I think Whateley has been pretty average in his Olympics coverage. Describing the 100m buildup with 'you wouldn't be surprised if Taylor Swift walked out here' was weird and a poor attempt at a pop culture reference. Technically his actual calls are pretty good but he's way off your McAvaney, Warren or Cometti as a complete caller.

Whately has been awful. He talks unnecessarily. He also just makes stuff up. Myself being a track and field officianardo, I pay very close attention when watching. Whately does, like all general broadcasters who aren't specialist track and field commentators, make stuff up. The number of times he has said, and I am paraphrasing here "Athlete X is making their move" or "Athlete X is still a chance", when Athlete X is 10m off the lead in second last place and proceeds to go backwards from there. He has disappointed me greatly with his commentating performance.

Yeah he's no good. He's having a crack and fair enough to him but I hate when colleagues carry on about what a great job he's doing.. spare me. He's not a natural.

As a track & field nut (which I am), I don't know how you can subject yourself to the Channel 9 coverage.

By the way, the global commentators on the official feed (Stan Sports) have made some errors, and sometimes it feels like I'm watching the NBC telecast. Quite American-centric. This team covers all the athletics meets.

nah,surely the fans dont buy into that charade/fluff ? i can see where the CFL,my bad i mean AFL, wants to fill the void theyve created with the bye b4 finals wkend n how theyd try n stuff everything thats anything into that void to remain relevant.

on a side note but not totally unrelated how do players whom signed lengthy 5-6-7 year contracts 2/3 yrs ago when it was a 22 game H&A season feel about the increase in H&A games ? diluting the $$$ per game they initially thought they were signing on for ....i know how id feel....'lambs to the slaughter' comes to mind,owned ? played ? crucified ?

Just got back from two weeks in Melbourne, listened to a fair bit of SEN especially in the middle of the night (old men get up for late night toilet breaks) and it was simply deplorable.

Dead-air for 10-12mins at a time, repeats of the repeat, at one stage I heard about 43mins of ads which drove me spare.

However, who was that numpty who came up with the strategy on how to fix the fixture to which Dwayne told him three times to send it into the AFL ??

FMD, why do they allow these window-lickers on-air ??

I am not trying to be nasty or condescending here but the vast majority of them are either on the spectrum or have some form of mental impairment, they should be screened before being allowed to speak.
