This is all I have to say.

Mike Green being nominated for the Norris is an absolute disgrace.

He was embarrassing today.

He was embarrassing all series.

Have a mate from Saskatoon who watched him play junior hockey there for the Blades, apparently he had 17 playoff games (3 series) for the club and finished up with a total of 0 goals and 3 assists. Hardly showed up then, similar stuff in the pros.

Mike Green after Game 4 "That's the type of efforts we need to win. When everyone plays like that -- they don't have much out there. Really, they don't."

Always nice when smugness gets defeated. Especially when Mr Smug is a key reason for them losing.

Weber, Seabrook or even Myers could have been the third nominee. It appears all they've done for the nominees is pick the top three point getting defencemen. Lazy.

Thought you might like that. I'm sure you won't be the only one to get a laugh out of it!

Moving on a tad, round two starts tomorrow, what have we got in the way of predictions, ladies and gents?

In the east, I'm leaning towards it being a battle of Pennsylvania to go on to the cup finals. In the west, I'm not quite as sure. Having said that, I tipped all four results in the west for the first round, and just the Pens' result in the east.

Eastern Conference
4. Pittsburgh vs. 8. Montreal: PIT in 6

I think the Penguins have more to offer in the playoffs than the Caps seemed to have. Yes, the Caps are a regular season powerhouse, but that means jack all if you can't perform when it counts. Under pressure, and where defence is required, the Caps weren't up to it, but most of the guys playing in the black and gold have been all the way at least once, and know what it takes. In terms of goaltending, the Pens are running into the hottest goalie in the league, but let's not forget that he was pulled in game three, and didn't play in game four. Pens just need to get in his head early.

I'm thinking this series will be close enough for the Habs to win a couple of games, but beyond that, I just don't know. Bring on the boo-birds in Montreal, and Sid will up his game as per usual. Secondary scoring has stepped up a bit from the regular season, which is always a good thing.

6. Boston vs. 7. Philadelphia: PHI in 7

I think this will be a beauty of a series. The two winter classic teams. Boston got through the man who could very well be the Vezina winner this year, whilst the Flyers got through a man who's won four of his own. The Flyers have some serious injury worries, with Gagne, Carter and Laperriere all out. Carter is done for another 5 weeks; Gagne 2 weeks, depending; Laperriere has a concussion and brain contusion and is done for the playoffs. Having said all that, I'll stick with the Flyers. Something about that team that tells you they'll just motor on.
-----------------
Just think, I'd say three out of four possible scenarios for the conference finals in the east would provide a brilliant series. You've got Pit vs Phi (state rivals, lots of hate here, and the Pens have won the last two); Pit vs Bos (the whole Cooke-Savard saga would provide a nice side (or front) story); Mtl vs Bos (rivals, again, lost of hate here). I don't think there's too much between Montreal and Philly...let's just hope it doesn't happen!

Western conference coming up...

Before I do my 2nd round predictions I'll have a look back at my 1st round predictions...

EAST
Washington v Montreal in 5
New Jersey v Philadelphia in 7
Buffalo v Boston in 4
Pittsburgh v Ottawa in 6

WEST
San Jose v Colorado in 5
Chicago v Nashville in 4
Vancouver v Los Angeles in 6
Phoenix v Detroit in 6
0/4 winners in the east lol. 4/4 in the west. Only one I got 100% was the Nucks over the Kings in 6.

As for 2nd round:

EAST
Pittsburgh v Montreal in 6
Boston v Philadelphia in 7

Halak will put up another massive fight against the Pens but I can't see the Habs hold them off like they did the Caps. As much as I dislike the Pens, they know what it takes to win the cup and if they can keep Crosby injury free he should carry them to a series win.

Contrasting stories at Boston and Phily. B's getting Savard back after a long lay off and Philly lose Carter, Gange and Laperriere. Going to be a great series with Rask being the difference.

WEST
San Jose v Detroit in 5
Chicago v Vancouver in 7

Detroit simply because it's the playoffs and San Jose is playing.:D

Nucks and the Hawks both have some serious offense but with the way the Sedins and Sammy are playing I'd give the edge to the Nucks. Predicting a lot of goals and the Hawks goaltending issues to be the cause of their down fall. Luongo to get it done better than Niemi.

East

4 Pittsburgh V 8 Montreal

Like everything else in the world of hockey, the road to the stanley cup finals in the east falls into Sid's lap and goes through pittsburgh. Like Marns said, the pens can play solid defense in long playoff series, it can wear opponents down, but Montreal has two good lines and some good D of their own.. (how god was Hal gill this series!!??). I always love watching Sid play in Montreal, so I cant wait for games 3 and 4. the key to this series again is the habs penalty kill, absolutley destroyed the best power play in the league in the quarters but the PP set up of the pens of Gonchar-Goligoski(or letang)-Malkin-Crosby and Guerin is as god as any, if Montreal can stop pittsburgh on the PP and make it a game of 5 on 5, their speedy players will have chances to get o the board. Halak is probably going to have to be better this series to stop the pens, Again i write the habs off, but I cant see them stopping Sid... or Gino.

Pens in 6

6 Boston V 7 Philadelphia

I didnt see this matchup coming. I had the Flyers missing the playoffs after leighton went down and I definately didnt think Boucher could carry them in a series against the highly fancied devils, but he was strong and well supported by a very strong and dangerous defense.

The Bruins are a low profile team, compared to previous playoff efforts, If Savard can come back and have an impact I think Boston can take advantage of Phillys injuries and RASK can carry them to the conference finals, wouldnt that be an effort for a team with the number 2 draft pick... and by the way if they do win, hello matt cooke.

