I finished "The Day Of The Triffids" the other day. I don't normally go for sci-fi books, but I really enjoyed it. It probably helps that I'm playing Fallout New Vegas on ps3 at the moment, so I'm fairly into the post-apocalyptic thing at the moment.
I've just started reading "Pimp" by Iceberg...
Shantaram is probably my favourite novel of all time. Agree, it is very sad at that moment. I also found it really frustrating when he was stuck in the jail for all those months. It's such an epic read, I've been searching for a book like it ever since reading it but nothing has come close.
As...
I wasn't really into reading novels until I was around 20, and I read Shantaram. It's the story of a man who escapes from prison in Melbourne and spends 10 years living in India. The character goes from living in slums to working for the local mafia, and eventually going to fight in the Middle...
Just finished the Ben Cousins book, it was a much better read than I expected. He really laid it all out, gave plenty of extra details that weren't in the doco. It was good to read about his view of events, vs. what we were fed from the media.
I'm pretty heavily into true crime books...
Reading the Ben Cousins book at the moment. Pretty light reading, should be finished soon. After that, I might read "Curious & Curiouser" - the new Dr Karl Kruszelnicki book.
Just finished "Tokyo Vice" by Jake Adelstein.
Jake Adelstein is a Jewish-American journalist who spent 12 years working for the Yomiuri Shinbun newspaper in Japan as a crime reporter. Most of the book is to do with his investigations into the Yakuza (particularly Yamaguchi-gumi) and their...
Just finished "A Fine Balance" by Rohinton Mistry... wow, what a book.
After reading the whole thing, the title of the book really makes a lot of sense. You have a whole heap of pain and suffering, balanced out by some really happy moments. Once I got into the book, I felt as if the 4 main...

"A Fine Balance" by Rohinton Mistry. This book has some great characters in it, I'm really enjoying it so far. It's been a while since I've read a book that is hard to put down.
I've just started reading Intractable by Bernie Matthews. It's the story of the author's times inside the NSW prison system, particularly Katingal. Interesting so far, and a pretty easy read.
I read two books at a time... one at home and one at work, during breaks/downtime during heat/rain.
Just started a new book today at work - Banco, the sequel to Papillon, by Henri Charriere. Papillon was a fantastic read, and it seems this one is going to be mostly about organised crime in...
Just finished reading "Last Man Running", the story of a guy working as an informant inside the Bandidos on the east coast of Australia. It was okay, but it takes a bit of effort to get through parts of the book. Too much of the book is dedicated to the beauracracy of the various crime...
It's been 2 years, but I'm starting Shantaram for the third time. I cannot find another book as good as this, as much as I try to. I just love the way it's written, the way he describes everyday Bombay, it just takes me to another place for those 30 minutes where I sit down and read. My one goal...
I'm reading "The Hardest (Working) Man In Showbiz" - The autobiography of Ron Jeremy. It's pretty interesting, but it would be a bit boring for anyone with no interest in pr0n.
Depends on the weight. Ebay sellers tend to charge $3-4 to send an average paperback. I've never sent any myself though, and I have suspicions that the Ebay sellers charge more than it costs them to send a book (ie. $1.50 worth of stamps, a paper envelope and a bit of bubble wrap, I was charged $4)
Willing to part with for a fair swap...
"The Last Don" by Mario Puzo (author of The Godfather)
"Gangland Australia" - True crime, history of organised crime in Australia
"The Man Who Was M" - Biography of the guy who inspired the James Bond stories
Not really interested in selling, swaps only...
I don't mind Motley Crue though, so I wasn't gonna refuse to read it just cos they're a hair band.
Got any recommendations for some other good rock bios?
This is probably the best music related autobiography I've read. The honesty of the book is amazing, and he has lived one damn crazy life. I kinda felt like I actually knew the guy after reading the book, and it definately made me appreciate RHCP a lot more. I was pretty sad to hear about his...
So what is the book about? I read a review and it sounds as if it's a book about a mute kid and his dogs. It sounds kinda interesting but what actually happens in the book?
Re: The "What are you reading now" thread
I'm currently reading 'My Colombian Death" by Matthew Thompson.
About 1/3 through at the moment, it's a true story of a Sydney journalists travels through Colombia. Very interesting, so far.
Glad you liked them too :)
I think the movie is still coming out, it keeps getting delayed. Johnny Depp paid a fair sum for the rights so I think it will eventually come out. IMDb has the release date listed as 2011 now. When it was first announced it was meant to be 2007 then 2009, so it has...
