There's some rumours Duggo has tweaked his hamstring after this drop punt went 150m. He is on light duties at the moment and primed to return at full strength to dominate 2017 early on.

Duggan has returned to full training but has not been listed for game 1 or 2 of the JLT preseason matches, presumably to give him the full amount of time necessary to repair and recover from that hamstring tweak.

With a WAFL preseason match also scheduled for Saturday, he will either be listed to get in a small amount of minutes or held out to keep him in prime nick for whatever comes next.

Another Eagle ready to hit the track is Liam Duggan.

The burgeoning midfielder has been all but cleared to re-join the main training group this week after overcoming his niggling hamstring complaint.

“Liam Duggan is tracking really well,” Vozzo revealed.

“He is basically cleared for main training now, so it won’t be too long until we see him back, probably starting at East Perth. He’ll be available for some game minutes in the next week.”

Here comes the Dugg!

A sight for sore eyes, 'gun is moving freely on the training track at today's intraclub match. Next step, minutes in WCE or EP preseason game.

After a couple of slow starts, Duggan worked his way into the game nicely in Rounds 1 and 2 of the WAFL season, racking up 24 touches in each, along with 3 marks and a few tackles.

Duggan has been building nicely in the WAFL and has pulled up well from a possible shoulder injury last week to be the travelling emergency against the Tigers this week

Liam got the call up for his first game of 2017 and took a half to find his feet. Ran out the game well with a couple of strong pieces of play, finishing with 14 disposals @ 71%.

Tidy up the i50 kicks and we will be getting some score assists too.

Liam continued to find form through Round 5 with 18 touches @ 78% in a dissapointing loss to Hawthorn.

In a game where Liam's disposal looked it was improving, the stats would suggest otherwise in Round 6 against Fremantle. He had 15 touches @ 67%.

And a goal - an absolute beauty at that off the left boot around his body. A second was on the cards after a kick to the square, but Joshy Hill did it all himself although Liam continued to work, following up his kick to be in prime position for the handball receive. A gutsy effort after a nasty corkie that kept him out of Round 7, 'gun should be right for this week's game against the Dogs.

Liam came back into the side in Round 8 and performed nicely against the high intensity pressure outfit of the Bulldogs. He had a few nice highlights, including a goal off the pack. It is encouraging to see 'gun hit the scoreboard this early on in his career after a shaky start.

Here's a little write up of Liam from the WCE website along with a 6PR interview:

Let's take a squizz at the stats of Mr Consistency from Rounds 9 through 11, where WCE were beaten on all 3 occasions.

Not his best outing with an avg disposal efficiency courtesy of 7 turnovers

Round 11

I didn't get to watch this game but the stats suggest very little time on ball. I CP, more i50s, and a mark i50. Maybe playing HFF?

Liam produced what many called his best game of 2017 against the Cats. Let's take a look at the stats

18 D

13 K
5 H

4 SI
5 T
5 i50

He was moved to half back when Nelson got injured and seemed to thrive being called upon to do a job.

That move stuck for our loss to Melbourne where he played predominately off half back, with a 10 disposal first goal term. His full game stats are below:

19 D
74% eff
9 CP
11 K

His tackle numbers were down but contested possession was up. Having looked through the AFL photos for this game there's plenty of Liam putting on pressure and doing the little things. Far less of him with ball in hand.

Liam was also one of the "Five things we learned" after this game:

2. Adam Simpson may have found another defensive option in youngster Liam Duggan. The 20-year-old midfielder was moved south of the centre square to take Jackson Nelson’s spot and hardly looked out of place dashing off the half-back flanks. Duggan accumulated 19 disposals, nine contested possessions and five marks against the Demons. While he took a defence-first attitude to the contest, the 34-game campaigner also managed to push up the field and effect two inside 50 entries.

He also held a presser earlier this week with his thoughts on the game:

Shall we take a look at how Liam is progressing in his new role off a back flank?

LIAM DUGGAN (West Coast): Playing across half-back, the improving Eagle was excellent with his ball use. Had 31 disposals, 12 contested possessions and 11 intercept possessions in the derby win.

Some words from our spiritual Captain:
"Some of our young kids have progressed really well over the last couple of years, and this year especially," Shuey said.

"Liam Duggan had probably his best game for the club yesterday."

And the 5 things we learned:

"2. While the coach was chuffed with the influence of his senior players, he was also content with the work of some of the young guns, particularly in defence. Liam Duggan had 31 touches in his most influential game in senior football"

JK also mentioned that Liam thought he had the Rossco all sewn up in the rooms after the game, love a bit of arrogance in the young gun.
