are getting the dregs, and obviously have no money behind them, and money rules in country footy.
I live in Bendigo, and our urban area population is the same as Albury/Wodonga. We have...
Yep.... Their key ball-winners were North Melbourne players. Thing with the Roosters are they are very disciplined and well coached, but don't score much, strong defensively, but still need ball-winners to score enough to win games. I hope they do well, Fitzgerald is a good bloke.
Good point.
The points cap should be first and foremost in their minds. Money is killing country footy.
Supposedly looking after Bendigo and district leagues, but one key member is coaching a team in Ballarat, so will have little idea of what's going on around Bendigo during the season...
Ah, the Diggers did try to set up a facility like the Roosters but the Bendigo council killed that idea. They did go about it the wrong way early on and got clubs and the community offside.
The Gold was a totally different setup and idea and had the community at heart.
The Roosters will be...
Of course it means it should have continued. The lack of support from council, the BFNL and the HUB was pathetic. There are also another half a dozen players who've been picked up other VFL clubs at Essendon, Geelong, Port Melbourne and Werribee, and Downie had already been signed by Richmond's...
Filo will have spent plenty of cash in 2014. It's what he does. Did it to Kyneton, Castlemaine, Kangaroo Flat and Eaglehawk and sent them all near broke. He left a massive debt at Eaglehawk a few years back after the flags. He doesn't coach flags, he buys them. Now will send Mounts broke too...
There should be two tiers starting in 2015, and they should be allocated on final ladder positions at the end of the home and away season. If it were now it'd be set-up like:
Tier 1 - Box Hill (Hawthorn), Port Melbourne, Sandringham (St.Kilda), Williamstown, Footscray, Werribee (Nth Melb 1)...
You'd be surprised how much it costs to run a VFL club, and Bendigo have done very well on a shoestring budget. They've got much more support signed up for 2014 and 2015 already, and as the club improves, so will the off-field support. They will struggle against AFL aligned clubs, but so will...
You've probably read a lot of stuff about the club that is total crap.
The Gold don't need Bendigo Football League support, we play in the Victorian Football League. We have council support. That's what matters.
The amount of work the club has put in will start to pay off this year. It'll be...
Yeah, I thought Hudson may have played, or even Witts. I think our AFL side are better off playing Hudson than Witts tbh. Suckling and Couch are great pickups for the VFL side though, you're right there.
I think AFL clubs are only allowed to play 13-14 AFL listed players in their VFL side each...
Riccardo, North Ballarat were their own club before they started up in the VFL. They have bugger all support, and 95% of Ballarat don't support them.
Bendigo have picked up a few players from the NEAFL and WAFL this season.
Don't let facts stand in your way though mate.
How do you know how Bendigo are going? Jones has signed until the end of 2015. The list is much deeper in talent, and the top half much higher skilled than 2013. It's seen as a great pathway for guys from QLD and WA, as well as locals, so it'll work out fine.
Who did Collingwood have out? Nick Maxwell I suppose. He should have been there.....
I'm not saying Bendigo would have won, they wouldn't have. Collingwood should have won that game by more to be honest. They dominated, but the finishing was extremely poor. Fasolo was good, as were Kennedy and...
I barrack for Collingwood, and have done so since the last 70s (as far back as I can remember), BUT I am involved with Bendigo Gold.
Those bagging the Bendigo club need to pull their bloody heads in. Yes, the club is new, full of young kids and will take time, but how many games did Gold Coast...
