I'm friends with a couple of players who were drafted in the same year as Hurley, and whilst I don't know him personally, a number of different people (players, parents and coaches) have often commented on how he's a terrific bloke, always seems to have his head screwed on, etc and this whole ordeal is a real shock and goes against everything that people have said about him so far. I've go no idea as to what actually happened, but sometimes decent people make some pretty big mistakes (particularly when alcohol is involved) and whilst I'm embarrassed for him and pissed off that one of our players has been involved in a situation like this, I think it'd be wise not to make too many assumptions and completely rip into the kid.
But you have to think the way of the journo's, why **** up a good story with the truth.

Per Section 9AJ of the Crimes Act, only if the intoxication was not self induced.
Yeah, obviously you would want that qualification so people are responsible for their actions when they drink. But it's still the same point, the law recognises that people lack a certain mental capacity when intoxicated.

Normal people do all sorts of uncharacteristic things when drunk, self-induced or not. Hope Hurley learns from this to know when to stop drinking. I love watching him play footy and I don't want him to make it hard for me to cheer for him because of incidents like this one.

I'm sick to death of drunken violence in this city, and I'm not going to defend anyone even if they play for the Essendon Football Club. If it was a serious assault he should be suspended from the club for a lengthy period and made to earn his place back in the side.

Carlton supporters backing up Fev over the Ireland incident are kidding themselves. Headlocks can be just as dangerous as hitting someone. All you have to do is see the incident with that young footballer not that long ago.

The fact that he is 19 shows that he is prob immature. That is not an excess for violence, but what it does mean is he still has a chance to reform himself. Let's hope he gets his wack and learns from it.

Those calling for sackings have got to be joking. Reform is the way to go. If he mucks up again, then you can talk sackings ect.

Dane Swan had a similar incident when he was younger, has learnt from it, and has now become a model citizen. The key thing is hammering home that it is unacceptable. Something which Carlton has really struggled with Fev.

Once a clown, twice a fool.

If its a serious assault, that choice (theoretically) should not be in the hands of his football club.

Unfortunately it just doesnt work like that always.... I know of 2 players personally who have have got the cheque book out...

No case to answer as complaint withdrawn both times...

It happens in real life everyday ......

It was b/c he was the Football captain & was at a much poorer, reputation wise, school than Ivanhoe Grammar.

Doesn't matter I know for a fact he was never a bad student at Viewbank. This thread is full of bitterness, no one likes to see a kid stuff up get off his back.

I have to LOL at this
sack him, disgraceful club ... insert any comment from essendon flog about fev here

Hey, it's not like he invaded the guys house armed with a machete or anything.....

In all seriousness, it sounds like he's ****ed up pretty badly, and will rightly cop whatever punishment is delt, but god some of you people are pathetic.

The enjoyment some of you seem to be taking from this shows a hell of alot about your own character.

Believe that if you want...

I'm not saying it's the cabbie's fault, however, I hardly believe that he just stood there and said "Can I please have my fare". I think it's odds on that the cabbie has at the very least touched him on the shoulder to get his attention.

Yeah it isn't as if the 19 year old who had been drinking for the last 8 hours would be irrational and reactive, it is more likely that the guy doing carrying out his daily job provoked a 190cm+ bloke into kicking the piss out of him by touching him on the shoulder.

Real conspiracy going on here, clearly this cabbie is framing Hurley and he actually threw his face into Michael's fist. Disgusting show from a sober bloke doing his job, why single out a young Australian boy just trying to eat Hungry Jacks at 5.30am.

Seeing the Essendon fans responses on bomberblitz really shows you what kind of an organisation they've got going there.
Blaming the cabbie, racist remarks, congratulating Hurley.
No wonder Lloyd wanted to get out.
If he is charged and found guilty the club will have no choice but to terminate his contract.
