The more I think about it the more it makes sense that we should forget about Burgoyne and try to get Jolly. The retirement of Big Bob has unfortunately dramatically changed the landscape for the Hawks and we now desperately need a quality ruckman. Although it is a shame we have committed to...
I doubt we will be able to get any of the above ruckmen this year. The only possibility is if the Burgoyne deal falls through and we offer pick 9 + JK3 for Jolly.
Forget about Burgoyne and Gibson. We need a ready made Key Defender if we are to challenge for the flag in the next couple of years. Get us Goose Maguire, Professor Pelchen!!
There's no doubt we've had shocking luck with injuries to our ruckmen. I was hoping Bob would return to being our number 1 ruckman next year with support from Renouf, but unfortunately it looks like we'll need to rely on Taylor again. Am I the only one that remembers that we picked Renouf before...
Good luck to the big fella but you'd have to say it is unlikely that Max's knees will allow him to play AFL footy. A real tragedy given his talent and great character.
I think we all agree that our list currently has 2 glaring weaknesses: in the ruck and key defensive posts (specifically CHB). I can't see Gibson or Burgoyne helping us with either of those and it is unlikely we will be able to trade for a quaility ruckman because they are few and far between...
Lovett is a talented player but pick 9 is WAY too much for him. At best he would be worth a 2nd round pick. But I don't think we should recruit him as he has too much baggage.
Re: what happened in the 3rd quarter? no ruckman contested!!!
What annoyed me more yesterday was how once again we went overboard with handballing. We have two of the best key forwards in the game yet continually stuff around with handballs in defence or in the middle of the ground instead of...
Spot on, Finley!! I was so frustrated on Saturday night watching the Hawks players continually handpass to the guy standing next to them and chipping the ball around as it meant our forwards had no chance. If we get the ball into our forward 50 quickly, we will win more games than we lose. It's...
Muston Sally started off in a blaze of glory but has dropped off the last few weeks. I think it's time to give him a spell at Box Hill to regain some touch because he gave us nothing on the weekend.
I think everyone would agree that the Hawks need more key defenders, BlackHawk23. They've drafted The Cobbler and Lisle to address this issue but they will be a couple of years away so we'll just have to wait for them to improve and hope Gilham and Croad can get back on the park in the meantime...
I'm surprised Shiels is getting a game this week. I watched him play for Box Hill last week and he wasn't outstanding. Others, and in particular Josh Kennedy, were far better. Good luck to the kid though.
Very sad news for The Boiler. The kid can play but just hasn't been able to crack it for a regular game in front of Buddy, Roughy or Willo. I wish him all the best for his recovery.
Carl Peterson was drafted from WA at pick 60 by the Tigers in 2006. He was from a town about 3000 kms north of Perth. He is about 6 foot and is meant to be an amazing athlete. In one WAFL game he played in the ruck against Mark Seaby and jumped all over the top of him. From all reports he had...
Interesting that Ben Kennedy is training with us. A year or 2 ago I heard big wraps on the kid but he seems to have dropped off the radar this year. Anyone have any news on how he's been travelling?
Why would we want ROK? Yes, he is a very good player but the last thing we need is another forward. Our forward line is already choc full of talent. We need defenders and, to a lesser extent, midfielders. Forget about ROK, Professor Pelchen.
I don't think we should trade pick 16 for O'Keefe. Our forward line is already choc full of talent plus we have Thorpe and Dowler waiting in the wings. We need defenders and, to a lesser extent, hard-running midfielders. Forget about O'Keefe and focus on getting what we need, Professor Pelchen!!
The Hawks have tried playing Thorp as a key defender for Box Hill and it has never worked because he does not cover the ground that quickly and refuses to play tight on a man. He is a natural forward and will be a gun there.
I've watched Thorp play for Box Hill the last 2 weeks and he looks a cut above. He has not kicked many goals because he has been playing further down the ground but he will be ready for AFL footy very shortly.
I know this has been said before but why don't we try playing the Boyler as a key defender? I think it's obvious that Dowler and Thorp can only play as key forwards, so why don't we give the Boyler a go down back? I remember we initially drafted the Boyler as a key defender and Clarko played him...
I watched Whitecross play for Box Hill last week for the first time and he was quite impressive. I think he gathered something like 23 possessions in that game. He looks to be a hard runner and his kicking skills were quite good.
