I have never said, and don't believe the crap, that the AFL hates Carlton but I have, for a long time now, believed that the AFL has almost zero capability to plan for the rule changes it decides to implement.

There is no grey in this rule - vaccinated or medical exemption and you can play, otherwise you cant.

Not going to keep this going forever as I agree there is no grey in the rule and there shouldn't be.

I just think it lacks a final clause stating what will happen if a player is forced out of the game by the rule. I don't even care if the clause states "there will be no compensation for the affected club".

so you're complaining about nothing then as the results are the same....got ya.

Nah. AFL want to be able to massage the outcome. There's a reason grey areas are written into almost every rule or code they're involved with; they want discretion to ensure that any outcome suits them first.

Which is why, if we want to get something from this, our first call needed to be to Gill, to position him on how terrific a good news story it would be if Carlton had a resurgent 2022, and what a shame it would be if Carlton had a protracted messy legal case of restriction of trade between a player pushed out by these rules. Wouldn't it just be better for all involved if a) the AFL pays his salary for next season, outside the cap, and b) we can obtain a selection either from a state league or a compensation pick after our second (or at the end of the first round, if he's feeling generous) as a means to ensure that this is all forgotten about sooner rather than later?

Last time. Right about now our football manager and CEO are probably preparing some kind of submission to the AFL to gain some kind of compensation. I'm saying that this waste of time can be avoided by actually planning rule implementation. Simple as that.

And your last clause is why the AFL are a somewhat unprofessional makey uppey organisation.

How long will it be before someone claims through the legal system, that this is an unfair restriction of trade?

BTW, going back some time, I was one that couldn't see why we brought Jones into the club. It seemed a daft move at the time but turned out to be a legendary one. Well done Jonesy I just hope you don't finish up landlocked in Victoria for the rest of your days.

There is already a challenge to the vaccine mandate working its way through the courts. I'll spare everyone the painful detail beyond saying it's problematic. Either way there will be an outcome in the not to distance future and then we'll have certainty about the legality

He retired on his own. Same as any other retirement. He didn't have to retire. What rule needs to be introduced?

Tim Watson 'I don’t really respect his decision because there’s no underlying medical issues here'

First, no one really knows Liam's reasons as he chooses not to speak about it. That is his right and entitlement. Second, without getting conspiracy theory-ish, no one definitively knows what the long term impact of the vaccines might be - it's just believed that it is less problematic than the present. Third, how can you question a person's decision NOT to be jabbed after what happened at Essendon? Different circumstances, I know, but the commentary really gets my goat from Tim 'Essendon Cheerleader' Watson.

How ironic that Tim Watson does not respect Liam's right to make a choice and refuse a jab. If his footy club had some players with backbone who questioned the status quo, they would not have had the drugs crisis. I can't believe he made that comment. Whether you agree or disagree with the reasons, Liam is entitled to his choice. There is something to admire about his decision to not embrace the global view. People will disagree with that and that is fine. I'm not making an anti-vaccine stance and I believe in the need to get vaccinated. I also respect the right of others to not do it. Tim has no appreciation of irony and no introspection to realise the stupidity of his comments...

Tim just doesn’t have a problem with needles.

Regardless of my beliefs, I wish Jonesy well in retirement and say we make the best of a bad situation. Hes giving up far more than we as a club and supporters will lose so who are we to judge?

He's a grown man and understands the consequences. Like Rance retiring early, it doesn't matter to us, ultimately.

I'm just glad he did it now, giving us time to salvage something pre draft and over the off-season.

It is what it is. Bring on 2022.

Firstly, I want to thank Liam for all of his service for the club. A great player

Secondly, I hope this can be the end of the vaccine discussion. Liam has made a decision and accepted the consequences.

Thirdly, I hope people can avoid trying to use Liam as some sort of martyr OR villain. He's just a guy, like the rest of us.

Fourthly, this now makes our backline next year quite interesting.
