This raises one of my favourite pet topics - the "beer at pub test".

Who at SEN would you most enjoy sitting down and having a beer with at the pub.

Whateley would be closer to the bottom of the list for me. Garry Lyon absolutely dead-last. Pipe might be close to the top!
From the current crew, no-one.
From the past, Dr Turf.

Lyon has just been announced the new co-host of AFL 360 so it's hard to see him continuing as the SEN breakfast host due to the extra workload, and that wouldn't be a bad thing actually.

Listening this past week to the "B-Teams" of Edmund & Brereton and then Edmund & Mooney just reinforces my view that SEN need to have a complete review, rethink & revamp of its programming.

As I have said on a number of occassions, having one journo & one ex-sportperson in the breakfast slot works way way better than the Lyon/Watson combo ever has.

It may just be the novelty newness but I am rather stunned that even Brereton seems to work in this timeslot and pairing, something I would never have thought possible.

In fact having two people hosting each show adds chemistry & spontaniety plus shares the workload thus making the program more listenable & fresh, they should do it across the complete program grid.

The recipe for building a strong & vibrant sports radio station is :

  • bring in a lot of new & enthusiastic on-air blood
  • put some of the old and dreary on-air talent out to pasture
  • streamline the program grid (very simple to do)
  • boot off the repeating of programs late in the evening and overnight (it's goddam overkill)
  • keep the horse-racing shows on the Track station
  • move the U.S. sports & overnight U.K. soccer coverage to a dedicated seperate channel
  • give even time to all major sports instead of just AFL (this is happening more right now in the off-season which is good)
  • stop putting complete nuff-nuffs to air instead of encouraging them because their only talent is they can dial a phone number
  • have some hard-hitting content instead of usual back-slapping boys club stuff

One day I'll show you my proposed program grid .............. ;)

Brereton is the F team, he is awful.
Edmund and Mooney do a good job but I believe that Kornes and King are the best breakfast duo by far.
