Absolutely massive.
When he plays well, he makes such a difference to our side.
100%. He is so different to our other players. He can do things very few can. Really happy for him playing a huge game in a final.

I've always been a massive defender of Edwards. Makes me so ****ing happy to see him standing up like this.

So glad that in those early years we just kept playing him. He was small, and often got caught trying to do too much, but all those experiences mean he can now pull off basically whatever he wants to. He's the best handball on our team, easily one of the highest footy IQ's and some X-factor. He's already played 205 games as a 28 year old. He's gonna end up with 300-350 games and hopefully a flag or two. That will put him right up there in terms of all-time Tigers.

Been critical of him over the journey but geez he's X factor when he
Is on
Agreed. I reckon injuries robbed us of getting this more regularly. Right as he was hitting his straps a couple years ago he started to break down. The beauty of our team now is we have plenty of guys getting the footy and it frees others to play a role, whether that be Edwards' silk or Graham's tackling

Agree. Speaking with Francis Jackson some years ago, he was crowing the recruitment of Titch as one of his best picks. And while he hasn't really become elite, there was a time a few years ago when Edwards was in ripping form and regarded by many analysts as Richmond's most valuable player. He's one of those guys who sees the game unfold ahead of others.

He along with Houli and Ellis were names thrown around that haven't stood up in our previous finals and some posters here were making the call that those 3 shouldn't play because of that history.

All three showed that sort of thinking was off the mark, with Edwards the biggest responder. It was great to see.

1 Taylor Walker Adelaide 21 1 v GWS, Qualifying Final 1.43
2 Robbie Gray Port Adelaide 23 1 v West Coast, Elimination Final 1.30
3 Scott Pendlebury Collingwood 16 1 v Gold Coast, Round 17 1.25
4 Eddie Betts Adelaide 22 2 v GWS, Qualifying Final 1.23
5 Dustin Martin Richmond 23 4 v Geelong, Qualifying Final 1.09
6 Shane Edwards Richmond 18 1 v Geelong, Qualifying Final 1.06

His awareness and ability to read the play is sometimes too good. When he gave off that handball to Costanza poor old Georgy had idea how it got to him. Must have got a fright when he saw it and fumbled. It's like having Jim Krakouer with out his brother Phil

yep his team mates are often several steps behind

lol noticed this happen a fair bit. he'll nail a flat but low handball through 2 oppo players and the receiver will either drop it or it'll just hit them as they weren't even expecting it...

love watching him wait and figure out the best handball option. good example for some of the younger guys to not just get the ball and instantly throw it on the boot or handball to no one out of panic. when we open up teams down the corridor its almost always because of an edwards handball on half back

Fantastic game on Friday which was a relief . I was hoping sheds Cotch Griggs Houli and Brando could all finally lift in a final and they did it in style. I was very pleased for Sheds bc he deserves success as he's often been maligned and first looked at when we've failed . The fact Short Bolton Markov and Stengle are pushing hard for selection has raised the bar for all players.
This has been my major gripe for years at pro that players coast for 150 plus games as weve only batted to about 10 so there was no pressure on our fringe players as they were not competing with much for a spot. A strong vfl side makes a stronger afl side.