Boston in 5

West

1 San Jose V 5 Detroit

Its time for Joe Thornton to become a hockey player, and to do that he needs to show up this series, we all know the wings stars are gonna be there, hot and ready to win on the road early, then put that nasty playoff pressure on the sharks they dont seem to like.

Detroit in a playoff series as an underdog....Very scary, but i think Howard can still be found out a bit in this series if the sharks top line emerges from the bushes and gets to him early. Heatleys health is important if he can skate hard and get Joe in the series early I like the sharks.

San Jose in 6

2 Chicago V 3 Vancouver

Bad blood is brewing in this series, both teams have made mention of the fact that they dont like each other.

Chicago's offense got hot late in the preds series and Nashville had no answer, if it happens in this series I can see a similair result occuring. But Vancouver is a well built team, they have solid scoring lines, good depth, good agitators, defensively responsible skaters, a reliable D and, when on song the worlds best goaltender.

This is a tough series to pick. It could come down to discipline, if one team can avoid the box more than the other, each teams potent power play could be the deciding factor..

toss of the coin, but ill back bobby lou

Penguins actually have an ordinary power play, finished 19th @ 17.2% this season.
Apart from Halak getting a trowel, mortar and bricks and constructing a brick wall between the pipes he, nor any other goalie, is going to improve on his last three games. He was superb in Game 1 as well.

hey guys just checked the fox sports guide and with the t20 world cup there doesnt seem to be any games on after game 1 red wings v sharks...

thanks...i dont really have a problem living in vancouver....but my mate at home wants to know where he can watch the bruins...

My predictions
East

1 Caps V 8 Habs - Caps 4-3. I think Halak will give Washington a fright
2 Devils V 7 Flyers - Devils 4-0. Flyers playoff goaltending fails again
3 Sabres V 6 Bruins - Sabres 4-3. Tough series to predict.
4 Penguins V 5 Sens - Pens 4-1. Pittsburgh too good.
West

1 Sharks V 8 Avs - Sharks 4-2. Avs running out of steam and surely Sharks won't choke again.
2 hawks V 7 Preds - Preds 4-2. Rinne has been on fire lately, Huet sucks and Niemi has been a bit shakey.
3 Canucks V 6 kings - Canucks 4-1. Luongo, Sedins too good.
4 Coyotes V 5 red wings - Red Wings 4-3. Red Wings always find a way to win.

EAST
1. Close. It turns out Halak gave Washington more than a fright!
2. Bad not even close. Who knew Boucher would be stellar and entire Devils team would not show up apart from Kovalchuk and Zubrus.
3. Kind of right, it was a tough series to predict. I thought Buffalo would have a better offensive than Boston but I didn't know Vanek was banged up.
4. Correct. Although Ottawa (and Leclaire) did suprise me.

WEST
1. Correct
2. This was my 'upset' pick that didn't work.
3. Correct
4. Right on the money.

2nd Round Predictions
EAST
4 Pittsburgh V 8 Montreal - Penguins 4-2 Too much talent in Pittsburgh and surely Halak can't do it two series in a row.
6 Boston V 7 Philadelphia - Flyers 4-3. Pronger has been beastly and they just need Boucher to give them a chance, I think the Flyers offensive firepower should be enough. The banged up Flyers have also got lots a rest.
WEST
1 San Jose V 5 Detroit - San Jose 4-3. I'm tempted to go Wings again but I think Sharks will be better and more relaxed after their 1st round win and the wings after a tough series with Phoenix will run out of gas.
2 Chicago V 3 Vancouver - Vancouver 4-0. Vancouver is the far superior team, blackhawks fans piss me off.

:thumbsu: i like it,, if they can keep playing the way they did against the kings in game 5-6 then its a chance, but i think the defence will probably let in too many goals to win the first 4 games!! ill go with 4-2

I was being slightly sarcastic about halak needing to be better than what he was, just highlighting how good he was and how tough the next challenge is, im aware he cant surpass last performance...well he could look for the goose eggs..

and second despite their regular season performance, the first half of the year, the pens PP was a bit everywhere, Gonchar and malkin missed games and it was a bit makeshift. I have no doubt that it has the potential to be the deadliest combination in the league when on song..I still think it will be the key to the series..

Western Conference

1. San Jose vs. 5. Detroit: SJ in 6

I think this series can go either way. Detroit won the season series 3-1, and always pose a threat in the post-season, but I'm thinking the Sharks might finally get their act together. "Little Joe" Pavelski has stepped up big time for them, with Clowe and the Gooch, but they will need the big three to help them out if they're a chance at beating the Wings. Top line has combined for a total of 1 goal, 9 assists, which is just not good enough. I mean, Doug Murray is outscoring all three.

2. Chicago vs. 3. Vancouver: CHI in 6

I think Chicago are the better team, but not by much. Something about the Canucks just doesn't convince me. I'd like to see Luongo steal a playoff game, pull a Halak. Niemi has two shutouts so far in the playoffs, and seems capable behind a potent Hawks team.

The Wings are starting to look on a roll, and its a big step up from the Avs to the playoff hardened Red Wings for San Jose.

Little bit of a hunch, but I can just see Niemi and the Hawks stoning the Nucks. And if LA can chase Bobby Lou, then I'd hate to see them face Kane, Toews, et. al.

Halak will push the Pens to 6, but Conn Smythe, I mean Crosby will prevail.

Tough series Boston/Philly, but I'm going Rask over Boucher.
