2010 TAC Cup Squad

There are 2 separate (?) u/18's teams playing this season, and their playing schedules will clash at least 5 times, so there will be a lot of kids getting a chance ... there is no clarity though as to which team - RAMS or GWS - is the "priority" ... and it is just typical of the way this is all being thrown together.

No-one knows because they are making it up as they go along! ... and don't expect them to get the selections right ... there are too many self interests at stake (coaches, recruiters, coaches who are recruiters, etc!)

Anyway, a RAMS squad of 58 was announced, and they just had a weekend in Albury.

... as well, there are kids on scholarships who missed out on this list who are training 3 nights a week at Blacktown as well, and none of them seem to know if they will be getting a game.

Listen to Sheeds though and it all seems a bit futile for these boys anyway ... according to what he keeps feeding the media, he's going to build his list with players from South Africa, California, Ireland ... everywhere except western Sydney!:p

Interested to hear more about growing ranks of juniors in AFLfooty in Sydney. I'm sure Sheeds has said also that he intends to find 'gold nuggets' in Western Sydney. :footy:

I'm surprised baddock from the pioneers isn't in the squad from the couple of games I seen on dvd he looks ok fair boot on him & looks quick for a reasonable sized bloke, seen mobbs play a couple of games last year very busy looks a bit rushed but has a crack, harry goes ok to should be a good game may try to get out to it as not much else on

Hi, ive been waiting for your report on the pioneers very sad expecting much more. reading your posts and I agree baddock was a sleeper had a genuine go I think. Some of the other guys you rated were very poor the two ruckies were shit very soft and one likes to tunnel and dog his way off. The guys on contracts were sad and very disappointing FMD 18s reps how sad what was the coach thinking there was no strength in the guts or ability in the forwards. the dark kid in the backs looked busy because the team couldn't deliver and keep it he also made it look an effort to chase the ball. The team looked like a ex-soccer team chase chase chase with no work-rate in the first 5 minutes these guys looked stuffed how could they play a full game without engine. thats my report.

Sorry to disappoint been a bit busy

Haven't watched all but have seen a few game of each team mainly heat & pigeons at this stage

Thought webster was very good, as was lloyd, lewis busy but thought lloyd was better, bloke told me karafilis could play but didn't see it & gillingham had a crack, played well together considering they must of had very little training together, webster best by along way though

Bray was very good, guthrrie did a bit as did ryan, lemme was ok & mahoney ok in some small blokes who looked a little out of their depth seems that they had a fair turn over with a few of last years younger players not returning don't know what the story was either selection or disinterest from the kids most likely a bit of both, didn't think they w that much better in the game against pioneers, but managed to keep em scoreless more from pioneers lack of tall forwards & reliance on 5 or 6, looked a little better against the stars

liked schulz & ben reid in the rebels but team was just good all round, moved the footy well & played as a team, webster & crow got around a bit as did stevens, just much quicker upstairs then any other team looked well coached & they all had the required skills which was/is the issue with the sydney sides bottom 10 not up to it

Agree with some other post on here re pioneers with lewington getting a lot across backline & dimmery in the middle looked good , baddock i liked as mentioned before could do with stickin in the system for while i reckon, little bloke nance & costello looked like they had a crack costello maybe a little rushed, talls under performed in the 2 games I watched, t'dale did get a bit of it but didn't appear to do a lot with it young though so will be interestin to watch

The squad is from a lot of different areas with big number from western Sydney. I understand about 59 in squad. TAC Cup website has a preliminary squad but a few to be added and at least one to drop out.

Heat v Pigeons was not typical of Coffs. Lloyd generally did not have a good carnival but a good player. Webster was best for Heat followed by Lewis, White and Cooper.

Guthrie and Ryan (rucking) were Ok for Pigeons and Lemme did some good things in defence. Ryan is however out for a while with injury.

Good stuff s-bull t-convert & l-man tell it the way it is.
swans44 & Sirmagic have to be lounge sitters with zippers open the shit out of dense s-magic I been to GWS training sessions very low maintenance. They should name the team the Worms as sheeds rectum is full of them and the dump will be large when it happens. look out for the 20th at Blacktown when the emerges take on the tac wannabes. The Convert you are right about the gift possies its all shit.

Heard schulz tested very well at tac camp despite hamstring strain. Set new vertical leap record.

Even though the season is upon us the squad for this week's trial against RAMS should give a good indication of who will be the starters for gws this year.

Don't think there will be many surprise inclusions but maybe a few surprise omissions. The Riverina boys not coming up but ACT will be there plus I imagine the NT boys and at least one from Central Coast leaving probably 10 spots for Sydney boys.

