That’s ambiguous. So basically “we are not sure so we’ll rest everyone who we think might of had an incident which may result in a concussion”. So therefore anyone who is in an incident is ruled out for 7 days? Have a spell. There could be absolutely nothing wrong “ohhh the vision looks bad its a 7 day break for you son”

As I said this rule can be manipulated imo can’t stand the rule myself . But like many things we seem to get the rough end of the pineapple. Don’t see too many players from the loved clubs losing many of their better players.

I have poor reception right now - can only see Jy has had 2 handballs, has he gone off with concussion again?

I was posting on social media he should be out for the season but I guess the selection panel don't listen to dudes on Instagram.

But seriously it's disgusting management from the club to rush him back for this

Is there something to maybe paying guys like Jy and Luke top dollar because that’s just how the cap needs to be spent, that they succumb to total complacent and turn to shit? Like why should they try harder - they’ve hit their contractual peak. I cannot see how Jy’s game gets any better from here

Jy's 2023 has been a stinker. Signed until 2029.....................is that a concern?

Yes.

Rawlings giving out long contracts like candy again.

Will end up just as bad as the McDonald one when the 500 midfielders we have drafted push him out of the middle and he can't play anywhere else effectively.

He simply wouldn't be a front line option in any of the top 4-5 midfields in the comp, given we have more midfield talent than anyone in the AFL, why would it be likely he would a starting option for us in 3-4 years?

A 6 year deal for a "key player" that's led us to two consecutive wooden spoons, 12 wins in 4 years, no AA squads in that time, no AA jersey's.

He's not on his pat malone there, but none of those got offered 6 year deals.

The only players remotely worth those deals at the moment at the club are LDU, Larkey and Sheezel.

That's it.

If we seriously wanted to shake up the list, he'd be on the trade table, but now that option is almost completely off the table, as no one else is taking on that contract for him. Fair effort for a contract to be a completely toxic 6 months into it's tenure.

Correct.

was on a hiding to nothing playing him.

I'd be fascinated to know how he came to be selected. I'd heard from someone close to the club that they were going to take a very cautious approach to his health, and at one point he was being considered to be rested for the remainder of the season. Obviously that didn't pan out. I wonder if it was Jy himself saying he wanted to play, or if it was Ratten, or someone else?

Either way, he looked like a shell of his normal self out there.

I would completely understand playing him if we were finals bound and he needed game time under his belt for that.

it would be interesting to know who made the call. He has to have been medically cleared but being in and out of the side leads to no form.

It would be of no surprise that he would want to be out there, he will want to be giving all he has to help us win. I do not doubt that. We need people off field to be setting players up for some sort of success not allowing them to feed themselves to the wolves.

Its becoming a coincidence among some players - once they sign a long contract they turn to s**t for a period of time.

And we are full of complacency anyways. Not a good mix.
jy aint shit, but definately not right at the moment, biggest quality players form slump since goldy went through his separation. absolutely no idea for the reasons but possibly head trauma related?

Was that the same guy that told you Noble wasn’t getting sacked?

Fraud.

Write off this year, don’t play him if he isn’t 100%, and start afresh as solo captain. He and LDU have barely been on the park together but form is temporary class is permanent and Jy will be back. No point risking him further unless he’s absolutely fine: if he is then play him in the games we have a chance to win, I.e Scum and Gold Coast.

I really dont care, I have disdain for what the game has become, the players want all this cash built on by the people who worked full time jobs and played the highest level in a much harder and brutal period of the game.

The AFL is WWE entertainment.

The “we can’t have concussions” or “duty of care” doesn’t cut the mustard in contact sport.

Should get Dana White to become the CEO of the AFL.

If the AFL want to remove the “contact” component out of the sport. They’ll quickly be second rate to the best non contact sport in soccer.

Players should sign waivers, have an insurance fund and be able to have their careers terminated based on their brain health if they are concerned about it.

This s**t is also a factor in destroying our game.
The proliferation of ‘duty of care’ into the sporting arena is frightening.

They bought their tickets, they know what they’re getting in to.

Except... for many players, they didn't.

Research into CTE and concussions is still quite an emerging field. Veterans like Jack Ziebell almost definitely would not have had any knowledge about it when they joined the AFL.

Obviously that's less true for the likes of Wardlaw and Sheezel, but they're joining a league that has publicly committed to protecting the head and making attempts to ensure the game is as safe as possible.
