Country football players from across the state are preparing for the toughest competition yet at this year’s Landmark Country Championships thanks to a new six league A section and the inclusion of the Peel Football League for the first time in seven years.

Following strong performances at the 2002 and 2003 Landmark Country Championships – where they played as an invitational team – Peel are on the hunt for a title but according to West Australian Country Football League General Manager, Cameron Knapton they’ll have to play at
their peak to be in with a chance.

Fairly excited about this years carnival and will be supporting both South West and Peel football leagues this year. Being a squad member of the Peel Cavaliers colts in 06 (not playing any games due to season / career ending injury) my heart lies with them but being located down south now also has me wanting to go for the South West as well. Peel are back in the carnival this year after only competing in the annual South West vs Peel Cavs in a colts match for the past 6 - 7 years.

A grade I feel the South West will put last years winless performance behind them and take out this years title. As much as I like to see Peel FL do well I fell they will be fighting it out with the Lower South West league for relegation from A section to B section. LSWFL won the C grade in 08, and then went on the win B grade in 09 but I expect A grade to be a bit out of their league and will be relegated back to B grade for 2011.

In the Colts A grade you can not go past South West Football League to make it 8 or so titles in a row. They dominate the colts competition but this year I feel there will be a bit of a fight between them and the other leagues this year but the SWFL should be too strong.

B grade colts I am surpirsed to see the Peel Cavaliers in this division. They are not to be under estimated and have beaten the South West a couple of times from 2006 to 2010 in the annual contest between the 2 leagues in the colts division. I actually think the Cavaliers beat them this year in that annual game but not sure.

So in summary I predict South West to win both the Senior and the Colts divisions of the A section, Great Northern vs the Great Southern to fight it out in the B grade of the seniors and Peel Cavaliers to win the B section of the colts. I have no idea of the teams in the C section of the seniors or the colts.

Here is to a great carnival.:thumbsu::thumbsu:

From a South Fremantle point of view here's hoping UGS can get up again and maybe supply a few more recruits to the red and whites in the next couple of years:thumbsu:

So who won. How much does this give an indication of how good each league is, did all the good players in each comp front up for this carnival?

Upper Great Southern won Division 1. I think that makes about 5 out of the last 6 UGS have won. I'm happy because it's South Fremantle's zone and it's been a good breeding ground for us.

Very impressed with the PFL's efforts. I knew they were OK for a competition but to make it to the GF IN A GRADE is an awesome effort. It is my last comp I played in and being a squad member of the Peel Cavaliers colts in 06 (not in the championships though) I was cheering them on. Felt SWFL could have done better but failed again.

SWFL won A-grade colts and PFL dominated B_grade colts (kept the opposition scoreless in 2 games)

PEEL THUNDER TAKE A NOTE, DUMP ALL OF THOSE USELESS PLAYERS AND SELECT THE PEEL CAV's A-TEAM AND BLOOD IT WITH SOME OF THOSE CHAMPIONSHIP COLTS PLAYERS

Felt SWFL could have done better but failed again.
The South West beat Avon by 82 points in torrential rain and strong wind at Eftel on the Thursday. To lose by 15 points in even worse conditions to the eventual champions, UGSFL, is hardly failing.
Being locked out of the changerooms at half time by West Perth made it hard to for the trainers to administer some running repairs, not to mention the players to regroup and get warm with the temperature around the 11 degree mark.
In previous years formats, (and this years until 12.30pm Friday afternoon) the South West would have qualified for the Grand Final with the much healthier percentage of the 4 teams who won the one game during qualifying.

Football: Gutted SW coach speaks out

South West Football League Landmark coach Crandon Keddie has spoken out about a number of contributing factors that conspired against the region’s premier representative side at the annual football carnival.

To compound what was already a frustrating situation in the second game, the South West were locked out of their changerooms for the entire half-time break amid the icy ocean breeze and sheeting evening rain at Fremantle Oval, because WAFL club WestPerth were using the area ahead of their clash with South Fremantle.

I see where you are coming from bbay, should have posted this earlier but just read it in the SW Times today. West Perth tossers really:thumbsdown:

I agree West Perth Tossers. On the other hand rule changes were in place at least a month ago for fixtures, they were put in place so Peel could enter the A section and SW could stay in A section every other side new the rules, so it seems a bit rich that the side the rules were changed for didn't know them. Maybe a bit less whinging from SW and a bit more finding out who was to blame for not knowing.

Welcome to the forums Flathead

Care to elaborate more on these rules and in addition how its effected the situation which occured (being locked out of changerooms)

I was more talking about changes made to fixtures and how teams made the finals. Totally agree being locked out is a joke and shouldn't have happened. All teams Knew or should have known that Fridays games were semi finals.

Percentage only counted first day, then all teams were re ranked 1-6 again for Friday. 1 play 4, 2 play 3 and 5v6 in a relagation match, SW were ranked 1 after their big win so played the best loser, after that it is just the two winners from Friday into GF. They are the rules and they weren't changed on Friday arvo as some journo's and others down here suggest.

Looks as tho the W.A side had 3 losses in the first day of competition at the Aust Country Football Champs. They lost to the ACT, NSW and SA. Good to see a few of the SWFL boys doing well.
