The ACL probably didn't help, but he definitely could have been a better player than he was.

Having said that he wont be the last extremely talented player that doesnt quite have the work ethic to be one of the greats.

Liked Dempsey when he was at his peak, wish him all the best, the only negative and maybe I am overreading it but he seems to have been left out of the comment about always being welcome back at the club, I'm hoping he is remaining a part of the Essendon family.

Thanks Demps. Don't think I'll ever forget the run out of defence against GC with the botched bounce back heel recovery. I watched that replay a lot.

One of those weird sportspersons.
Hard to put it into words. Golf for an example; Some are guns and find it very easy near all of the time. Some are average, who one day everything is crystal clear and easy, and the next have no clue, and struggle. And some are crap, and have no idea anytime and find everything difficult all of the time.

I'd put Dempsey in the second category. One day he hits up every target and the next every opposition target.
Still a very good player and great to watch when on song.

ACL didn't help, and I think he was in career best form before being absolutely polaxed in a game against Sydney in the wet about 4 years ago.

Thought he was a bit of a list clogger at the end but still don't feel great about it.

Definitely a good Essendon supporter through and through.

There were a lot of games this year where even newby parish racked up more stats than him. And then there are the previous seasons performances. Sure he might play a good game or two, but his not consistent at all. I'd rather traded him personally while he had currency. Oh well this year will tell as I don't think Worsfold will carry him on poor performance.

A bloody nice bloke that really could play footy.

This for me too. I met him a few times and was lovely bloke. I enjoyed his good footy in the year back from his knee. Him and Hibberd formed a formidible partnership when we were up and about.

Loved him circa 2011-13 in tandem with Hibbo when both were on top of their games....sermed to have his head right then too. His last 3 years however were a write off & this decision today was inevitable.

My impression as this season wore on was that he almost trying too hard, probably with another contract in his mind, and he seemed to tighten right up. Regardless of this, I think his time had come. All the best CD!
