Went to Junction to watch woori as I figured upway game would be a walkover. Seems I was right.

Was a good hard game at Junction, lots of pressure around the ball, hard hits. Belgrave had it won, not sure how they lost it with 1 min to go were up by 2 goals.

For the rest of the game though, not sure what the deal is but Belgrave absolutely crucified by umpires up forward. Around the ground and stoppages was all pretty fair all day, but Tenent for worri getting free kicks all day long and Mitch Collins for Belgrave getting nothing for the exact same infringements, or even more obvious ones. Disgrace to watch, and upsetting a team can miss out because of it, should have been up by 6-7 goals realistically. If anyone watches the valley vision and pay special attention to the inside 50s for belgrave, no doubt you will agree.

The plus side to all that, hung around and spoke to some club players, and not 1 belgrave person blaming the umpiring at all, and I absolutely applaud the club as a whole for the way they conducted themselves on the day. Credit to Worri as well, did their best to keep themselves in the game at all times, never more than a couple of goals down and always finding something to lift when needed.

Double plus side, the food at junction absolutely sensational, although might be a bit biased after last weeks disgraceful performance, even having some dimmies that fell on the floor left over by half time would have been a better showing than Yea.

I think Walkover is a stretch I went to Healesville to watch the two best teams in the comp go at it. The standard was of high quality and both sides played an entertaining brand of footy. Congrats to Upwey on making the GF they deserve their spot in the biggest game of the year

Could have been closer but for Wandin's poor kicking for goal, Upwey would still have won because they certainly played the big ground very well, but certainly not a walkover.

A pleasure to see two fantastic full forwards, both lead and mark strongly, it just added something to the game.

Woori seem to be back on song, and will push Wandin all the way, but I think Wandin will come out on top in that game. 6 day turn around could be the differance on Grand Final day.

Congratulation's Barny on winning the League Best and Fairest. Great effort while carrying an injury most of the season.

Well done to Jase Ormsby also great effort.

Well done Barny. Plays the game in great spirit and is a tough little bugger. Also Congrats to Jason Ormsby on winning the Reserves B & F. Good night for the Burras. Very tough night for the full forwards. The tradition continues. I would of thought both Fowkes & Barclay would have deserved more votes

Just got a glimpse of the 'team of the year' I know they only go off games the radio is at, but surely hicken, Stevens, howarth and driessen can't be in there off one good game each for the year?? They should do It properly and look at results, and also the league best and fairest night Umpires should not have the right to vote at all!! It should go off what coaches have seen through the year. Gets way 2 biased otherwise

You haven't answered my question - do you realistically expect 2 coaches to sit down after a match (in the midst of their own match post mortem / querying injured players / packing up all the gear if an away match) and come to an agreement on best 3 players? Each year there's stories of players who have had disagreements with coaches - what if those players were best on ground but get shafted by the coach. Or players who are starting to make noises about match payment increases for the following year - a coach can stifle the players case if they cut the votes off.

I've said before that I don't think umpires are 100% ideal people to be doing votes but in the absence of them, can't think of anyone better to be honest.

Umpires giving the votes works. Most forwards and defenders get shafted these days with the pre-occupation with midfielders. Coaches are not the people to judge the MVP

Congrats to healsville smashing there way threw a division 2 home and away season to put them selfs straight back in where they were last year...
Wandin tomorrow by about 12 goals, but it's all irrelevant, Upwey next week by 15 goals.
anything can happen on that magic day in september beachman!!! woof woof!

Agree Hump. He continues to get them over the line when it counts. He has also been amongst their best the last 3 weeks. Gembrook was in great nick and the wind was not a factor. Also have to agree with Chieftan. The game was terribly over umpired. Hoping they don't get a gig next week.

Woori played super well drilled footy today and as a result got the reward. Bonuda and Williamson were outstanding.

As for the umpiring it was a disgrace. I wouldn't say it affected the result but ruined the spectacle. Most over umpired game I have seen in my 25 years of watching footy. One would hope they won't be at the helm for next weeks showcase otherwise heaven help us as a comp.

I was at todays game and last weeks game Upwey v Wandin and I felt that the umpiring in both games was over the top. Different guys officiated in both games and there was no biased toward any side, simply seemed that the umps were trying far too hard. Come September, we want to see the players going at it and free flowing play is the order of the day. Hopefully next weekend will see the umps put the whistle away a little?!

On a different note, I heard after todays game that Fowkes went into the game injured?! He certainly didn't look like the player I saw last weekend. Hardly lead and was very undisciplined giving away a 100m penalty (and goal), a number of frees (umpires were pouncing on everything) and being sent off for abuse.

Abuse towards umps, or abuse toward team for not getting paid?

Have never seen so many players not give a stuff after a loss like that, just happy their wallets are thicker I guess.

How predictable that post's like this would appear after a Wandin loss.

Finger you clearly have the blinders on, while anything could happen you can hardly say that Woori are going into this finals series in red hot form. Upwey made very light work of them yesterday and Wandin beat them by 10 goals last time they met.

J mac you make a good point about Emerald IMO I think both Monbulk and Emerald can make some trouble in the final 5 if they get in and Belgrave and Woori are both gettable for either side if they play good footy.

In relation to the Wandin V Woori game this week. I cannot see a team throwing a game to manipulate the final draw while top spot is still obtainable.

One thing I can tell you for sure is I'm sure there will be more twists to play out. A ripping season once again
That may well be true but there best 22 is as good as anyones and they are well drilled and play well in finals. Getting senior games into a few more kids is good management and will only improve the depth of there senior squad come finals time.

Well done The Finger.

Fowkes was well and truely beaten by Bonuda no excuse's now please.

As for the umpiring what do people expect between that and the tribunal it has been questionable to rubbish. In saying that the Second Divvy GF was very well umpired by Leigh and Patrick.

As a neutral observer, it was interesting to watch the umpiring, I thought it was pretty poor, the decision against Tim Williamson was mystifying, he kicked the ball while being tackled, yet paid against him, certainly no consistency between umpires, I could not believe that Ken Taylor was given a Prelim, just not up to it.

On a football note, Woori were well drilled and played as a team, some very good matchups, well done Ryano and match committee. Wandin just seemed to want to bomb the ball long, Woori wanted to look for a player, seemed to be the main differance

Well done Finger. Picked that Woori would be coming good at the right time of the year. Their defense is tough to score against, and i think keeps them in the game most weeks. Their attack is up and down, but their defensive pressue keeps them in it long enough for the offense to get going. As happens in most finals the best defensive teams get through. It seemed a matter of time that Wandin's free flowing attacking footy would be tested in a pressure final. I only thought it would be in the Grand Final. Not sure what to expect next week. I think Healesville will suit Woori's young legs, but I believe Upwey will probably be too strong across the board. Upwey by 6 goals for mine

Using your theory on best defensive side, it has to be Upwey to win, they have had considerably less points against by approx. 250 points for the season (around 14 points a game)

Should be a cracker, the 2 tigers at each other

Your a joke!!
Those boys were gutted after the game.

As for the umpires with a free kick count 50 - 27 in any game is outrageous espically in a final..