It was a stinking hot day today, but the GWS squad defeated Sydney AFL by 11 points in a trial at Blacktown.
More details here.

Interesting to note;

Goals
Teams GWS: Gourlay, Dwyer, Webster(Essendon), Perry(Collingwood), Stubbs(Hawthorn), White
Best:
Team GWS: Newell(Brisbane), Webster(Essendon), Stevens, Bruce

... you have to wonder how many of these kids will end up at GWS, and how happy their clubs are that they are getting a leg up in this elite program at no cost!?

Aren't the majority of them scholarship kids?

I wonder how the gws future is with so many scholarship players that might go to other clubs playing. Playing TAC Cup will certainly make them more attractive to their clubs giving them an opportunity to play at a much higher level than available in Sydney. If the clubs do not pick them up then VFL for gws beckons. This will be interesting as in VFL a whole lot of slightly older players come into the question. Will they select for the future or select for 2011?

The potential pathway for these boys is better than anything else offerred in Sydney. Swans reserves also still exists as another opportunity.

How the boys react will be interesting as well when teams are selected. Some are getting shocks already as to the future. If they work hard then opportunities still exist but if they feel it is all over then it will be a shame.

Sydney footy is becoming very exciting and as predicted by Dale Holmes about 5 years ago anyone who wants to amke it will have to be in Sydney.

There are Riverina boys coming for the match against GWS this weekend.
The RAMS squad is

Whitford
Coward
Carracher
Martyn
Hutton
Alexander
Tinkler
Overs
Bernasconi
Trevillian
Milne
Brooks
Lewis
Langford
Townsend
May
Lynch
Guthrie
Cummins
Lloyd
Potter
Mura
ONeill
Kenny

Most of the other kids that those clubs will end up drafting are playing in the same comp. It'll give both those clubs plus GWS a chance to see how the NSW Scholarship players measure up against the top Victorian youngsters.

... and what if GWS played a game of football, and nobody knew about it?

That's just about what happened on Saturday when their TAC Cup side played another trial at Blacktown against a RAMS/invitation side ... but you would never know by looking at their website! ... they don't even have anything there about the trial the week before.

All this hoo haa about giving them an American identity, song and colours seems to be more important than promoting the local talent that just might get some interest in the team and the code in Western Sydney by 2012!

For those interested, GWS got home by an estimated 5 goals (again, you would never know, no scoreboard operating ... and no canteen! - 30 odd degrees and you had to go to "Shaggers Ridge" shops to buy a soft drink!)

In oppressive heat the contest was willing, and both sides showed glimpses of skill mixed in with some clangers.

The RAMS were virtually thrown together with a lot of first year u/18's called to fill in, they lacked structure, whilst GWS do look like they have been well coached.

The same players as last time seemed to go well for GWS, along with a couple of youngsters - Andersen from NT, and Moller in the ruck, both u/16's. Mind you, there was no other ruckman out there on the day, and whilst he is showing good improvement, I can't see them using the 74kg kid against any of the established TAC sides with much joy.

In conditions that made it difficult to shine, RAMS were well served by Langford who was very involved, Coward who is a class act, Lewis and Milne.

... but good luck finding anything that suggests that this event ever really took place!

WhiteandRed you are dead right. The big picture focus is good but the only team on the paddock at the moment is the TAC Cup squad. Players from local clubs, families and school mates will all be interested in what is happening but there is nowhere to find out. I hate to say it but they need Sporting Pulse or the like to get some information available. Game 1 is this weekend at Blacktown Olympic Park but who would know.

I suspect they might be trying to stay under the radar and sneak up on the first round opposition but the Knights had a good win over Calder Cannons who are perennial grand finalists. The boys will need some support from the grandstand. It may all be revealed tomorrow.

The TAC Cup website does not even list gws as a club in the competition which is a bit sad. The boys are busting themselves to have a crack and the coaches are doing the same. THe back room boys need to do it as well.

You are right Convert and others, this is dreadful. The lads are busting a gut in 30 degree heat, and friends and family can't even find out when the game is on. The GC17 site evolved/morphed into the Gold Coast Football Club putative site in 2009, and now its got a hairy chest.

Its time for the GWS site to be ended (its not advertising anyway), and the putative West Sydney Football Club site to be up and running. It could do this with or without a moniker/logo, but my gut feel on this (seeing that you've got 2010, 2011 to either bed it down or change it) is to open the site as the WS Wolves, colours black and orange. Wait a little while for reaction before having a club launch re putative playing strips H/A ala GC.

You've got to start somewhere!
