Safe to say this does not just happen to us.

Safe to say we have had one of the poorest runs over the past few years and could probably least afford it. It's understandable.

Did you raid the 'angry pills' jar?

Yes it's shit, but at least they picked it up before it got worse.....positive thoughts
It's accumulated fury.

Like the positive angle! :thumbsu:

Let's face it, it is shit news for Harry but honestly did anyone expect Harry to do anything more than work on his fitness base, skills and running patterns in 2016? The kid was what 5 days off another year in the TAC cup and 200cm to boot, if you look up "development year" in the dictionary you will see a picture of Harry staring back at you. As long as he can eat then his 2016 is still on track Imo.

And my afternoons watching the Northern Bullants? Does anyone think of that? Me? Does anyone think of me? My enjoyment?

Is Iaccobucci still playing? Surely that is enjoyment right there!?

Were people really expecting Harry to come in and start playing from round 1?

While I was a massive fan of his (and his brothers) before he was drafted, I was under no expectations that he would be playing in round 1 this year. This gives him another 8 weeks of fitness building on the zero-G running machine and lots of low-weight/high rep weight training exercises before he is due to come back. Lets see where he is in 8 weeks time and then make decisions about whether it's a disaster or not.

It does set his development back a bit though.

I stood near some clowns at Princes Park last week who were seriously saying that Harry should play Round 1 & be kept in the seniors all season.

Unsurprisingly these were some of the same clowns who attend Northern Blues games at Princes Park & put crap on virtually all the Carlton listed players in the VFL.

The UMC strikes again.

Exactly. Development sort of requires someone to play....

Not sure where anyone has suggested he should be in our seniors.

Exactly. I would have been very surprised had McKay played this year, but playing at VFL level for the majority of the year would have been perfect him.

See MSR's post... and I am quite certain that there are, hidden amongst us, people who would have wanted to see Harry play round 1 and every game after that and kick 151 goals this season* and win the Coleman.

* OK I made that bit up... but they would have wanted him to kick at least 40 goals.

He'll be fine, he's a young guy who has come out of under-age footy and has thrown himself into senior competition with some vim & vigour. The extra workload & pressure on a young body can have consequences at times, McKay has just succumbed to it now which is annoying but he'll be better for it long-term as a result.

Think about it, injuries like this are bound to happen, new boom player Jesse Hogan missed considerable time with the same injury and he has recovered fine.

And the hammer hits the nail on the head. Great post.

Pfffffft... us bigfooty posters are way too smart for that...

I really don't think this is as big of a deal as what it sounds like. Pretty much every young, tall player in their first few seasons at AFL level are susceptible to this kind of issue, the fact we've picked up on it while it's just a hot spot as opposed to a stress fracture is a huge plus too. Harry is likely still growing vertically and the increased load of an elite environment while that's happening makes him vulnerable to this kind of thing. He'll rest up for a few weeks to allow it to settle and he'll then spend the next few months working on his back and core strength and correcting the likely muscle imbalances he'll have.

Certainly don't think this should be seen as the first occurrence of a chronic problem for Harry, get him rested and get him healthy.
