    Football (Round Ball) Thread...

Th I couldn’t help notice that at the end of the game there was a very angry exchange between Mauk and Veart near the coaches bench. Is he fit enough to play 90 min or was Mauk being benched again. He certainly was not happy when he left the field. He engaged in some theatrics when he was...

    Bigman’s Training Reports

Apologies to everyone but despite my best intentions I could not find where the boys were training today. They were not at Elizabeth, Richmond or West Lakes I also drove to Unley for a no show there Maybe they were at Noarlunga. They are not making life easy so no reports this week. We will...

    Bigman’s Training Reports

Went down to Elizabeth today. Long drive but it’s a nice deck. It was a long session too - about two and a half hours. One big positive is that a few of the rehab lads - namely Thilthorpe, Rachele, Pedlar, Nankervis and Ryan - all did the bulk of the session and looked to be moving pretty...

    Bigman’s Training Reports

It looked low hamstring so could be back of the knee I suppose. I’m no doctor and the Advertiser may have asked the medical staff. Thankfully he came back on and was even doing agility drills late in the session so may have gotten lucky. Unfortunately sounds as though Cumming hurt his...

    Bigman’s Training Reports

Headed over to Richmond Oval, absolute peach of a day weather wise. Won’t lie, I’m starting to get a little concerned about how many injuries we are starting to pick up. It’s not dire straits just yet as most are little niggles but it’s definitely not ideal: Butts is still watching from the...

Opinion New AFC HQ (Part 2): Family picnics on hiatus

Work has commenced. Fences all up. Trees being felled and oval being dug up. Things are finally happening.

    Bigman’s Training Reports

Bad news guys. Went to AAMI today and the ground is being scarified. They must be training elsewhere probably Richmond. So no report today fellas you’ll have to rely on Ingram and Money. Should be able to get a report on Wednesday though.

Ripping session today despite the humidity, loved the intensity from the lads and they really showed some tricks today which was great to see. Also got pretty rough at times but thankfully the group left largely unscathed. Once again putting speed on the ball and not being too conservative...

    Bigman’s Training Reports

No worries. 1. I wouldn’t say last year’s standard was below par, at least not during the pre season. Has this year’s been more intense? Possibly, it does appear to have been a bit sharper with less downtime. I’m pretty sure the sessions have been at least 15 minutes shorter than usual yet the...

    Bigman’s Training Reports

Would love to say it’s all by memory but some things I have to jot down quick notes on, namely things like team lineups, time trial groups and winners etc. I want to get that stuff as accurate as possible so I’ll note them. Thankfully the lineups are now on the big electronic board near the car...

    Bigman’s Training Reports

Looks as though there was more to Pedlar leaving the track early. Hamstring tightness according to channel 7, footage didn’t look overly positive.

    Bigman’s Training Reports

I don’t think that’s the case, every time he’s listed as a midfielder so I think they’re going to give it a real go. He’s doing stoppage work with the mids at the end of the session. Whether it ultimately works out or not i guess we will see. If he can work on his acceleration it could work...

Should clarify it’s generally more of a body language thing than outright ripping into his teammates. It’s just something I’ve noticed occasionally. It’s not as big a deal as I may have made it sound like.

A slight concern I do have is that we are running a little low on talls at the moment. Thilthorpe was back to walking laps which is a concern and hopefully doesn’t spill into the new year. Strachan is in a moon boot so will be out of action for a while you’d think, while Butts was again a no...

    Bigman’s Training Reports

Ryan seems like a bit of a coaches kind of player - takes the game on but isn’t a one way street, has a good defensive mindset. Occasionally bites off more than he can chew which I don’t mind, also needs to keep building his body a bit but like Max he’s tough so won’t be an issue in time. Has...

    Training 2025 Pre-Season

Big fan of Sid but starred is a bit of an exaggeration. The goal was quality as was the tackle, also thought his anticipation was good - couple of times he cut the ball off when players opponents tried to move the ball, he’s very switched on. There were no true stoppages however and he was...

    Bigman’s Training Reports

To be honest I think Cumming is probably numero uno already. Not just because he’s training so well but also because he’s a proven performer in the role at AFL level and has a skill set we need badly. Hinge would likely be next in line. He’s a quality player although I was curious as to why he...

    Bigman’s Training Reports

Stickerman I agree that Bond would be well suited to the role given his tank and defensive intent. He got shown up by Merrett last year but hard to judge given his inexperience in the role and in general. So far it hasn’t been a thing and he looks to be considered a defender by the coaches...

    Bigman’s Training Reports

He’s been playing high half back thus far during training, a fair way away from deep defence. I can’t fault his approach to this point. Proof will be in the pudding of course but at this stage I’d be surprised if he’s not in the team round one.

    Bigman’s Training Reports

I did see Nank cop a decent hit but my view was a bit obscured and I couldn’t see who else was involved, so didn’t mention it. Thankfully Nank got up pretty quickly, he’s tougher than he looks. Wouldn’t be the first time Keane has gone a bit too hard at training though!

    Bigman’s Training Reports

Don’t think we see him as an inside mid, he does his best work with a bit of space to set the up the play and is a high level interceptor. Ground ball stoppage work isn’t really his go. There hasn’t been any midfield work for him other than some wing time.

One of the positives thus far this pre season has been (knock on wood) the consistency of numbers across each session. With Thilthorpe joining the main group for a fair chunk of today’s training, it means that only Hinge, Strachan and Butts are in the rehab group - and I’m pretty confident Hinge...

    Bigman’s Training Reports

Gut feel is he’s a forward given he seems more comfortable roaming the forward half of the ground and has great goal sense. Some of his midfield work has been ok but like I said I think he clams up in congestion and has less flair when chucked in there. I’ve no issue with us giving him some...
