I love the guy but fk me ... enough is enough. Coaches need to do what's right and stop protecting the "clubman" and select the best 22.

Hopefully we continue having practice matches during this COVID hub spell and he can be given every opportunity to play a lead role in the scratch matches but until such time his form demands selection then the coaches need to wake up to themselves.

It's not sudden. Was putrid last year. Not to standard the year before.
It's not nice to say and I am grateful for zaharakis sticking with the club through the tough times.

But your statement is 100% accurate. The decline has been obvious and he was very bad last year. Now his form is even worst, he is so far off the level. Maybe he'll get one more week to improve, that wouldn't surprise me. He shouldn't though.

Not here to Zaka bash as I have loved his work over the years. That said, I am wondering how he has managed to hold his spot in the side after a grand total of 22 touches across the last block of three games.

Also, has anyone picked up what his new role is?

21 per AFL tables and 13 of them in one of the 3 games (the one we lost). He’s gotta be just about done.

From facebook (I know, I know) where someone has quoted Rob Harding:

"looks like he’s more high HF, especially on the fat side of the ground.
In that position the main role is to push back defensively, pick up the oppo Wing and allow the Ess wing to roll back and support the defence. Very difficult role, tough to get a kick"

Maybe we are judging him harshly is this is his role?

I spent about twenty minutes rolling through his footage from all four games before seeing this. Round 1 he was playing the half-back/wing role that Raz has been playing since he came back from that quad, 17 touches (not bad for 15 min quarters, probably equivalent of low-mid 20s in a normal length game).

The last three games sounds like what you're quoting there. I would've described it as some sort of defensive HF role, I only saw him up the wing a couple of times but the StatsPro thing only shows footage of when he's in possession or laying a tackle or something (collecting a stat) so if he didn't get a stat on the wing then it won't show him on the wing.

I was kind of wondering if he was on the bench actually, there were almost entire quarters where there was no footage, but I don't remember him being injured. TOG wasn't that low though, he did 73% game time against Sydney and the others were about 80.

When the ball turns over, wouldn't it then just be a matter of knowing when to run forward off his man to provide a target in transition? I'm not getting how that makes it difficult to get a kick.
