The Great Scott Thornton...The GST. Always with that extra 10%.

Gilmore is fast becoming a sensational big bodied, quick midfielder. I never thought I would say this, but he could be something special.

Happy does seem to have the whole package, booming kick, killer speed and a good leap. He looks like the sky is the limit as long as his confidence is up and he eradicates silly errors.

To be honest, I saw him playing for South Freo in his period away from the team and I thought there was no way he could make it back into the side. Looked like half the player he looks right now.

I really do think players play 50% better when they are surrounded by players of good skill. I don't think players should be entirely judged on WAFL form.

It means we are f***ed. Longmuir and Bell would be on about $800,000 between them in the salary cap next year. That's a lot of money for a couple of blokes who look more and more likely not to be available for selection.

If Bell retires voluntarily doesn't he forfeit his final year's payment and we don't have to include it in the salary cap? That's how I always thought it worked.

No, Voss retired and he's still on Brisbane's list. Croad was on hawthorn's list in 2004 and 2005 while we paid close to half of his salary.

I think there is a loophole where you can mutually agree to terminate the contract but not 100%. Obviously Bell will want his money, my understanding is that we can employ him as a marketing manager, or a legal advisor, or something similar, and the $400,000 that we pay him for that won't be in the cap. Not positive, but I'm pretty sure that's how it works.

Mal Michael isn't being paid by Brisbane under the salary cap even though he was contracted for 2007, because he retired and agreed to an off field role. But he hasn't received the money and has threatened legal action, Brisbane's argument is that it's hard for Michael to fulfill his role with Brisbane while contracted and playing for Essendon.

If we lose him we will deserve every bit of flak we would get. The guy runs down the guts delivers then finds his man like a blood hound.

On another note, i'm glad Happy may have ducked a bullet. He is probably going to be someone who will be a back to the future player. When we had ruck/rovers he is about re invent the position. He is still a few years away hitting his peak but when he does i'll dig up all the posts that caned him.

Shutup! :D

Sad to see ya go, but:

McManus
Cook
Haddrill
Parker
Walker
Dunne
Webster (sad, but appears to be no room for him)
Campbell (Murphy is far better value and natural forward)
M Carr (inconsistent over the last 2 seasons)
Longmuir (if they can't get his knee right... which I doubt they will)
and sadly.... Bell will retire (Browne will be given 1 last chance to stay fit and healthy)

Scott Thornton is a gun, id be devo if we let him go.
i will put my hand up nad say i was possibly the biggest gilmore bagger of the lot, but i will sya that he has been good the last couple of weeks, id still rather see us have an extra ruck in and maybe gilmore pinch hitting on the wing, kicking the ball deep inside fifty with his left boot

Yea Gilmore has saved his Fremantle career with his last month of football. He has been getting better with every game he plays, consecutively that is.

Thornton is so under rated by a few posters and i'm not sure why? He is no chance to be traded. Required player IMO

You are delisting half the squad.. I think there would be space for Webster in there somehow.

scott thornton's speed off the half-back line is no doubt very underrated but his kicking can bring him undone
they are good points. Personally, I've got the feeling some Freo supporters were pinning the blame for the Kangas loss against him, but TBH, you only really had one noteworthy quarter, the last.

Thornton is no chance to be traded because i don't think anyone else would want him. He works good for us because we need his pace and ball carrying, but he does get regularly beaten in 1v1.

Gilmore still has question marks, he can get the ball no problems, i don't think anyone has ever said he isn't a ball magnet. The problem is he doesn't know what to do with it.. he makes bad decisions. He does however seem to like Harvey alot more than Cuddles, but we already knew that. Just goes to show that some players need the right coach for them to play at their best.

Antoni Grovers work in the back line has been inspiring this season due to the midfield failure at the dockers and the amount of ball coming in
I'm not sold on grover. He just doesn't really look like he has the polish to play a major KPP role.

You need a player to play Ruttens role

You don't need polish to play in the backline. Grover isn't there to play champange football, here is there to blanket the gorilla he gets put on, week in, week out. And so far this year he has done that admirably well.

Its 11 players... far from half the list and I think you'll find there will be more.

Cook, McManus, Parker, M Carr and Haddrill are all out of contract... they will not get extensions. Time to bring in young players

Longmuir still has (I think) a year to run on his contract, so whislt I think he should go... he wont

Dunn... has been on the list for 4 years and would be luck to have played 2 games.

Campbell... is not a footballer and will give you nothing, whereas Murphy is and will.

Webster... I like, but I think (after 3 knees) he is a little on the slow side and younger player would be able to do the same job.

How could u say adam campbell will be traded at the end of the year. He is an up and coming star who hasn't been given the chance to show what he's got to offer. remember when he kicked four goals earlier in the year?Although the rest of the players i agree with

IMO campbell doesnt have a footy brain, and yes he kicked four against hawthorn, but if i was to pick between him and murphy, id choose murphy every time. campbell just doesnt look like a footballer to me. and it isnt as if he is young either, i think he is 24 isnt he?

Delist/Retire:

McManus
Cook
Parker
Walker

Staying:

Campbell
Browne
Haddrill
Dunne
M.Carr
Webster

Any player could be traded, but most likely to be Murphy+first round for higher first round to pick up a Palmer or Masten.

Murphy is a FF, Campbell is a CHF IMO.

I think you find that (according to the Worst Australian a couple weeks back) Haddrill will be announcing his retirement at years end.

He hasn't played for 2 years so I don't know how he could be considered a required player!!!

Surprised to see Browne still there at seasons end TBH, too.

22 years old and back to BOG form in the WAFL. Despite injuries is just too good to get rid of. With other retirements and delistings there will be plenty of room for him on the list in 08.

According to the Worst. Says it all :p He was also named as an emergency the same week.

hmmm thats an idea. get rid of pav put campbell at chf..... great idea.... not

I didn't suggest that at all, though you never know. With Campbell being signed on for 2 more years, one would wonder if some people inside the club are concerned about Pavmeister leaving. Who knows! Still, I didn't suggest that.

Maybe Murphy has made it clear that he wants to return to Vic? Didn't German say that Harvey was going to ask every player over the next couple of weeks (that was 3 weeks ago) whether they wanted to be with the club in 08?

The selection of Riemers this week wreaks of Sheedy trying to shop him in front of us this week in an attempt to raise his value come trade week. Maybe we're doing the same with Murphy by playing him in the last 5 games?

why would he be shopping around someone in his first season?

i reckon its more to do with the fact reimers is a west aussie and he was involved in the solomon trade

(and the fact he is a good player :D)
