Given that Yarran is still on our list for this season, and if he gets himself together, could we trade him to another club at the end of the year like Melbourne did with Mitch Clark to Geelong?

If a payout was negotiated doesn't that mean he has been paid out?
That's what Benny said, an amount to help him get his life back on track, and no where near his entire contracted pay.

We gave him a one time payout for his contract. If he plays afl next year which he won't how are we still paying him?

I think what he's getting at is that we paid him but he never played a game for us, so if he did go to another club, we'd have essentially paid for him to take a break from footy but got nothing in return, and another club would benefit from picking him up instead.

He won't play afl again

I remember reading that he would have recieved $900k for the remaining 2 years of his contract if he remained but settled for a 1 time payment of $100k as 'Help' to get his life in order in western australia.

I doubt he will make a decent return to AFL after 2 years away and even if he did at 27 years of age and 2 years out of afl wont ever be back or get to the levels expected. But we never know i suppose

This could actually be a blessing in disguise for the RFC, We now have 800k over 2 years surplus to what we had budgeted for, With Dusty out of contract and expected to attract big dollars we can now say Dust here is $4mil over 5 years $2mil upfront and $400k a year

Yarran leaving could mean Dusty staying

Who would recruit him with his ongoing issues, lets not forget he was ready and raring to go about a month ago, a day later he was gone, mental illness doesn't come and go at a time of your own choosing and no other club AFL is likely to risk him taking up a spot on their list even at minimum wage.

I feel for him especially when he is feeling good about himself, as it must be a pain in the arse knowing you have the talent to play the game at a top level but not the stability of mind required to stay committed to the cause and effort required.
