I agree with that but at this point in time in the development of international rugby league I think it is a positive as players who have have reached their used-by date with one of the big nations represents their REAL ountry.
January
Malta 82 bt Japan 0
Fiji 50 bt Cook Islands 12

Liban Espoir 20 bt Lebanon XIII 16
British Police 26 bt Jamaica 12

Well you needn't be. Like football and rugby union, players play who they feel comfortable and are eligible for. Sure there are players from some countries that play for countries in which they have 'heritage' but that is exactly the same as football and rah rah. Look at the Croatian football...
Looks like we're going to have to agree to disagree as I do see your point but I also see the positives that came out of it which is in my personality. The RLWC in 2000 was a springboard for many nations to begin playing serious rugby league and I don;t see what the RUWC has to do with anything...
I strongly disagree that it was a disaster. Yes, we lost money and there were blow-out scorelines but you have a look at the international season before the 2000 RLWC. It was pretty much non-existent. The blow-outs are common in any WC other then soccer. Remember Australia 145 Namibia 0? Yes, it...
They had and still do have some excellent players with massive potential. Robert Ilaysov was an example. He scored 4 tries against the Yanks and was asked to come and play with Canberra and Wests but he turned he turned it down to stay with Locamotiv.
Keep them coming Parra.
The French game is really picking up and I strongly believe that they will beat the Kiwis this weekend after a clean sweep of victories over the Kumuls.
I spoke with Ticketek at Gosford and they are more then shocked at the amount of tickets already sold not only here but to overseas customers. You would think that the rugby league bodies would be spreading this to promote the RLWC but obviously not.
The RLWC 2000 wasn't a debacle, it was just extremely poor timing for the some of the worst weather Britain and the majority fo Europe have ever seen. That tournament was a spring board for many nations to compete on a regular basis and I would say that the only nation to decline in this time...
Tickets go on sale tomorrow morning at 9am from all Ticketek outlets. I can't wait! I'm going to the matches at Central Coast Stadium, Energy Australia Stadium (Newcastle) and several other matches in Sydney including a semi final. Ticketek is expecting a large number of tickets to be purchased...
The upcoming RLIF meeting promises to be a firey one with Lebanon fuming that they didn't have their best players to choose from. They will lobby the RLIF to have more power and punish the clubs who fail to release their players for international matches.
No, Canterbury wouldn't allow him too if I remember correctly. Same situation with Robbie Farah with Wests not allowing him to play with them and it looks like it'll cost them a World Cup birth as they now have to play in the Repecharge Finals which includes the extremely strong Samoan side.
Final Score: Ireland 18 dr Lebanon 18
Ireland go through to the World Cup Finals on tries scored due to the last qualifier also being 18-18.
Lebanon now go to Repecharge Matches and will play the loser of Scotland/Wales match and could meet the strong Samoa in the final of the qualifiers...

A mixture of both with about half/half. The Lebanese RL went through a tough time with the war but is picking up again. Rugby league is quite strong in the nation however it is hard to keep any consistency with all the stuff happening in the nation.
I'm not too sure what you meant by that last comment but I've never been more excited for a sporting event in my life. The latest international can be found on rlwc08.com, rleague.com, leagueunlimited.com or www.rugbyleagueinternationalscores.com

Melbourne for me. They just keep producing and their players will continue to grow in confidence with a premiership under their belt and international apperances.
The competition ladder to look very similar except Penrith and possibly Canberra in the top 8.

Pleeease! 60 countries. I suppose you believe the rah rah crap about how 4 billion people watched the 2003 RWC!
