If you didn't have any expectations then how is he not meeting them?

As a big, physical, frumpy kid he quite clearly didn't pass the eye test as someone that would play early as opposed to someone like Charlie Curnow who came in with the body but also the ability to run like the clappers from day dot.

I wasn't expecting to see him in the AFL any time before the bye this year
"Pick 6, Essendon"

"Selection 1552, the frumpy red head kid"

They say its cursed.

Firstly: Aaron is a good strong name
Secondly: how good were Transvision Vamp?
Thirdly: this kid will get there we just have to be patient
Forthly(fourthly?!?) ??: I have no idea what I should have for lunch?

This has been my day today.
they were great! I'm going to listen to them right now!

Hes potentially the key forward to tandem up with Joe Daniher.

Hes never going to be a midfielder or anywhere near that position. Hes grown too much and will continue to add size.

Id be very interested as to what we picked him as, a KPP or a hybrid 3rd tall/mobile mid type much like Goddard.

Knightmare's 2015 draft profile for Aaron Francis:

He has plenty of good stuff about him, his "question mark" was over the ability to play midfield (because he hadn't done much as a junior). His weakness wasn't listed as his fitness though, it was 'inconsistency'. I wonder if the inconsistency was caused by fitness though and just not picked up by KM. You might notice he's grown since then (quoted as 194 these days, I think).

Fitness and inconsistency often go hand in hand.

I didn't have the testing figures other than the overall top 10s, so didn't speculate, not that it surprises me.

Dodoro mentioned on Bomber Radio that he see's him as a Power Forward that has ability to rotate through midfield.

Ah yep, makes sense. Welcome to our humble home, thanks for popping in to clarify! Also much appreciation for your work, it's got to be one of the most comprehensive resources available for the draft.

In the pre-season there was a clear top 3 to win the rising star award this year - Jacob Hopper, Andrew McGrath and Aaron Francis. Hopper and Francis had shown some good form in the latter part of season 2016 suggesting they would be contenders for rising star whereas McGrath was seen as the standout in the draft. Unfortunately Francis got injured in an intraclub match which hampered his start to the season and he's struggled with fitness since. It looks like the club needs to now treat this as a development year, keep him in cotton wool when a potential injury rears and train/play when fit working on his endurance. Skills, reading the play and marking are not an issue - give him a clear pre-season and he's an automatic best 18 player in afl moving forward. Just needs his body to cope with the rigours of afl training.

He had a lot of niggles in his final junior year which hindered the development of his fitness base. Same again in his first and second preseason.

How about we let the poor prick have a full preseason before we judge him as a bust

I would also like to see him get out of his teens before we cut him.
